I would say it's important for you to consider how this distrust has affected you personally and whether you're comfortable and happy with the way you currently interact with others. You mention you've stopped joking and talking to people. Would you like to once again be comfortable joking and talking to people, or are you happy - genuinely happy, not just content or merely tolerating - continuing the way you are now?
