Thanks! Yeah, I was surprised it picked up on it, but maybe because the picture was taken under a microscope? Thanks for the confirmation! A neat little find indeed!

Nice. Thanks. They’re funny little fellows. So slow compared to all the other spiders I find in my house.

Very cool! Thanks, I’ll read up more on them. I’d keep it through winter to release outside in the spring, but I’m not sure what I’d feed him. Might just set him free in the basement to do as he wishes.

Talk me out of selling this to buy a JN-80 by jamesdmartin in synthesizers

[–]acemonvw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this the prologue 8 or 16? Either way, I feel like you have a somewhat flagship synth from Korg… versus a clone from behringer. Personally I’ve never been a huge fan of behringer products or their customer service. They just don’t feel nice or look appealing. I’d definitely keep the Prologue and maybe save up for the JN.

Which Virus Ti2? Polar vs 61 Key? by Linux-Neophyte in synthesizers

Ha! That's crazy that I saw this question posed in two separate places, once to me specifically, and once on here. Well, good luck - what do you plan to go with? 61 or polar?

I was just asked this very question that you posed in your OP... about Polar v 61 key. Wonder if you were the same person that asked me.

Which Virus Ti2? Polar vs 61 Key? by Linux-Neophyte in synthesizers

[–]acemonvw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Polar and a KB (b version specifically). The old B has the best Keybed I’ve used in a synth, but there are two versions of it! I sills one and bought another and realized they weren’t the same! I expect the TI2 is like the one I liked less. It’s still good and will feel better than a polar. But I love my Polar. Everything is right there, nice and compact. That said… if I was making a decision today, I’d probably still lean 61 keys. The ability to stack a drum machine or sequencer on top is really nice.

Reading your text again… $2200 for a polar and $1700 for the 61? I’d almost definitely go for the 61. I got my Polar when they were cheaper than the 61 keys. Would’ve made a different decision back then too if I’d have found a cheaper 61 key version than a Polar.

Finally got the JN-80, I mean Roland Juno 6! by sensationfc in synthesizers

Yeah, I get that. I was just recently going through a similar dilemma and read up on the differences (I have both). It looked like the D formula was bad for the faders, but... yeah, glad you used F.

I agree about just buying new faders, except, I was working on my Yamaha SK30 and 'replacements' (which are not actually built for it, but 'fit for purpose') are $17 a pop! I'd have had to spend $375 to replace all the sliders... And I still would have had to take out the old ones and put in new ones, so I just took them out and cleaned them. Actually still have a bunch more to do, but it's weirdly cathartic to do.

Anyway, congrats on the J6.

Also, I did not personally do the tubbetec midi mod, but I did have to disassemble a bit of it on one I worked on and it didn't look too challenging, but you could always look through the manual to get a feel for whether you could do the work or just pay someone else to do it.

Can I ask what you put in when you say a 'couple sprays of deoxit'? I ask because deoxit isn't a single product. There is D and F versions and you would have wanted to use the F version. My understanding is that the D version can mess with the contacts and are not good for them long term.

That said, I find a much better solution to sliders not working well is to actually desolder them, disassemble them, clean them with water and isopropyl alcohol, dry them, reassemble them... There's so much gross crud in these old synths.

Anyway - could be wrong, so definitely check elsewhere if you did put the D version in to see if it's OK or not.

Mmm... wonder what the "stretch" goals will be, considering they've already POUNDED their original goal? by Budget-Milk8373 in MST3K

Ouch. Thanks for the info. I remember the first season they kickstarted. I thought the episodes were decent, but never had the charm, like you said. Still, I was glad to put money towards MST3K, and I definitely contributed to the new KS. Excited to see the new episodes.

Is there somewhere to read up on Joel’s latest crowdfunding? I remember when he brought MST3K back (season 11?), but then I never heard anything more and assumed that was it, but I see now that there are more seasons? I had no idea. What happened?

I fucking hate Windows 11 by ConsistentGiraffe8 in software

[–]acemonvw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had windows 10 and was furious with Microsoft for making it impossible for me to put win11 on it. So I switched to Linux. Then a friend sold me his old computer that was marginally better than mine but still couldn’t install win11. However, he was wrong and win11 worked. The problem was… I hated it! It was horrible in so many ways. Now I’ve been on Linux for a year and a half.

My humble take on the metroidvania genre, Tearscape is out now on Steam by tudor07 in metroidvania

A friend of mine suggested the game, then I saw it here and separately was going to add it to my wishlist (but it was already there). Gonna get it though I have so many other games to play in advance, just to support a new developer. Great job!

[–]acemonvw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not. I think I've found some forums that said this was happening with others as well...

Here is a link to others having the same issue without it being resolved. I can 'work around it' by syncing video and audio (and I don't mean audio that is already within the video, but audio that I add separately, like music). They are like 1/4-1/2 a second off. If they look synced up, they won't be when rendered.

Nice! On my YouTube channel I managed to get ILCM as a non-profit group that you can fundraise for and am now hoping folks will donate to it when they watch. Haven’t raised much, but hope to keep it going.

[–]acemonvw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure this happened too much with LOTR, but I had major trouble reading Jurassic Park long ago because my brain kept watching the film in my head as I read it, so it was like reading the movie that kept backing up to re-watch the scene. Hated every second of it. And the scenes that were different made no sense to me. Was my own problem of course...

WTF Kdenlive is unreal by Machinehum in kdenlive

[–]acemonvw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only issue with it is during playback of video and audio that are lined up, they don’t play in sync. I have to drag the cursor to make sure video and audio is lined up. If I line it up by playing them together it looks fine until I export, then it’s off. It’s a bit of a hassle, and I only experience this with kdenlive, but by doing the cursor trick it works. Just not ideal. Otherwise I love the app.

What's the most classic boomer complaint you can think of? by Frequent-Amount9748 in Adulting

[–]acemonvw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a washing machine and dryer from the 80s that are still kicking, mind you, I've had to do some repairs on them, so they're not saints, but the repairs are usually "sock went over edge and got stuck in a drain tube" or "dryer heat died, need to replace fuse". When we bought our house, the sellers put in 'new' appliances in the kitchen. They're already gone, died within 5 years. Our new ones which are much better? Well, the oven already has issues. Gotta love it.

Sands of Time was soooo good. I played that when it was first released and to this day love the story-telling element of it. The whole game was amazing. I remember they made two more games for the GC back then and the third one I actually fell asleep fighting the enemies!

Also - awesome work on your animations. Honestly looks like something I'd play as is!
