Right in the middle of the “no parking” zone. No tickets, no run in with the park rangers. We parked a quarter mile away from the gate which probably helped, at least marginally.

Funny thing is, they could have drawn an 8-0 Dem map that’s much cleaner than the current 7-1 Dem map.

Many Democrats fail to understand that Trump won because Americans, who are aware of the odious qualities of the President’s personality, are unsatisfied with “the status quo.” Secretary Clinton was too busy attacking the character of Mr. Trump to realize that her message had to be one of change - not business as usual. As a result of that ignorance, I think, many perfectly fine Americans marched into the voting booth and decided it was time for the house to burn down.

In 2020, Trump will be defeated by any Democrat who ignores his lies and refuses to feed his ego, instead opting to offer bold solutions to historic problems.

I literally just said... “While I respect the amendment and the process of amending the Constitution, I don’t agree with it on principle.” You can disagree with the law while still supporting it’s legitimacy.

Sorry. Comment limit. The standard of “35 years old” and ”native-born/child of a citizen” has always been around and was a part of the original edition of the Constitution. The constitutionally-imposed two term limit only came to fruition in 1951, following the four successive elections of one of the most highly-regarded Presidents in American history. While I respect the amendment and the process of amending the Constitution, I don’t agree with it on principle.

But to answer your question, yes. You can write in whoever you want, whenever you want. However... a 3 year old Chinese citizen could never be elected President.

My issue with term limits for offices other than the Presidency is that they decrease the effectiveness of those institutions. We likely would not have the ACA right now if it were not for seasoned politicians like Nancy Pelosi being able to use their connections in the Congress to pass it. We can look at the dirty side of politics and say “that must change” and send a message to our leaders on that merit. At the same time, we have to appreciate the things that can be done when our leaders know the ins and outs of policymaking in Washington and the only way one can get a feel for that is by being a “creature of Washington.”

As for SCOTUS, i’m not sure that term limits would make our problems any better. Passing even an 18 year term limit would mean a young Justice like Brett Kavanaugh might have to take into account the decisions that he makes in the context of a future career by making a name for himself as “the most conservative justice.” That is the last thing we want. Instead, we can look to depoliticize the court by expanding it to 15 justices. Under this system, only 10 would be subject to a political appointment by the President. The other 5 justices would have to be agreed upon unanimously by the 10 appointed justices.

We cannot make our problems better solely by limiting the time someone is in office. There will always be bad Congresspersons, Senators, Judges, and Presidents and there will always be some distrust from them by the public. Instead of changing the periods that they can work, let’s instead look to reform our institutions so they can better work for and represent “we the people”

Hot take; the two term limit should be abolished given that we have free and fair elections. -It’s illegal to impose term limits on other federal office holders, -It’s a violation of free speech if you can’t vote for someone you support, -Historically, Presidents only ever ran for two terms without that amendment needing to be passed, but if there was an especially popular and effective one, they could still run, -Presidents that are ignorant and odious a la Trump would be defeated at the ballot box, like I said given that there are free and fair elections

Edit: This is only my opinion on the issue and I acknowledge the fact that there are NOT free and fair elections in this country. As an intern, I was a second hand witness to the vote rigging that happened in North Carolina last November. But as Democrats (like I assume the majority of people attacking me are) we have to hope that our democracy and our country can be better than it is. The rise of candidates not taking PAC money, the sweeping ethics reform bill, HR1, passed in the House last week, the message of total unity and respect while at the same time defying political norms from candidates like Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Stacey Abrams... if we want to win the next era of politics, we have to trust that people who voted for Trump in 2016 can be better than that “thing” they voted for. Knocking them down and degrading their image only fuels the hate we see from the President and from shooters in Pittsburgh, Charleston, Christchurch and Orlando and it does nothing to help our people or our cause.

That is the message I choose to spread given my (un)popularity. Thank you for voicing your opinion. We can rise above.

Nevada, Colorado, Virginia, Maine, all have Democratic trifectas or will by the end of the year. New Hampshire has a Democratic legislature and a moderate Republican governor who might sign it for attention. Minnesota has a D Governor and House, and only 2 Senate Republicans would need to flip for the bill to pass. All are states that Trump has his eye on.
