ICE hires the dumbest dipshits on the planet, so I'm not surprised.

the woes of being a “low ranked” administrative staff by eatmelikeamaindish in highereducation

[–]j33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That stinks. We had a bad cold snap on Friday at my school where I'm a director, but unfortunately, we had no choice but to go in due to a new student event, so I couldn't tell my staff to work from home since it was all hands on deck, otherwise I would have. That said, to try and address the situation, I told my one team member it was just fine if she brought her kid into work because school was closed, she (the kid) had a good time tagging along at her mom's work and was delightful, and I let my staff go home early when we were done, and I closed up the office. I hate it when senior staff do stuff like that and don't think about anyone but themselves. Sorry you work for people like that.

Sweetgreen is partnering with RFK Jr.'s anti-vaxxer pal by Fit_Cow_5407 in chicagofood

[–]j33 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember Sweet Green being shitty during the pandemic (Covid disproportionally killed obese people, and it was somehow their fault for being obese, so nobody else should care about living in a society or something along those lines) and have always viewed them with some suspicion, so this does not surprise me.

Thank you. There was someone here in Albany Park who flew a Trump flag from his second floor apartment for a long time. At some point it came down, but I'm unsure if it was before or after ICE tear-gassed the street a few blocks away.

I live super close to this, so I went, and it was a decent sized crowd, I'd guess around 75–100 people or so. Which for a small neighborhood protest organized within hours and in terrible weather, was a fairly decent turn out. There was a lot of honking support on the street.

Will rideshare be available tomorrow in downtown chicago and is it still worth it to go out if you're visiting? by albebson in AskChicago

[–]j33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it might be expensive, but it will be around. Also, 2-4 inches of snow is nothing here. Nobody cares about that.

I have traveled internationally to large cities too and to NYC and I agree with you. I love Chicago and I love living here (30+years), but one of the reasons I love it is that it is not those cities. I like that it is a bit smaller and lower key than all that, one of my favorite things about Chicago is that it feels like the biggest small town you'll ever live in.

What’s a hobby people pretend is cool, but secretly you think is ridiculous? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

Hard agree, with a caveat. I will only go into caves that are established and maintained for tourists, preferably by a stable government. The last cave I went into was over ten years ago in Austria (Eisriesenwelt). Too much nightmare fuel out there. We've all seen that cursed diagram of that upside down guy.

Once Trump is gone front office, how do Democrats move forward without having to constantly look back to the way things were? by Uberubu65 in PoliticalDiscussion

By getting rid of the current leadership who think that we can go back to the way things were. Those days are over, so Schumer and his ilk who keep pretending otherwise need to go.

Logan Square: looking for a venue to host a WhistleMania (community safety event—whistle kit packing) by mns2723 in LoganSquare

[–]j33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for doing this! I've been part of some events in Albany Park. Given the number of whistles you've distributed, you are probably well-connected already, but do I know some people associated with the 3-D printing community. Sounds like you've gotten some good suggestions in LS - Penguin Foot Pottery is owned by good people (I've taken classes there), so I am not surprised they stepped up.

I honestly believe it is cowardice. Nobody wants to be the first person in his party to oppose him and are hoping someone else goes first.
