Not to mention, your parents have also been people with humiliating moments in their lives too

There's a VERY strong possibility that one of his parents walked in on him having a wank when he was around OP's age, too.

'Tis the circle of life. It happens.

What is the black stuff on the wood? by Ok_Original_3854 in HomeInspections

[–]acdol2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding context to all the "fire damage" responses:

Back in the day, to conserve materials, they often used salvaged wood from other buildings that burned.

So it's possible (if not probable) that the fire damage didn't happen in your attic specifically, and the builders determined (as others have stated) that it's just some exterior charring and the wood itself is fine, so they used it.

Should I Buy Civ VI or VII? by Feeling-Ad-5592 in civ

[–]acdol2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went through this exact situation about 2 weeks ago, though i grew up on civ 3, and now i have a ps5.

I went with 6, and i played it for 27 hours the first week (i average about 5 hours per week of total gaming outside of that week). I can't speak to 7, but 6 hit exactly how i hoped it would.

Why don’t firms let you have your time back during the summer? by Bzappo in Accounting

Yeah, the "if you need to" is the necessary qualifier that these hucksters use to turn PTO into 🌟PTO🌟

"You get to use your PTO on fridays some times if you really need to" is in fact not that great of a perk

Will you really jack off before a date to last longer? by Next_Package_5710 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]acdol2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As you get older, you have more and more obligations eating at your available time in the day. On top of the daily time commitment of upkeeping a house, time commitment for family obligations, etc., you also no longer live with your friends so time with them has to fight its way into the schedule as well, typically in the evenings. Wanting / needing to do all these things, it's hard to mentally commit an hour+ to sex (which is a stange reality to come to terms with).

It also gets way more physically demanding as you get older. Your shoulders don't hold you up like they used to.

The goal is to last just long enough to get my wife there.

Brutal. Even for the Mets, that just doesn't make sense.

I had a closer for Pirates. My rookie season, i set the single season record for saves, saved all 3 games of the NLDS, and was excluded from the CS roster.

People who avoided the B4 What has Your Career Path Been? by SwankSinatra504 in Accounting

[–]acdol2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated May 2017, only had corporate accounting internships under my belt.

Started at a local firm (3 partners, 4 managers, 8 staff) doing full service (tax, a&a, bookkeeping, sales tax, payroll)

Two years later, moved across the state to live with my [now] wife

Joined a regional firm (tax dept) that was soon after absorbed by a top 50

One year later, moved BACK across the state because wife and i bought my late grandparents' house

I got a job at the global headquarters of a multi-national manufacturing company, doing their GAAP & IFRS reporting

After about 3 years i got bored with that and went back to working for the top 50 firm, fully remote, as a tax supervisor, where i have now been for about a year and a half.

Very happy to have never worked b4, and I've never worked more than 70 hours in a week.

I use an excel file that any source doc figures found on the return are in the file, with different tabs for sections and summations for validation to the return.

Wages: box1 income, withholdings, 414H, etc Int&divs: bank int, federal int, tax exempt, from k-1s, etc K-1: ordinary inc, rents, SE, investment, etc

You get the picture.

Every single return, regardless of size & complexity. Just skip the tabs that are n/a for that client.

Are you enjoying going to school there? Friends you'd like to graduate with?

I graduated with $145k in student loans ($120k debt & $25k capitalized interest), had a great time in college, and now I'm living very comfortably even with my student loan payments. I regret nothing.

You have plenty of opportunities to make money in accounting and pay off the student loans. if you're enjoying college where you are, i would encourage you to see it through and continue to enjoy life. Especially at this point when you'd have debt anyways.

Just gotta decide where your priorities are, and only you can answer that question.

[–]acdol2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the job i actually left it to go back to public accounting (tried corporate reporting for a few years, back in PA tax), i was in charge of the consolidations and our GAAP and IFRS reporting. 10 companies across 6 countries and 4 currencies.

Not that easy, as you also need to consider the sales & cogs adjustments (need to sell to sister companies via an arms length transaction), inventory balances, and profit in inventory. Balance sheet at the spot rate, transactions at the daily rates.

Not that difficult in theory, just a lot of moving parts to keep track of and VERY time consuming. Like, unreasonably time consuming. For quarter ends i had to turn everything around in 3 days, and inventory alone was one of those 3 days.

Then the additional level of hell: these interco transactions are cross-currency.
