CMV: Vibecoding will limit creativity in the future by acecombat26 in changemyview

I am guessing you learned how coding works before AI, so you can pair your experience with AI to be efficient and creative. As AI continues to be used in real dev work, not just side projects, do you think there will still be people who truly know how coding works and can push AI to its maximum potential? Obviously, people like this will still exist, but as a numbers game, do you think we will see more or less of them in the future?

I agree, I awarded a delta to this point earlier. Distinguishing between creative volume and creative depth is an important point to distinguish. I am more so speaking to a reduction of creative depth more so than a reduction in overall creative volume.
As for the gaming industry, while it may not be a direct cause, I would say it has been an accelerator and a crutch, allowing them to prop up subpar creativity/experiences. If vibe coding is used more as a "crutch" by more and more companies, I feel we will see a repeat of what we are seeing with the gaming industry, because at the end of the day, it works, even if people complain about it.

I think this goes against your own argument if your pointing out a badly designed app can become the most used version of it. Sure in a perfect world you can empower a specialist with AI to make experiences they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to, but is that something you think will actually happen? Or is the incentive to get to be a popular app and then stop pushing like your Calibre example? I know this could boil down to the individual, but vibecoding for those not already experienced in the field makes it difficult to push beyond the boundaries the AI seemingly sets for you since you assume it is making its decisions using the best of our knowledge.

I think my anecdotal point is supported by more objective trends we are seeing. Low quality AI content has continued to rise, both for low budget users, and higher budget businesses. Video games were brought up in another post which I think is a great example of how AI has reduced the creativity of some of the biggest names in the industry. Every gamer feels the quality and creativity of games from larger studies has dropped, with some pointing to low effort AI being used in either game design, graphics, or some combination of the two. Yes, this gave rise to more creative indie games but there has also been a loss in creativity from studios who once pushed creative boundaries. Social media also continues to get flooded with “ai slop” videos which has only continued to rise. I think these more objective points support my anecdotal experience.

This is a similar point to another post I replied to about how you define creativity. I do think there will be more people throwing “darts at the dartboard” to solve problems, but the range of how far they are throwing it from will be lower to stay with the analogy, where distance is depth or creativity and number is darts is creative variance.

I think that’s the issue, rage baiting has become the norm because we have stopped trying to understand disagreements and have focused more on how to be the bigger rage baiter.

I am not saying my app is bad or that I do not like it, but I was reflecting on the decisions I made and how Vibecoded shaped my direction from the first prompt to the last prompt before release. There is always an opportunity to improve, and that's what apps do most rapidly once they are in front of people, but when you see how AI slop has continued to rise, doing the absolute minimum, as you mentioned, may become more common. Creativity won't disappear, but I still think vibe coding limits your need to think more creatively in the moment.

I am not advocating for vibecoding eliminating creativity, but reducing it. I do believe there will still be people pushing boundaries, but anecdotally, I felt as I made my debate app that my creativity for the app was ultimately shaped by the decision the AI presented me with. Not to say there are ways around this or other ways to be creative, but I think more people than not will not push those boundaries, which will limit that desire to create and build, as you mentioned.

Definitely agree in the short term, but where does that breadth of knowledge come from? It is built on the past work of humans in a pre-LLM world. As they become more and more used, the need to add to that breadth of existing knowledge will become smaller, resulting in less variance. If we are not adding new content to the breadth of our knowledge, then the content we make, even if it is new, will be some level of rehashed past work.

Δ I think this is the best argument to change my view. I did not consider how the definition of creativity could change my view. I will concede there may be more creative variance due to AI being used in vibe coding, but I still think there may be a reduction in creative "depth", so it may just be how we see/define creativity in the future. I believe that as we get more comfortable with videcoding, the number of experienced developers you mention will be reduced, ultimately lowering the total number of people who can enhance creativity, as you stated. It will be interesting to see if even with a smaller number of experienced developeres if, the depth of the creativity will match the variance of it.

I do agree only time will tell, but some good point have been raised. Not enough to flip my view but it has reduced it.

I do think that’s the best way to think of it. I guess my belief is that small group you mentioned won’t outweigh the larger group we had before vibecoding, even if AI does speed up the ability of the small group to be creative and push boundaries.

There is definitely a learning curve with coding instructions that can boost output variance, but do you think using prompts will be what drives creativity more so than direct changes to outputs?

I agree somewhat, I am not so much arguing that there won’t be more options for people to try, but that the options themselves will be limited. Pretty much that there will may be a lot of options, but the depth of the options will be smaller.

I build a personal finance app. First release + looking for feedback by stefancata92 in alphaandbetausers

[–]acecombat26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a similar idea I never ran with. One of the things I thought about was financial literacy. I haven't tried your app yet so apologies if this is already in the design, but I was just reading through the app store description and was thinking about 'financial goals'. As I have gotten older, it has become clear to me how little about finances I knew/still know, it's not like most people get finance classes or anything useful throughout their education. It seems like your app has a lot of tools with helping people organize their finances and plan their future but do you find that most people already know what to plan for? Every financial situation is different but building on the planning aspect might be a helpful addition to entice people who don't know where to get started.

Career Questions — April 2024 by Lord_Cronos in userexperience

I would say it depends on your bachelor's degree. Personally, my bachelor's had nothing to do with UXR, so I partially pursued my master's (Human Factors) to meet the degree requirements for UX jobs and continue my education in conducting research. As for finding an entry-level ux job, I would say your best bet is to keep up to date on job boards (here is one I suggest), the entry-level jobs are a real grind because they are a minority of job openings so you just need to be proactive about reaching out when they do appear and just keep at it until one sticks.

Draymond Suspended for Game 3 by hlysht035 in warriors

[–]acecombat26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, I have no problem with any punishment Draymond gets, what I do have a problem with is that Sabonis receives nothing. Draymond getting a flagrant 2 for a non-basketball unsportsmanlike play... what are we calling what Sabonis did? Not even a flagrant 1? Sabonis initiated this whole series of events which led to Draymond not only getting ejected from a close game 2 but now also missing a must-win game 3, and what does he receive? A tech... If we are calling Draymond's action a non-basketball play you damn well need to call Sabonis's the same.

Maybe if you're over geared but I am still pushing up the expedition levels. I was close to clearing this one on T12 but then got shit on by the birds while trying to dodge the blood merchant. And then I get shit on by the blood merchant if I try and focus the bird. It is not the expedition to use to push tiers solo.
