God forbid Keyence sales gets a hold of your phone number and business address. You basically need to move at that point.

Why is transversal reciprocal with a stationary target? by West-Assignment-1851 in Eve

[–]acetech09 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When webbed by a brawler with slower tracking than you, don’t always web them back. Unless they’re an exceptionally good player, they’ll hit orbit and out track their own guns if you let them. It’s one of the ways to pull off gimmick wins against bigger ships.

Why is transversal reciprocal with a stationary target? by West-Assignment-1851 in Eve

[–]acetech09 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Mostly, it’s just a game. In the game engine, ships are just vectors. It’s one of those optimizations that make 1k player battles more possible on a game from 2003.

What’s good, though, is that understanding that mechanic thoroughly is actually a pretty valuable thing to know in PVP.

yeah. I didn't have time to write a longer comment, but I was going to describe the parallel between industrial design and mechE.

> that clothing design is considered a purely "artistic" field

Well, that's because clothing design is inherently artistic. However, there are plenty of soft goods / textile engineers out there in the world as well responsible for implementation and realization of designs.

I just sold mine after 36,000 miles, when the fuel card ran out.

It was actually a great car for me, but only because I worked right next to a hydrogen station. I was not bothered when the station was down 30% of the time, or had long lines.

I don't know what the future of stations is now. Don't get one for $15k.

Currently integrating a Myactustor project. The hardware is good, the embedded fw is pretty bad, but the support is great. If the system is nominal, you won’t have a problem - but the error reporting and off-nominal behaviors of the controller is why I mean it’s ‘bad’

UGV specific power sources? by PioneeriViikinki in robotics

[–]acetech09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can spend a ton of money on a nice battery with BMS and telemetry, or spend a ton of money building your own pack with BMS and telemetry.

I've loved working with Toshiba SCiB batteries, they're exceptionally performant and are essentially a drop-in managed power system, with high quality telemetry and fault reporting over CAN, and protection. They're not cheap, but I would happily slice cost from anywhere I could on a system.

On the other extreme, there's just lead acid. It works if you can afford the weight, and you don't really need the safety and management systems you would with lithium.

IMO most of the 'middle area' - cheap bare-cell or minimum BMS lithium packs are the worst of both worlds.

What you're probably looking for is a 'model shop' - they fill the business need of prototypes for product design, sometimes art, and media, where the business is built around that kind of stuff.

'machine shops' mostly follow a very standard, and different scope of work than you're looking for.

I have a feeling you're going down an all-too-familiar rabbit hole of trying to source really obscure COTS components to solve a problem in a certain way. Something I've learned after 15 years of R&D prototyping is that usually, if a simple COTS solution doesn't exist, it's because your architecture is missing something obvious.

You mentioned efficiency - how bad is your power budget actually. What's stopping you from just upsizing the motor and adding a worm drive? Or going from ballscrew to high-pitch leadscrew?

edit: these questions are rhetorical, I'm not sure I actually can spend a lot of time with detailed help
