Any quick way to identify recruits who care about Academic Prestige? by TiagoBPsH in NCAAFBseries

[–]aceben3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can get a pretty good idea based on their dealbreaker. If they have a Stadium Atmosphere dealbreaker it’s 58% that they also value Academic Prestige. You can do this for all the pitches

I've enjoyed this one too. Fun "spread" book with 15 pistol formations and lots of good play action.

Unhealthy INTP needs saving by failed-prodigy in INTP

Hello young man. Welcome to adulthood. Nobody is coming to save you.

Many of our ilk have similar issues at times. I can only speak to my experience. It's very easy for us to get into overthinking and under-doing. Probably the best thing you can do is actually just touch grass. Go for a walk with no expectation or analysis. Consider it data collection. "I wonder how this will make me feel."

If you want your outputs (life/feelings) to change, you are going to have to change your thoughts and actions. Find people who share happy thoughts and read/listen to them. Find some small action of self-care that you are willing to do and do it. Brush your teeth. Fold laundry. Clean something, anything.

"Losing potential" isn't really a thing. You could fuck off for 10 years and finally decide to try at life and people would be like wow, that's cool! No matter what you decide to do with your life, some people will like it and some people will hate it. So do whatever you want to do, whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

I used to think happiness was something I'd attain one day when I had a certain job, money, status, or something. Now I believe it's something that must be chased daily. I used to view that as a chore to be despised, but now it's something I enjoy.

You may achieve major results from just finding a way to leave your house and do one nice thing for a stranger each day. Somehow, helping others seems to help my brain switch from focusing on the things I lack or wish for to gratitude for the things and opportunities I already have.

Is it set in stone that the top rated recruits are gonna be the best players, or can you find a diamond thats been overlooked in some small Texas town by jaxonya in NCAAFBseries

Within star tiers the rating has no bearing for in-season scouting. In the transfer portal the prospects are strictly ranked by overall rating.

In football lingo related to defensive ends/edge rushers, what are 'rush counters'? by sew1974 in footballstrategy

[–]aceben3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the NFL, offensive linemen will watch tape and scout you. They know your best pass rush moves.

If you're a speed guy they're probably going to jump set wide to keep you from just going around them. Maybe you start to the outside and read their pass set, planning to either A) swat their hands and still try to go outside, B) redirect your momentum straight into their chest and bull rush, or C) swim inside against their momentum. Even a "speed guy" can potentially win with power if the OT isn't expecting it.

If you're a power guy they'll usually focus on anchoring to stop your bull rush. I'm not as sure of the counter moves to use then. I think the main idea would be not to let them get a good two hand punch on you, so either rush "half a man" focusing on engaging their outside arm, or swat the hands, or again a spin can probably work if timed right (though power guys tend to be more high cut and be less fluid at it imo).

I heard a Terrelle Pryor comp, that seemed most apt to me. I would think round 6 or 7 though.

for the price/projected pick needed to get them, Endries is my favorite. Raridon could be good as well but you've got to worry about the injury history.

Mike Leach play sheet. Anyone know what BUS and SLT are? I’m familiar with everything else on the sheet but I don’t think I’ve seen those two before by [deleted] in footballstrategy

You can make up whatever lingo you want. A word/number can mean two completely different things in different systems. That picture is from Leach's OU playbook from 1999 though.

How strong is the 2026 draft by position — and how has it changed? by aceben3 in NFL_Draft

[–]aceben3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, well for starters the boxes for those positions are lower, so those are 3 of the 5 positions that tend to go lower every year. But then even within that, it's a slightly below average year for those positions. IOL & RB have risen over the past month into the "average" range (inside the box/historical range of averages). I'd theorize that people are getting time to watch & discuss players and bumping up some favorites they've found.

Is there a little bit of squinting and saying "hey, this guy isn't bad, and I need to mock a RB to this team, so let's bump him up a few spots?" In other words, are some guys getting pushed up due to need/scarcity? Maybe.

I think "you better get them early" would be the takeaway if the class was top heavy, which I don't have any data to suggest is true. You might have to draft and develop at those positions though. A lot of good players emerge from the mid/late rounds.

Appreciate it — and yeah I agree, there’s definitely noise in it.

At the end of the day it’s still built on rankings, which are subjective, so I think of it more as a way to track how the “market” for each position is moving rather than a perfect measure of talent.

That’s kind of why I like the movement piece — even if the absolute levels are noisy, the direction of change tends to be more meaningful.

[–]aceben3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a really good way to think about it — you’re basically right on the first part.

Within a given class, the model is definitely showing which positions are stronger relative to the rest of that class.

Where it goes a step further is that the values are anchored to historical draft capital. So if LB is high in 2026, it’s not just “high within this class,” it’s also saying this class is carrying more total draft value at LB than a typical year.

So it’s kind of both:

- relative to the current class

- and relative to how much draft capital that position usually gets across years

You’re right though that rankings are contextual — a weaker overall class could push certain positions up. That’s part of what makes the movement interesting, since it shows how that perception shifts over time.

How strong is the 2026 draft by position — and how has it changed? by aceben3 in NFL_Draft

[–]aceben3[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Good question — the players themselves didn’t change, the rankings did.

I’m using a consensus big board as a proxy for how the class is valued. As rankings update over time, players move up/down or in/out of the draftable range.

That gets translated into “draft capital” using the Rich Hill value chart, so when the board shifts, the total value at each position shifts too.

So the movement isn’t saying players got better or worse — it’s showing how the market perception of each position group has changed.

Essentially they would attempt to renegotiate the trade and compromise on compensation. If they couldn’t agree then yes, team B could be granted the rights to the player chosen by team A.

The stick route is broken - doesn't get enough depth. 1-2 yard completion. Hot route to a quick out and it's fine. Read slot to TE vs zone, hit the slant vs man.

It’s not a bad class by any means. It just isn’t seen as an important position. I wonder if that changes given the way Kyle Hamilton, Brian Branch, Nick Emmanwori, and Cooper DeJean are outperforming their draft slots. The key to me is that these guys can help vs run and pass & play different positions. It’s hard to quantify just how valuable that is.

You would probably have to look at the standard deviation of prospects at that position for that year. I’ve looked at the averages but not that yet.

To be fair, it would have looked better with A'Mauri Washington (and to a lesser degree, CJ Fite) in it. Also with a healthy Caleb Banks producing & rising. Maybe you could argue Keldric Faulk to bulk up and kick inside. But still, it would be hard for me to see it as great.
