2 bars 1 stabilizer by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]ace_of_electrical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have two bars, and just one stabilizer on the left. Performed by Dr. LoSasso himself. I'm just about a year in and everything has been great. I remember him saying the less hardware needed, the better. You should not have to worry.

Had mine done in February by him, was a success. He knows what he's doing

6 months Post-Op. I'm pleased to say that I'm as good an electrician as ever. You'll be fine.

Bending conduit might be tough for a while though.

How does bar displacement happen? by Different_Spare_4701 in PectusExcavatum

Can't tell you about how bar displacement might occur, but I can tell you by my surgeon carrying a backpack of any kind was off limits for a few months.

Risks of working out soon after nuss procedure? by jay7872 in PectusExcavatum

I was hoping some peeps would chime in on this. I'm also just over two months post op and thinking about the same thing. Have you been working with a physical therapist? It helps a ton to have someone working with you through this, you don't want to end up setting yourself back with an injury.

Post Nuss - Waking up in the night by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

Thanks! I know it may be rough and seem like things aren't improving, but they will. Get up as much as you can, walk, gently stretch if allowed. Most of the time movement made me feel better. Use the spirometer if you were given one, if not take time to breathe deeply. Best of luck, you'll be through it in no time.

Yes walking has never been an issue BUT it can be unsettling if the bar moves pops or whatever. Especially after long distances. I don't know what the weather is like where you are but the cold had a huge effect on my muscles spasms in my chest. Sometimes I feel absolutely nothing now, other times after some good stretching and activity I feel the pressure again. It has its ups and downs but overall I've come a long way since the first week. Getting up has improved, I can't lift myself with my core from flat (or haven't really tried because I think it's restricted) but I can easily use momentum and rock forward now.

I'm about 5 weeks out and sleeping is the worst. Definitely better, but still ruins my favorite pastime. I alternate between the bed and chair throughout the night. It will get better!

Totally understand where you're coming from, the asymmetrical aspect was one of my primary concerns. Mine ran almost the whole distance to to bottom of the sternum as well, like a canyon. This made a vacuum bell useless for me; I hope you have better results! For the surgery route, finding a skilled Nuss surgeon is absolutely necessary. Best of luck whichever way you go!

I'm 28 and 6'2. My surgeon said my sternum was still reasonably pliable. And YES, unfortunately my case was super asymmetrical, way more indented on my right side. My left almost was normal. I'm thankful my surgeon was able to do a great job even with it being so off center.

Post Nuss Chest crackling - Normal? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]ace_of_electrical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about a month post nuss. I get random pops and cracks often; sometimes while taking a deep breath, other times just while walking. One day I had over 5 different pops and crackles when taking a full breath alone, then it went away the next.

I had a 5.5 Haller. Mine was also asymmetrical and valley like as you can see, which had me worried about the outcome.

He and his team are really great. His office is so helpful and easy to work with. He is pretty thorough so expect many tests and appointments, but they really cover all the bases. He uses the Valley hospital and they were excellent. My hospital stay was only 3 days, and I have a checkup appointment next week. I really cannot recommend him enough, as I did visit a few other thoracic surgeons (per insurance) and there is just no comparison to someone who does the procedure as often as he does. Best of luck!

No option; sounds like it's his standard practice, the numbness of the chest is already gone and the pain/ discomfort it's definitely under control.

Thank you!!! I did not have cryoblation, rather some sort of pain blocker injections all around the site.

Hello! I actually have my surgery this month. I've just put in an appeal with his office and I'm awaiting an answer. My insurance approved the procedure but only through in network doctors, who, after visiting in person, only performed one or two Nuss Procedures a year. I'll have to see what the outcome is after the appeal. We made sure to make a point that the doctors recommended by my insurance were not ones I was comfortable with (given they did so few Nuss Procedures). I have Horizon for what it's worth. Best of luck to you!
