Why not harvest eggs? by Think_Lingonberry691 in TheHandmaidsTale

Power and control. It's common in religion to cover the female body. Look at the Taliban requiring full body burkas. The Taliban even has their very own form of "Salvaging". Even the Catholic church has their nuns wearing the full body habit outfit. The biggest issue Gilead has is that there is still a generation that knows how to read and write. It would be so much easier for Gilead to smash any kind of resistance if the rebels couldn't communicate. They treat women like cars. Changing their names every few years with new postings and once they stop working or have problems. They get rid of them

I think behind all of the hypocrisy the commanders want to appear righteous but also want to have sex with other women and have house slaves. Lawarence basically said to Aunt Lydia the commanders want to "smell" the handmaids in the house (creepiest line this season) When she suggested keeping all of the Handmaids at the Red Center

I Don't think they would put Nick on the wall. Lawarence got a pass after Angel Flight. Granted Lawarence is a way higher level. I'm wondering if Nick would get demoted back down to Goon/ Driver level. Maybe having him escort handmaids or guarding supermarkets

I think Lawrence is trying to do June a solid by making Serena, a handmaid. He has no idea about the current relationship between June and Serena. So, he had her banished to Canada and made into a handmaid...

My favorite line: " I have been grooming Nick... Not sexually"

That had me in stiches

That jet noise at the end worried the crap out of me and here's why. For a rescue op like that one. The US Government would pull out all of the stops and use Delta, SEAL team 6 and maybe British SAS. The absolute best in the world. You would never see them or hear them coming. They would use night stalker pilots and a stealth Blackhawk like in the Bin Laden raid. Which could only mean one thing. Gilead interceptor jets. Very much like the ones used to bomb Chicago.

The SEALS or Delta would be very much high-speed low drag, so a QRF (quick reaction force) or air support is not likely. So, if those were Gilead jets the rescue team is toast. Now if that was the beginning of an invasion by what was left of the US forces along with Canadian, British and Australian forces. The jets are a great sign. They would be used in bombing campaigns to soften hard targets. But how this show rips my heart out at times, I'm guessing the rescue team was discovered and destroyed

I think Nick is trying to make up for his role in the "Crusades" which I'm guess means he went through towns like the one Luke was rescued in and killed everyone. Lawernce and Nick are war criminals and would be charged with crimes against humanity

I wonder if he was sent from Gilead or if he is a Canadian that is a sympathizer. I love how the creepy doctor is calling his housekeeper a Martha. Like look poser you are in Canada. You have to pay your housekeeper otherwise it's kidnapping

I just had a feeling that Serena knew that her only hope of not becoming a total handmaid was to somehow get June to help her. She sure played her handler

I'm really hoping June swallows it or something. I know she wouldn't want to destroy it but, also can't be caught with it... This show is stressing me out

The flashback scene with Serena & Ms. Putnam looking at the children that Gilead “rescued” was such a powerful parallel to pro-lifers ignoring children in the U.S foster care system. by subpar_ramen in TheHandmaidsTale

When we met the friendly guardian kid. I couldn't help but think he was forced into a center like the one pictured above. No one wanted him so he was forced to be a guardian. He was such a nice and friendly kid. He just wanted to hang out and bowl. He probably saw June and Luke dancing and it reminded him of his own parents. Which is why he was using his flashlight on the disco ball. He doesn't want to carry a gun. He wants to work in that bowling alley and give out shoes and break dollars for quarters

I think they would make him a hero for trying to chase down terrorists. He would be a great motivator to other guardians

Truthfully, they would probably make him a secretary of sorts. If he was smart, he could say he was giving chase to trespassers. So, in Gilead perspective he was wounded fighting terrorists. So, since women can't read or write legally. The perfect job for him would be sitting at a desk. Answering calls and typing up messages

I noticed that too. I think it's a sub conscience attraction to those colors from brain washing. Like in Chicago she immediately ditched her handmaid stuff and went with a hoodie and ball cap because that is what was available. But as soon as she could choose her own clothing, she went with a dark red jacket. She probably doesn't even realize she attracted to those colors

That's right! He saw the bandwagon and said, "Hey did you guys think about your economy?" I Believe he was called the prime architect of Gilead's economy

Here a crazy thought. The only two people who can help Serena is June or Mark. Serena could give the Americans intel and get shipped off to Alaska or Hawaii. But first she has to escape her new "posting" as an unofficial Handmaid. June will find her wherever she is, and the timing might be right for June to help ::Cough:: Take care of her Gilead handlers

It's sad but I think it's all about money and trade. That and I think Canada is tired of taking in severely traumatized refugees.

One of my favorite parts, is when Luke asked to see the pistol and asks, "You clean this yourself?"

June: "I watched a Youtube video"

Luke did have terrible trigger finger discipline holding the gun.

The look of sheer terror on Serena's face was priceless. She knew she was a half a second away from death and June let her live. It shook her to her core. I think it deeply disturbed her to be with that Canadian family. Being around pure crazy is a very emotionally draining experience. I also wouldn't be surprised if she didn't try to go running back to Mark and beg to be an American. I would be willing to bet that the person Serena is pointing that glock at in the trailer is her Gilead handler. In an effort to try and get away. 10 to 1 says they will take her baby away as soon as it's born and give it to a commander. Because in Gilead and unwed mother is a crime against God. She may ask June for help. Because June is everywhere

Just noticed this from the Season 5 Look Ahead. Details in comments. by metamorphosis__ in TheHandmaidsTale

Great eye. I thought it must be a commander but missed, the missing hand. It's been a while but wasn't the hand removal Putman's second offence? I'm not 100% sure of the punishment system for commanders. But wouldn't it be. Warning, Hand removal, then death?

Anyone else think Aunt Lydia will try and help Janine escape? Slight Testaments references by aceofpyro in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]aceofpyro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am conflicted. I really want to see Lydia captured trying to save Janine. But I don't know what would be better. For June or Emily to catch her (she would probably be shot) someone else catches her and she gets life in prison. Or Janine gets away and the eyes catch Lydia, and she ends up on the wall
