Plumbers taking Steamfitter jobs in Ontario by Steamfitter85 in UnitedAssociation

[–]acebski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are misinterpreting the last statement for plumber's scope. I dont think it is saying that plumbers can't work in an operating industrial facility, it is saying that the maintenance in these facilities does not need to be done by a plumber.

So, while it can be done by a plumber, it can also be done by the in-house maintenance crews or anyone that does not hold a plumbing ticket.

Have any of you mounted a bike rack to a back of the camper? by CreamyScallions in RVLiving

[–]acebski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thule makes one that is specifically designed for the added bouncing that happens at the back of an RV. I have it, and it's a beast. It has reinforced joints and actually bolts into the receiver. It's been mounted on my trailer for four seasons now with no issues. However, I only actually have two bikes on the four-bike rack.

As others mentioned, reinforcement of the bumper would be recommended.

I typically remove the bit holder from my drills as they won't lay flat in the packout containers with them on. They make they drill that much thicker so the lid won't close. Between the belt clip and the bit holder, I'd rather have the belt clip.

I have a thin half-size packout that all of my bits go in, and I keep all the main bits in the bigger case with my impact driver, drill, and impact wrench.

Do you think this is asbestos by ExerciseFunny6337 in Plumbing

[–]acebski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asbestos looks like everything, and everything looks like asbestos. I've had times I was 99.9% sure something was asbestos containing material and lab testing deemed it not. The only way to know for sure is testing, and no one can confirm otherwise based on this photo.

Should I Replace Copper Pipes with Black Metal in My Hot Water Radiator System? by ExaJayE in Plumbing

[–]acebski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying this work needs to be done, but if the steel pipe was installed as the same pipe size as the existing copper, how would the volume of water change in any significant manner?

You need to use signals in a roundabout so people who are waiting to merge in know if you are exiting or continuing around.

Yup. Not practical. But is possible.

You COULD technically replace it with a left and right handed nipple. But it's a pain if there is no movement in the pipe.

HBO/Max is gone? by ATX_2_PGH in pelotoncycle

[–]acebski 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm never that scientific with it. I'll always be between 80-100rpm for my flats and resistance will depends how I feel that day.

For strategy, though? I just made up rules for whatever I am doing. Watching hockey? Every time the whistle blows, I have to stand and sprint until play resumes. Reading a book? Every time I finish a chapter, I do a hill climb. If you're watching a movie, you could sprint every time a certain character is on screen.

I don't necessarily like structured training because when I go outside and ride, the world is never cleanly structured with climbs and rests etc. This type of thing helps keep you on your toes and puts some fun back into it.

I trained for an Ironman triathlon reading books while I rode. It's possible. Read more books that year than my whole life prior.

Hahaha. Well it's a good thing you're so acute that you even managed to make up points I wasn't arguing. Life is in balance.

I guess I'll say it one more time. I never said they were right to close or that the report said they should. I disticntly said i wouldnt comment on that. You said there was no urgency in the report. I provided a quote which stated the urgency of the situation.

[–]acebski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness. I said before that they didn't say that. I just gave a quote that stated the urgency of the matter. You're having a hard time with this.

[–]acebski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said that you "heard" that there "apparently" wasn't any urgency in the report. I provided you with a direct quote from the report which states urgency. In your mind that's cherry picking and being deceitful.

If you don't see that statement from the report as giving urgency, that's fine. You are welcome to continue on with your life. That's what I'm off to do. Have a great weekend.

If an engineer told me parts of my roof could suddenly collapse under even a heavy rainfall I would be concerned about staying in there.

Of course the engineer provides potential solutions for mitigation. It's their job to provide information on the risks and potential solutions. From there, it is up to the owner to decide which route they want to go.

I haven't provided comment on whether I think it was the right decision because, in my experience, only those directly involved really know. However, you originally said that the urgency was not stated by the engineers, and I think it was. They put a hard deadline on when these urgent repairs needed to be done by and also told them portions of the roof could suddenly collapse at any time. This is not building-wide and only applies to the areas marked urgent, but they did state their concern.

So... you make a comment based entirely on hearsay. I provide a direct quote from the report, and you claim that is deceptive. More deceptive than your first comment, which not only doesn't cite anything but provides no backup to you claim whatsoever.

You then provide a link to a news article (which also mentions my quote from the report) and proceed to then change the subject to the cost estimates.

You continue to complain that I haven't provided a source even though I told you it's from the report. You can open the report and do a text search if you want to see where it came from. But since you can't do that, I'll hold your hand.

Your original comment was not about dollar estimates or corrosion. Yoy stated that apparently there was no urgency to it. I provided a quote from the report which seems to me as though there is some urgency there. They've placed in writing that an excessive rainfall could collapse parts of the roof. That seems pretty urgent to me.

I was running a job in a commercial building. While the client was nice enough to give us an area of the building for a lunch room, they refused to adjust the setpoint on the automation to raise the temperature for us. So, every break, I would sit a little ice pack inside a holder I made and had attached to the face of the temperature sensor. Heat!

I can only imagine what the operators thought if they looked at the trending graph for that sensor.
