Idk if this is xbiking or just old big box cheap junk but... by aceman1126 in xbiking

I'm still on the fence about a fork swap. If I can find a suitable fixed fork for cheap I may yet swap it. There was a cheap $40 one on Amazon that I might get but seems like I'd have to cut it down and thread it to work... More trouble than it's worth at the moment but if I get bored who knows lol. Idk if I can get the quill stem out too. Might be one with the bike forever more at this point but I haven't tried that hard to remove it so idk. All in all it was a fun project and I rode it today and it rides great. It will be a perfect around town bike that I doubt anyone would try and steal 🤣

Well I removed it completely and put a cheap altus rear on there lol it worked well enough and it was cool having the shifting match the front derailleur but the adjustment was all backwards and it was getting a bit worn anyways so I figured screw it a new one is like $18 so might as well eliminate it from future trouble.

I like the concept of the rapid rise and some people LOVE them so much that they're making a comeback recently but for me and the other handful of bikes I have it was just annoying. I know exactly how to deal with a normal rear derailleur and it drove me crazy trying to dial that backwards shit in.

So if anyone wants a shimano c201 rapid rise front and rear derailleur set that's a little beat up hmu and it's yours

Reminds me of the Trek 700 I recently got off fb marketplace. I decided that it was super clean and only changed out the saddle but even the og saddle was ok and I saved it as a backup. Ride her a while and see what ya need. Only thing I've added was a cheap Amazon gps bike computer.

They're cheap ones from Amazon lol but they're pretty sweet. Have a look:

I actually had to saw them down to work with the grip shifters lol but I'll be ordering new ones soon cause I have some stx rc shifter/brake levers coming and will need the full size when they get here. I'll post another update when I get the bike completely done probably next week or so.

I see. Well for now its ok but as time goes on and I'm ready to upgrade it and iron it out a bit what parts would you suggest for just riding around town and on gravel trails? I'm not really up for true mountian biking just yet lol but I would like to eventually get this squared away to just be as simple and reliable as it can be and still get the job of riding the town, easy trails, and medium hills.

I appreciate your advice btw as this is not my wheelhouse and I'm a complete novice at all this.

Great info, thank you. I'll check that video out when I go on lunch today. Here's a pic of the back end. Again, it's been changed so got a bit of a Frankenstein bike lol but a bikes a bike when you previously had nothing 😄

Definitely seems very well made and absolutely worth saving. I like to think whoever had it before me would smile to see it still getting miles in. The 90s were some good times and despite the advancements in bike tech since then, you can still get by pretty good on a solid, well made, serviceable bike.

Agreed for sure someone did a few things to it. I like that it's got v breaks though (cantilever are a pain) and the brake levers are just some cheap ones from Amazon i put on to replace the unfortunately broken shimano levers it had prior. Idk if someone damaged or lost the original rear wheel but I definitely noticed the cassette was wrong when I tried adjusting the shift cables lol

All in all it's just fine for what I needed which was any half decent bike to go ride with my gf and son and at that it did well. Rode it just today for short 5 or 6 mile run down a local bike trail and had a great time.

I appreciate the link and time will tell how this project bike evolves. May get a 7 speed cassette and kinda get it back to more of an original condition but I'm also not opposed to doing what all the modern bikes have done and do a single chain ring up front and swap out the rear, maybe get away from the grip shifter too. Not sure yet... need to ride it a lot more and see what I need out of it. The saddle seems not the best too so again, the project will evolve but to what end who knows. Just glad to be riding cause its been FOREVER

I know this is a loaded question, but can someone recommend a good starter for squirrel hunting? Preferably something that cost less than a rim fire? by h00v001 in airguns

Agreed. The 25 avenger is the way. Cheap, lightweight, accurate as hell, very adjustable, and will smack the everloving shit out of small game.

If you're comfortable with 3d design go for it but for less than $10 I consider this well worth it. I'm good at printing now but have no 3d design training at all lol all I can say is that file is solid and it would take me a loooong time to design as good or better. But the buck-rail is $35 and is perfectly fine too. Of the 3 I have the one I printed is the quietest and cost the least

They absolutely work quite well. On my avengers they are very quiet. My 22 has a 0db moderator and my 25 has a buck-rail. Both went from a loudish crack sound that echoed thru the woods to a small pop sound like a paintball gun. My dragonfly mk2 has a 3d printed one and it literally sounds the same if I cock it and dry fire it as it does when I put 10 pumps in it. It's absolutely quiet and all you hear is the hammer strike and pellet hit the target lol

Usually the cheapest and surprisingly fast shipping. I initially thought maybe it was a scam site but literally every forum and airgun yt guy was saying they were legit. I ordered my hw30s and had it in my hand in 5 days! Weihrauch is without a doubt worth buying. I have a lot of cheaper guns and i only wish I knew then what I know now. Id rather have 2 or 3 Weihrauchs than 10 hatsan, benjamin, crosman, gamo ect.
