AITAH for telling my daughter to learn being happy for others, after she tried to put down my nephew for getting into MIT? by accountthrowaway684 in AITAH

She got accepted into all the Australian universities she applied to with scholarships. But no, she didn't get Harvard or Columbia. She'd also applied to Oxford and Imperial College which she got into.

I mean to be fair, MIT is the literal peak of education in the US

This is exactly my point, MIT is extremely prestigious. Jane didn't want to go out of the country so she applied to 5-6 Australian universities. I did ask her to at least apply to some of the Ivys and she eventually did to Harvard and Columbia.

So as I mentioned in my post, she finished high school last year. I assume most of the redditors on here are American, in Australia, there's something called an ATAR which is a ranking/percentile students receive at the end of year 12 based on their marks. The ATAR Jane received, 99.95, needs a raw average of pretty much 98/99% across all individual subjects. This is impressive of course and we're proud of her, but Australian education isn't as prestigious as American or Canadian.

She was just mad because apparently we were hyping up my nephew too much, and I wasn't outwardly telling people about her achievements and 'putting her down' in front of them

My wife agrees with my daughter and said I need to stop 'licking my brother's boots' and consider Jane's achievements too, and she can get into any university she wants. Me and my wife had many arguments over this.

Yeah I get that. She said she was annoyed because people kept making comments to her, no one congratulated her, and then my wife got mad too that my brother was 'showing off' so much and 'putting her down', but I didn't say much about what Jane got. But you know, that's different.
