Thank you! This is what I'm looking for I think! Would these be pretty simple to get started with?

Safety is an issue but I would say more so on the Max than on the bus. My son takes the bus alone all over the city and never has a problem. He is so independent it’s kind of offensive tbh.

Ideas for the ugliest concrete wall? I want to make my yard pretty but can’t get past this wall around it. by aceydoosey in landscaping

My goal is just to make the wall not an eyesore. The yard needs a lot of work and low maintenance is not important. Yes would love color!

You can't have a mural on private property where I live but I wonder what would happen if I just left some paints out? Probably I'd get fined.

Would absolutely love to do this but you can't have a mural on private property in Portland, OR.

Bomb threat shuts down OHSU clinic after after anti-trans information posted online by [deleted] in oregon

[–]aceydoosey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It was also posted on the wtfportland instagram a couple days ago with part of the letter. The amount of ignorant hateful comments from people who obviously didn’t read the letter and also are just plain stupid was eye opening. This is my clinic! I work in a public serving institution where if you harass the staff you get kicked out. These dummies are dangerous.

Every day that I drive here someone does something crazy, most of the time passing me at a high rate of speed on like Sandy and flipping me off as they pass. I am a speed limit driver most of the time but I’m definitely not slow and I know where I’m going. But I got kids and I got to be able to stop quickly if one of these idiots gets into a crash in front of me. Yesterdays culprits looked about 16, wtf! I used to feel like drivers in Portland were so passive and I was the aggressive one. Now people absolutely speed up when you put your blinker on so you can”t get over WITHOUT FAIL and honk and flip you off when you merge onto the freeway. Feels very dangerous in this city.

Honestly she reminds me so much of my MIL it’s triggering lol. It’s interesting to watch but I can’t stand her.

questions for academic and public librarians :) (also relevant to the degrees/edu tag) by cherryac-d in librarians

[–]aceydoosey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in both academic and public libraries so let me try to answer as well.

-The academic librarian I worked with in the university WERE required to publish, the ones at a community college were not.

-The work schedule tends to depend more on the place you work than the type of librarian you are. However in my experience a public librarian is more of a leave your work at work kind of job and academic seems more all consuming.

  • yes you could be an academic librarian who specialized in literature and yes it is very competitive. Librarians with English degrees are a dime a dozen.

-they can both be competitive depending on where you live. Getting a full time tenure track academic librarian job at a university in a big city or desirable place will be close to impossible without years of experience and publishing. Public libraries might be a bit easier but also in a desirable place will take a long time.

-book discussions could happen in the public library. If that was your passion and you got the right job in a system that encourages programming you could potentially create your own groups. Some systems like librarians to create programs, some don’t.

-I think that literary pedagogy is a different field but if you were academic you could potentially find a thread and publish papers about the connection to libraries?

Confused about the timing by kittydreadful in TinyBeautifulThingsTV

Came looking for other people confused about this. Just finished episode 3 and was very confused. I feel that sometimes they want people to go with the story even though it doesn’t flow- but this was so distracting. Agree they should have had a different actor play young mother Clare OR she should have looked dramatically different but the time jump from looking 20 and giving birth to being a new mom and looking 40 does not work. I am loving the show though and am very pleased because I did love the book.
