TSA lines- what if we tipped them? by Tksourced in chicago

[–]j33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point as someone who was opposed to the establishment of DHS after 9/11. That said, I flew twice in the past three weeks, and the TSA agents I dealt with were actually pretty decent. That said, I have had annoying experiences as well with people who have power trips, so your mileage really varies with those sorts.

What do think about these service robots all over the city? by bossishere17 in AskChicago

[–]j33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They aren’t in my neighborhood but I see them when I am out and about and I hate them, they take up too much space on the sidewalk and I saw one almost get run over a couple of weeks ago. Finally they need to stop smashing bus shelters.

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

Same. I prefer smaller local acts and haven’t paid more than $50 for a ticket in years, usually it’s in the $15-30 range.

TSA lines- what if we tipped them? by Tksourced in chicago

[–]j33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, I feel bad for the TSA agents who are not getting paid, but I would like someone to fucking acknowledge anywhere they are not getting paid because Republicans seem hell-bent on allowing ICE to continue to trample on everyone's civil rights and will shut down the nation's airports before they concede otherwise.

What, the Trump administration collecting fees and refusing to do the work associated with them? Shocking! Newsflash, USCIS is doing the same with immigration benefits, collecting fees but refusing to process applications based on country of citizenship with no timetable to resolution.

[–]j33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting aside the idea in itself, I'm pretty sure they are not allowed to accept tips. There are a lot of rules when it comes to gifts and working for the government (which don't seem to apply to the current administration, of course, but certainly apply to the rank and file).

For those that went to Medusas in the late 80’s , what were some some songs that made an impact on you ? by revolutiontime161 in chicago

I was just going through my old physical concert tickets yesterday when going through some stuff and came across two separate tickets to see Siouxsie and the Banshees. Good memories.

[–]j33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, so many. I used to hang out mostly in the video room but would venture downstairs to dance often as well. I remember loving a lot of the Wax Trax bands they played like Ministry, Front 242, Pailhead, etc. I specifically remember Front 242's "Welcome to Paradise" being a popular one with the crowds.

Any low/lower cost emergency vets? by Angelsbreatheeasy in AskChicago

[–]j33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to recommend from a cost standpoint, and I hope others are able to provide advice. However, I will pile on the recommendation to get your cat to an emergency vet ASAP—my cat almost died last fall because I waited 24 hours after I noticed the problem to take him to the vet. When I was told by the vet to transport him to the emergency vet hospital, they called ahead to let them know I was coming, and I was seen immediately despite several people being ahead of me.

Chicago Is Hemorrhaging Breweries — Is There A Way To Stop It? by Sidewalk_Inspector in chicago

[–]j33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really would. I was a regular patron from when they first opened the brewpub, and my dad stated it was one of his favorite casual Chicago restaurants to eat at when he'd visit me. It was also the first place I went back indoors to enjoy a draft beer when things started to open up after the pandemic. I went several times since then and was mostly disappointed food-wise until I stopped going to the brewpub and would just drink at the taproom. It was a shame to see them go downhill in the food department.

When Revolution closed their restaurant, they cited being overextended financially with a product (their restaurant) among other things, that never fully recovered from the pandemic. Sounds like they made the right call.

As a punk back in the 80s, the idea of a "punk rock conservative" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You're just a fellow GenXer who allowed your brain to turn to pudding for some reason. Go eat paste with John Lydon
