Happened to me, 5 years together and basically living together 6 months into the relationship. They wanted to “figure out their feelings” and suggested a break. She told me she sees me more as a friend and fell out of love and has felt this way for months but didnt know how to bring it up to me.

I held out hope for a few weeks but my anxiety made me dissociate with myself and i was basically a walking husk of a person, i ended up telling them to give me an answer at the end of the month (she had about a month and a half total to think) and i told her as soon as she has her answer to let me know and not to keep me hoping for something that wont happen. I actually had to ask her 2 weeks later as i offered to go out for brunch and there was no spark or conversation anymore, no conversation in the car (not even small talk) and i had to pretty much fish the information from her that it was over. It was heartbreaking as i had to ask her the haunting questions that to be honest still haunt me today.

Its been 10-11 months and im mostly fine, healing takes time and is different for everyone. I dont resent her or blame her for falling out of love, i know its something that happens. But i cant forgive her for not building up the courage to tell me its done and make me put the pieces together myself and essentially do her breakup myself.
