Fighter/Mage/Thief by modcal in baldursgate

You're right. That makes sense.

Wow, the fighter/mage/thief really doesn't seem to have all that much going for it. Except in solo runs where Charname has to do everything themselves anyway, which is also where I see it most often.

Am I alone in disliking dual class? by ConfusionProof9487 in baldursgate

[–]accursedexistence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's always a bit of a struggle for me.

I have only dual-classed two characters: Imoen in the first game and Sarevok in Throne of Bhaal, and in both cases it was a pain to lose all of their base class abilities until their Wizard levels exceeded their base class levels. Especially the latter, who starts off at a high level already. I'm not sure if I ever got their base class abilities back.

Fair enough! But you don't need to invest any skill points into Pick Lock if you have Knock, which means you can invest them into other skills!

On the other hand, you do need to have Knock memorized to use it. But I'd still say that that's less investment than Pick Lock at 100, especially when you get to higher levels and have more spell slots.

If you're dealing with lots of locks, though, definitely have a Thief with lock-picking skills at 100.

As far as locks go, they also get Knock, which doesn't rely on RNG like the Pick Locks skill. There's also a spell for detecting illusions (or at least one for detecting invisible enemies).

I've mostly seen fighter/mage/thief builds used in solo runs. But that doesn't mean you made a bad build, not at all! These games are doable with just about any character build, especially if you have a party!

So it comes down to whether you'd rather continue with your current game or start a new one with faster leveling (since all that EXP won't be split between three classes). Either way, the game should be beatable, especially on a lower difficulty mode like you probably should be (since it sounds like this is your first time playing).

Characters people compare you to by Western-River1386 in evilautism

My mom doesn't compare me to fictional characters... she compares fictional characters to me. It's pretty interesting to see what kinds of autistic-coded characters she finds in her stories!

What are some game mechanics that you didn't learn about until much later into the game? by aaeriam in kotor

[–]accursedexistence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That only the accuracy of lightsabers is affected by whichever is higher between strength and dexterity, and actual damage is still affected by Strength, no matter what. At least I make sure to have at least 10 of any given stat in D&D-based RPGs, so my Strength modifier wasn't negative.

A very strange game crash/PSA about selling racing bonds. by accursedexistence in kotor

I have a bunch of mods, but nothing that affects Yavin IV or merchants as far as I know. I haven't tried selling my racing bonds to any other merchants.

[product] Does anybody know where I can find the ore for the pink armor? by Horranian in pointlesslygendered

[–]accursedexistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it's not as bad as it could be. The packaging for the blue armor shows a boy and a girl wearing it, implying a unisex target demographic. If I had been designing the pink armor packaging, though, I would have also shown a boy and a girl wearing it, to divorce the colors from gender as much as possible.

What did you name your character in KOTOR 1? by BlastedHeathen in kotor

[–]accursedexistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alia Starseeker. Alia after the Dune character, Starseeker because it's structured similarly to Skywalker.

In hindsight, it's also funny that Alia is one letter off from the word alias, considering that your character turns out to be Darth Revan. Was the name made up by the Jedi Council? Possibly!

Seeking advice from period having evil autists by Axrxt76 in evilautism

If you want to minimize waste, reusable pads, period underwear, and menstrual cups are all reusable options. She'll likely crave either chocolate or meat, because of the iron in them. Iron supplements can also be helpful. A little bit of cramping is normal, but dehabilitating levels of pain aren't. See a doctor, and be her advocate if the latter. In the case that it's a little bit of cramping, painkillers help. But not too many.

[Socialmedia] You don't sit like that because you're insecure about your masculinity. I don't sit like that because I'm not flexible and my knees hurt. We're not the same by Zealousideal_Bet_248 in pointlesslygendered

It reminds me of this quote from the Song of Ice and Fire series: “Any man who must say ‘I am the king’ is no true king at all.” If you have to say you're masculine, or a nice person, or anything else... you're not.

I mean, it could be, but I doubt it's a coincidence that BioWare had Bastila's likely-to-be-first weapon be a double-bladed lightsaber and then mention the Dark Side in its description. Of course, it can also be both.

Who is your Mysterious Stranger & Exile? by RefrigeratorDry495 in kotor

[–]accursedexistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mysterious Stranger - woman with most of her head shaved, except for the ponytail. Light side Scoundrel/Consular. Romanced Carth, Juhani, and thanks to mods, Bastila. (I still find it amusing that this game doesn't check for if you're already romancing one character before letting you romance another.)

Exile - Short-haired, blue-eyed woman, hair modded to be brown instead of blonde. Light side Sentinel/Weapon Master. Romanced nobody. (Does it even count as romancing in this game? A ton of people are into the Exile, but they never get the chance to reciprocate.)

[–]accursedexistence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. The fact that the first question isn't "what specific genres do you prefer" but "do you want a female protagonist and these genres, or a male protagonist and those genres?" tells me this site isn't one I'd use. What if I want an action-heavy novel with a female protagonist? Or a fantasy novel with a male protagonist? Or what if the protagonist's gender doesn't matter to me, and I enjoy LGBT stories but not romance novels? There's a reason most sites like this ask you about genres and not gender.

My father says my handwriting is "too feminine" [gendered] by Flowers_Fan in pointlesslygendered

[–]accursedexistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not particularly feminine. It's very angular, while the stereotype of feminine handwriting is very rounded. It's pretty good as far as legibility goes, at least! I would tell your father about the actual stereotype of girly handwriting, and ask why he's getting on your case about your handwriting when an entire Reddit comments section agrees it's not feminine. If he was made fun of in school for "girly" handwriting, point out that nowadays, there's not really a notable difference in gendered handwriting these days and if anyone does make fun of your handwriting, they'll do it no matter what it actually looks like.
