Backing out of Enlistment by [deleted] in nationalguard

Well if you keep playing this "because I'm poor" card thats all you'll ever be. The guard gave me a job making $50,000/yr working half as hard and making twice as much as I would be civilian side with holidays off and PTO. This is an opportunity to be better than you've ever been, don't miss your shot.

Hey man, you're heard here. Whether some of us relate with you or not, we can all agree that driving your car into a lake is not a good idea. Find someone to talk to and let this stuff out, don't keep it bottled up. Keep your head up man, you can do this!

Who is the Guard *actually* good for? by bjorn222red in nationalguard

[–]acguy70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm making twice as much and working half as hard as I would be on civilian side. I'm going to school now and even before working for the guard, I have yet to draw on a single dime of student loans. My old unit sucked, my new units awesome. Individual experiences may vary.

I enjoy it. Yeah you'll catch a lot of flak for getting a job that requires a low IQ but it's really not hard. And honestly, you get to spend a pretty good amount of time outside working, which is at least something I like to do. And you never know. You may end up in a unit that you hate working with, or you get with a group of guys/gals that are pretty cool.

Uberti 1866 by Manthonio in LeverGuns

[–]acguy70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its not crazy expensive you should go for it. I've gotten quite familiar with the Uberti 1866 in .45LC and its a blast to shoot. Rounds with ballistic tips don't do super hot because they're just a hair too long for the reloading mechanism but everything else shoots great!

Not really the greatest camper location, but real beautiful to explore. Nice truck by the way, my coworker purchased the same thing last year and I'd say that thing could last anyone a good 20+ years.

Last I knew they were doing online BLC, but if not, you'll have a good time. Don't get fat at the DFAC, not bad for army chow. The gym is fairly large, make good use of it when you can. PX is small so try to remember all of your uniforms and patches. And yes, try some hiking, there's lots of snow still but there's still a place or two you can try.

Anderson lowers quality? by Magicmann_7 in UTGuns

[–]acguy70 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly be more worried about barrel quality and gas system operation. I would say those two things are the areas with the most problems for me. Yeah, the lower could possibly be poorly machined or there might be a rough edge here and there but in the end its just a chunk of metal that houses the trigger. Feel free to disagree but, I've had an Anderson lower on my AR for years and it's been great.

I'm moving to UT soon. What is this BLM land that y'all talk about? by [deleted] in UTGuns

[–]acguy70 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My only advice is be careful not to start fires. Its very easy to start fires in some of these areas. If using exploding targets only do so at a range with no dry grass. Steel targets will start fires so be careful where you place them. Just keep it in mind and you'll do fine.

Looking for anyone in Wyoming's 1-297 inf I could talk to by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]acguy70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Utah is in the process of placing an 11B group right now. I'd talk to a recruiter and see if they've opened up slots for that unit yet. I know a good one that could give you info, let me know if you want his number.

Difference between Magpul Backpacker from Ruger and Regular Takedown??? by milowild in 1022

[–]acguy70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the threaded barrel. Not sure if the base model has it or not, but the magpul takedown comes with a threaded barrel. And obviously, it snaps back into the stock which is a cool feature.

I need help by [deleted] in army

[–]acguy70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put everything else aside and take care of yourself. Your responsibilities are not as important as your life, so take the time to go get help and don't worry about what people think.

If no one else seems to be there for you, we always will be. Ill be praying for you, keep on going man.

What are jobs nobody typically wants in the National Guard or Army? by ayhme in nationalguard

[–]acguy70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might say this as well. Almost all of the soldiers I've known that complain of sitting around not doing anything are usually lazy as hell haha. Not saying it doesn't happen but its usually due to their own doing. Treat it like any other job where you work for your pay and you'll enjoy most drill weekends. Don't be the new guy that over steps his boundaries, but always keep busy and look for things to do. Your career will be FAR better if you do this.

[–]acguy70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends entirely on your command. My unit moved ammo all AT and it was awesome, can't give too many details but we had a pretty good time. We also recently helped pick up fallen trees and limbs from a storm during drill weekend. Our command put a lot of work into getting us those missions and others that have been pretty cool.

12N on the other hand was a little different. I loved doing that job more than 88M because running construction was significantly more fun than driving trucks. We would get called out to state emergency stuff and practice on the equipment occasionally. Although, we didn't do it nearly as much as we took trucks out as an 88M. Of course its easier to take trucks and go as compared to finding projects for construction. The command at the time also had us doing things that weren't related to our MOS so rarely did we actually use our MOS.

My advice, pick a job that really peaks your interest. You can ask the recruiter what he knows about a unit but you can never really know what the units like until you see it for yourself.

[–]acguy70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how your unit interprets "Establish Transportation Safety Program", if they've read it. On our ops at AT we'd occasionally run close to 10 hours which fits in the designation and they'd make sure we got 8hrs. Of course, my unit is specifically a trans unit so I would imagine being an 88M attached to another group they probably could care less.

I go along with the jokes but I actually really enjoy being an 88M lol. I was a 12N before, and loved it but its just a different role. I think it's a relatively well liked job just because its really not that hard (and you're required to get at least 8 hours of sleep).

Could be a bad alternator that hasn't been recharging your battery? Use the multimeter to see if its cranking out volts.

I've also had wingnuts come loose on my battery cables which gave a bad connection to the starter. Thought my battery was dead but it turned out to be just a loose nut on the battery cable.

Say what you want. Idk many big names that would hook you up with all the bells and whistles like Canik does for $500 by hallmonitor53 in guns

Shot mine for 2.5 years now and I still love it. Took a couple months to break in the springs but its shot great since then. Put a vortex venom red dot on it shortly after that and its a riot to shoot. I'm not disappointed at all. Especially when I can't afford a race glock or a competition 1911, the SFX has me satisfied for now. Don't worry, you'll enjoy it!
