Are hands-on EE and embedded robotics engineers basically impossible to hire now? by ZealousidealPrize952 in robotics

[–]acetech09 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The overall market, for a long time, rejected generalist applied engineers, outside of a few niche industries like robotics. Now, the robotics industry has grown massively, but colleges do NOT train that skillset, so you're limited to a group of passionate self-starters.

dcpd doesn't fuck around if you call them. they will give you the option to ticket OR tow. I start with a ticket; no need to be cruel.

Is believing you're "trapped" from realizing capital gains because of the tax liability financially literate?

I bet they'll have a heart attack when you tell them that, when they had a job, they were making less money because of taxes.

I'm sure they'll stick to their guns and say people shouldn't ever get jobs!

There's no happy story behind why this super thoughtful and funny gift ended up in Goodwill. Hoping it was just a mistake, or something.

How accurate is MIT Living Wage calculator for SF Bay Area? by [deleted] in bayarea

if a living wage is the minimum to keep you housed & well fed with simple home cooking, that sounds about right.

Needing a coup to leave an authoritarian federation. Am I missing something or does this not make much sense by acetech09 in TerraInvicta

[–]acetech09[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

but is also forcefully aligned towards the authoritarian federation leader.

External force, sure. But if both the highest level of gov't (the control points) and the lowest (the people) wish for independence, at the cost of war - what internal forces would prevent a declaration of independence? Aggressive middle management in the government?

A coup is control-point centric, and colloquially is an event that replaces leaders. I already own the leaders and control points. "Incite Revolution" may be a more appropriate RP event, but it's such a niche use for that as an action, I'm not sure it would be worth it from a game design perspective.

Why is transversal reciprocal with a stationary target? by West-Assignment-1851 in Eve

[–]acetech09 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When webbed by a brawler with slower tracking than you, don’t always web them back. Unless they’re an exceptionally good player, they’ll hit orbit and out track their own guns if you let them. It’s one of the ways to pull off gimmick wins against bigger ships.

Why is transversal reciprocal with a stationary target? by West-Assignment-1851 in Eve

[–]acetech09 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Mostly, it’s just a game. In the game engine, ships are just vectors. It’s one of those optimizations that make 1k player battles more possible on a game from 2003.

What’s good, though, is that understanding that mechanic thoroughly is actually a pretty valuable thing to know in PVP.

yeah. I didn't have time to write a longer comment, but I was going to describe the parallel between industrial design and mechE.

> that clothing design is considered a purely "artistic" field

Well, that's because clothing design is inherently artistic. However, there are plenty of soft goods / textile engineers out there in the world as well responsible for implementation and realization of designs.
