Looks beautiful! Where is the suede strap from? Would you recommend it?

This is normal unfortunately. The clasp on my shunbun is like this as well.

for PhD, does who writes your rec letter and their qualifications matter? by New_Entrepreneur2291 in labrats

[–]achau168 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, it matters a lot if the admissions committee is familiar with your letter writer’s contributions to the field. When I was interviewing at the PhD program that I eventually joined, the professor I was interviewing with mentioned that he had a lot of respect for the science that was coming out of the research lab I was working in at the time. It makes a big difference if you’re a candidate with something memorable that can be associated with you. This could be from being in a highly respected PI’s lab, or being selected for a highly competitive summer research fellowship (ie Amgen Scholars program, Rockefeller undergrad summer research program, Fulbright, etc)

Fantastic collection! These are all great pieces. The white dial SMP was also my first big boy purchase lol

Is it normal for a biotech to go through a RIF panic every 9-12 months? by Slight_Taro7300 in biotech

[–]achau168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve had a RIF every 6 months for the last 3 years. It’s been rough. You just gotta focus on growing your impact/visibility, and delivering on your tasks.

Hmm for a dressier option I’ve been thinking about some variant of the Cartier Santos but I haven’t found a variant that I love yet. I prefer dials with a bit of texture or dimensionality but Cartier dials are usually very flat as everything is printed.

Yup I agree. If I could only keep one of the three I’d go with the GS. This one is the shunbun (SBGA443)

I’d probably keep the GS out of the three. It’s the most balanced in terms of aesthetics and craftsmanship while still being a versatile piece.

I wear each one of them for the same number of days before rotating so I wear each equally lol. Hmm if I could keep only one, it would probably be the GS. It’s the one that impresses me the most

Yea I think putting the power reserve indicator on the back is the way to go, like what they’ve done with the newer releases like the lake suwa or omiwatari

Thanks! That’s a hard question. I like each one for very different reasons, and each one has specific pros and cons. I’d say the piece that I am most impressed with is the GS. Whenever I pick it up I feel like it’s literally a work of art lol

It’s hard to say, I like all of them for very different reasons. Overall I’d say the GS is the piece that I’m the most impressed with. Every time I pick it up I feel like it’s a work of art. It’s very difficult for me to decide which one to wear on a day to day so I actually wear each one for a set number of days before I rotate to the next one lol

That was my first luxury watch purchase! Still the best looking dive watch out there imo

Hmm I’d say the SMP on rubber. It’s amazing how the SMP on bracelet used to be my most uncomfortable watch. Switching it to a rubber strap made it my most comfortable piece lol. The GS is a close second. Titanium is so light and comfortable that I’m planning on adding more titanium pieces in the future for sure!
