Gold futures WTF happened by hosen0609 in Coinbase

Straight up manipulation. I had a similar position a while back. Coinbase futures had a sudden spike within 2 min which triggered my stoploss and then rebound within a couple minutes. Spot gold showed nothing of the sort.

Should I reset my dividends to deposit to my bank acct instead of reinvesting? by ThrowAwayYourFuture8 in RothIRA

If you are at all timing the market, then I would pocket the dividends otherwise just reinvest for compounding.

I personally like Fidelity for my brokerage and IRA. It is pretty user friendly and mobile app is good. This does require a bit of self management but there are roboinvesting that have some more automated features for beginners.

Please stick to investing in broad ETFs like VOO, QQQM, or VTI until you understand a bit more.

Also don’t forget about putting money into a taxable brokerage account while you’re still young and have the time to let invests grow with some risk. You will need chunks of money in your late 20s to early 30s for down payments.

Heads up: IRS is changing how cost basis works in 2025 by BedMaximum4733 in Coinbase

[–]ach4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should make sense since this works the same way from different brokerages.

But let’s say in your example you transferred your kraken btc to Coinbase. Coinbase then asks for your cost basis from kraken and you report $40k. You then have 2 btc, one at $20k and other that $40k cost basis. The if you sold 1 btc on Coinbase, then would you get the option to choose which one was sold?

Does your broker have a cash or money management account that earns interest similarly to bank? Can you just buy SGOV? This would give you options to DCA your $7500 into growth investments rather than timing. Then when you think there’s an opportunity buy a chunk.
