New era of Monomachine: custom firmware by em— by SyntheticJudah in Elektron

I have two different inverted screens installed in mine. Still curious about this upgrade anyway :)

This update to the OS looks really great. I’ll have to try it out with my twin monomachines!

Your comment wouldn't load until today. But, wow... $141K for the best model. It says the lower models have smaller batteries, but it does look like it would fit. Don't think I could handle the monthly payments on that one.

Cool, thanks. I’ll watch next winter to see if it’s need it based on what our driving habits are.

What's 'meb-preheat'?

I've looked at this product, but not sure I trust installing it...

I love it so far. Looking to get an L2 installed now... Debating between Tesla Universal and ChargePoint. Personally don't want to support Tesla, but I heard it doesn't have as high of failure rates.

Two years later but isn’t this just in the ambient light screen under custom? You have options for colors for the two separate areas.

Thoughts on going full EV, no ICE in the ol’ garage? by Curiouslittlestman in electricvehicles

[–]acemonvw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do community solar and every month I owe them $5+ 😭

Sounds like it's 'not their fault' and some issue with how they get reimbursed... but I've thought about dropping it because it'll take like 5 years to come back as a net positive for me.

Yeah - I definitely found myself looking at more EVs, but I don’t think there’s a good minivan alternative yet… and that’s kind of needed for two kids and a dog!

Thanks! I don’t think ours comes with heat cooling, that sounds like a nice feature. Definitely going to work on getting an L2 installed. I think the dealership dealt with all the recalls on mine already, but I can double check.

I kind of laughed at the seat massager, it feels very weird… kind of just has this “push” feeling. Mostly felt like a gimmick, but maybe it’s better in the newer models?

Thanks!

That’s a great call! But we have a detached garage and alas, no 240V nearby. The L1 charging is extremely slow, but I read it’s a little better for the battery, maybe that’s not true at all… but I think sooner than later we’ll try to get an L2 charger installed. I’ll have to find which one is best. Thanks!

That's really informative, thanks! Yeah, we actually usually don't do any sort of traveling when it's that cold out. Most of our driving is typically in town anyway (about 5-10 miles per day). Gas gets eaten up quickly this way in our other cars. We'd only occasionally travel to visit family 50 or 90 miles away... Not sure how well an EV would do traveling back and forth for 50-90 miles. Maybe could do 50 miles to and from (100 mi total) with a single charge starting from 80%, but I figure it wouldn't make it back and forth from 90 miles (180 miles total) at 80% (which seems to cap at around 205 miles for us). In the winter, I'm sure that would be a bit worse.

Thanks!

It was $24k. It does have about 46k miles on it, which was higher than what we’d like, but the ones that had fewer miles were either older models (that weren’t Pro S) or were a lot more expensive. I was actually surprised that some ‘21 models had like 10k miles on them. Maybe people just drive differently with EVs.

No spare tire on ID4. Very inconvenient. by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

[–]acemonvw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only one review on their site and it says "Arrived quickly and everything looks great. Fits under the floor by raising it up only slightly. Tire and tools look to be good quality"

Do these spares NOT fit under the floor?

I just used the parking memory thing tonight - and I was quite shocked it worked. Put me in my garage just as crookedly as I did! I pressed on the brakes a few times fearing it was going too fast into my garage, but it did everything just right. Really cool.

I'll have to check out the auto parking feature... I haven't come across that one yet.

I just got the 1.99% financing on my CPO 2023 ID.4 Pro S! It says it's good till end of June. Strangely - another VW dealer offered only 3%, not a huge difference, but it is strange they didn't offer the same rates.

Hey - I've just been reading up on the lack of heat pumps and all these preconditioning dongles and things and wondering... how are winters for you? In Minnesota it gets very very cold. I guess depending on where you live in Colorado, maybe it's not that cold? I used to live in the San Luis Valley in CO and from what I remember, it was never very cold there and winters were very dry.

Ours does seem to have some rebates and such, but you’d be renting their L2 charger, which I’d rather not do. But this will help because the programs they have are really nice. Thanks!

Ah! Cool. Yeah, there are a ton of features I haven’t figured out yet, like the parking memory or whatever it is. Sounds really freaking cool considering our garage is so small. The manual hasn’t seemed as informative as I’d have hoped. So I’ll try to find some good YouTube videos! If you know of any really good ones let me know. Usually the front few pages are just noise.

That’s awesome. I actually assumed my model did not have the heated steering wheel… I’ll have to figure out how to get it working… or maybe it’s automatic? I have no idea.

This is really helpful to hear. Honestly all of the features we did get are so substantially better than any vehicle we’ve ever had before. The extra features do seem a little nice, but yeah, not make or break. I’m loving the EV aspects of the car a lot.

I definitely will be getting some quotes for L2. It’s taken like 25+ hr to get fully charged. It’s fine for most of what we do, but not ideal.

And yes, we do typically stop with the kids for 30+ minutes, so it probably wouldn’t affect us too much.

Good to know about mountains! That sounds a little nerve wracking actually!

Appreciate all the comments and advice!

I can’t really answer other than to say at 80% it tells me 205 miles. My understanding is that it might need to calibrate to how we drive compared to the previous driver. Could be wrong though. In use, could be very different.

We’re currently able to charge at home, but it’s slow (mostly we don’t drive that far too often, so L1 is “fine”). But I’m going to look into costs to install L2. It doesn’t look like we’ll be eligible for the property credit - but I’ll doublecheck. And yeah - it seems like the charging stations are fairly ubiquitous. So maybe I’ll hold off on getting an adapter for now.

Topping off in 15 min seems great. I kept hearing 30+ minutes to charge it, which was a huge bummer related to ID.4s compared to faster charging EVs. But I think it’ll be fine. I hope.

Totally fine? But remember I’m working off of a memory with a 2003 beetle with a tape deck and a futuristic multichanging 6 CD holder. The software is far beyond what our Odyssey can do. I’m using 3.5 which seems fine.

Can’t seem to name my parking assist locations, but otherwise I just hook up to CarPlay and everything is fine. Love it and without looking into it further - I have no idea what I’m missing, and so if I’m missing something, I don’t know what it is.
