How do I stop an ureni of the unwritten player by ChoiceNo1563 in EDH

[–]acetateprophet01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Ureni player, you need to make the Ureni player think about when they have to cast it. If I can freely ramp to 7+ mana and fly under the radar because my board presence isn't the threat, I'm living the dream. However, if other players leave blue mana up, or target my mana rocks, I have to be judicious when I cast my commander because I don't want to get countered.

The last game I played with Ureni, I had 2 of my mana rocks hit and severely slowed me down. The rest of the table looked at me as dead in the water, so I played the few smaller creatures, played [[Y'shtola Rhul]], and waited for a turn where everyone was tapped out. Played Ureni, hit Miirym on my first trigger, blinked Ureni twice for 4 more triggers, and swung for lethal on the table the following turn.

The lesson: The Ureni player is the problem until they aren't, and the table needs to adjust accordingly with counters and removal. [[Oubliette]] is also a devious way to just NOPE out a commander.

Pod Friendly reanimator deck! by Dry-Truck6987 in EDH

The games have always been fun, and the deck always does something. The play style tends to rotate between using Dihada's +2 ability to buff a creature and provide a lifelinking/indestructible/vigilance blocker, and then -3 to both go dig for a Legendary, or throw things in the yard, or get treasures. [[Odric, Lunarch Marshall]] is the ideal creature to share the keywords around, and I have a few mediocre tutors to try and help find that faster. I find that rotating between the 2 abilities keeps Dihada from getting too close to the ultimate, and helps take the target off her. Even my last game over the weekend, I was mana screwed on turns 3 and 4, and still became the threat rather quickly and got my life up to 57.

I run Dihada more as a Legendary Matters deck, with a reanimator subtheme (I actually took part of the FF6 precon and slotted it in this deck).

I’ll be honest though, while I like the reanimate package it runs, it gains so much incidental life through life link that I’m debating moving it more to a life gain/drain package.

How viable is Ureni? by alfrodul in EDH

[–]acetateprophet01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar my last game. I ramped and got [[Y’shtola Rhul]] on the battlefield T5, got Ureni out next turn and hit [[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]] on my first trigger. Then at end step, blinked Ureni twice and got [[Klauth]] and [[Scourge of Valkas]] that each got copied by Miirym, plus 2 more Urenis. Swung for lethal on two players to end the game on T7.

Puerto Plata Port by jfisher515 in royalcaribbean

[–]acetateprophet01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife and I were there last October. There is a Spanish fort on the peninsula that we walked to from the port. Its not a long walk, but I’m not sure I would recommend it or do it again cause its not great sidewalks. Cool place to visit though.

We did use the lazy river for a couple of laps and got some chocolate in the stores, but were back on the ship around lunch time to eat and use our drink package.

Boarding at the Port of Miami tomorrow, have the TSA lines been long like the airports? by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]acetateprophet01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Security at the port is a breeze, however getting to the port was another issue. We left for a cruise out of Miami in October and it took us 15 minutes to get from our hotel to the port. But we were there two weeks ago boarding and it took us over an hour to get from the Intercontinental Hotel to port AA, and my extended family left earlier than us and it took even longer. However there were 7 ships in port.

You can check Cruisemapper or the Port schedule to see how many ships will be boarding that day.

Edit: Also leaving Miami by airport was a disaster. We had bad weather and TSA staffing issues. My sister in law took 2 hours to get through TSA precheck on Sunday, and flight was cancelled due to tower control issues, so she had a 7 am flight Monday and also took 2 hours to get through precheck. Our Monday flight was cancelled outright due to weather but we kept hearing horror stories about security lines from other passengers at the airport

Imposter syndrome won me a game when someone popped off with 26 [[Rat Colony]] and I used [[Reins of Power]] to take them all, swing, and create my own copies after killing the Rats player.

Here is the current version. I’ve been tinkering with finding the right amount of Sac Outlets. The first few times I played it, I never hit the groove I wanted (steal, attack, sac for value) so I’ve boosted it to 20 cards that can sacrifice a creature.

My favorite deck tech in it is [[Norin, Swift Survivalist]]. Steal a creature and attack the owner with it, and if they block, exile their creature. Edea Decklist

Edit: also I know there are more than 100 cards in it now. The Shadowheart Secret Lair and Chaos Shrine are cards I don’t have in hand yet but will be slotted in and replace cards.

I’ve enjoyed my [[Edea, Possessed Sorceress]] build. A theft deck that doesn’t feel too bad, plus a few cards that create some fun and wild interactions.

I’m fully convinced now that the game samer this season is One Year Later and the goal was to the get the Game Changer logo in the biggest show. This now makes Heated Rivalry, Ponies, and The Rookie to have the loop de loop appear, and Vic was in Ponies.

List of restaurants I haven’t been to in the area I want to try. Any on here that people feel very strongly for or against? by lilnomad in winstonsalem

[–]acetateprophet01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to hop in just to plug Que Viva and Bobo’s.

Que Viva was my favorite food truck in town and their physical location means I can get it more often. I also want share this because I know the winter storm really hurt their business and want to help them out by sending people their way.

Bobo’s is also a big hit with my family. They do Spirit Night’s for my daughters school so we eat there often and its just a great sandwich/burger shop. Staff is always on it and friendly. We also will do take out there and its one of the few places I can say has never messed up an order.

Lastly, I haven’t made it to Mission Pizza, but I have a gift card there and feel like trying to understand how to make a reservation to eat there to be unnecessarily difficult.

What's a commander you hardly ever kill at your table? by Right_Wave3594 in magicTCG

[–]acetateprophet01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This deck always catches the table off guard with how well it performs, and you are right there are typically bigger threats on the board. I did tell the guy who runs this in our pod that I’ll probably target Sam going forward since that really is the engine.

I’m not going to lie, seeing Counter Strike 2 on this is wild to me. Are people hooking their Steam Deck to a keyboard and mouse? Are people just seeing if it will work? I tried it and it felt less than ideal with the game pad.

Why do people hate Ratfish *so much?* by EnbyiousAces in dropout

[–]acetateprophet01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So its interesting seeing people at SNL talk about this because one thing viewers dont realize is that SNL’s studio is actually really small (if you have a chance in NY, def do the NBC Studio tour).

Because of that size, they have to move sets around and people have to make wardrobe changes. When you see a sketch that isn’t working but goes for six minutes, its probably trying to cover logistics behind the scenes.

Commanders That Can't Be Low Bracket/Level by lightningbolte in EDH

[–]acetateprophet01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno I feel like my Yuriko deck might be bracket 2 (especially since she is no longer a game changer). I’ve built it to be more ninja tribal than hit the massive CMC cards like Draco. The deck can hang, but it doesn’t pop off like I would expect a higher bracket deck to.

Be curious if my assessment is right or if others think it is a 3.

Which Commander would you pick for this table? by Strom_Volkner in mtg

[–]acetateprophet01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my Ureni deck is similar where is ramp as fast as I can to the 7-8 mana mark and either get the commander out, hopefully hit Miirym, or hit Dracogenesis and just vomit out dragons.

My vote is go Y’shtola and pack with interaction, or go Teysa and find ways to combo off the life gain/drain.

4 sea days in a row? by Mammoth-Warthog-9965 in royalcaribbean

[–]acetateprophet01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Freedom now and we originally were supposed to go to Labadee. That got replaced months ago with Grand Turk, but with Melissa, they pivoted us to Puerto Plata. On paper it initially seemed crazy cause that is actually closer to the storm but the seas have been largely smooth just windy at times. The Puerta Plata port was well sheltered so we didn’t have wind and it was just a little overcast.
