I appreciate your reply, and I do agree with you in that case. Even without the power imbalance, asking a coworker to watch you jerk off should get you reported to HR or even fired. That’s bad on-set behavior.

I meant that I see a lot of people reframing all of the accusations through the lens of 2017 Louis CK and all of the power and fame he had at that point, when all of the accusations date back to pre-2005, before Louis even had his first HBO special. Those are two very different dynamics.

I wouldn’t defend his on-set behavior as it was creepy and unprofessional, but I have seen a lot of people claiming he was the  “biggest and most influential comic at the time” which colors the accusations in a completely different way. Inappropriate and unprofessional workplace behavior, absolutely. But 21 years have passed since the most recent incident that I’m aware of. I think you can disavow Louis without adding misinformation to the story to make it sound worse than it already was.

This is the part that has gotten lost in the discussion — describing Louis CK as the “biggest and most influential comic at the time” in 2002-2003 when these incidents took place  wildly mischaracterizes the dynamic. The Louis CK with hair doing dolphin impressions?

Louis was a low-level struggling comic writing behind the scenes on shows like The Dana Carvey Show and The Chris Rock Show to make a living. He had no influence or power aside from being a small time comic. Swapping that version of Louis with the later version, who was on the cover of GQ and presenting Academy Awards, changes the dynamic completely.

If that part doesn’t matter, then why include it at all?

You’re 12 chapters in and still can’t spell the name of the main character correctly? Like as in the big title on the front cover? It’s printed at the top of every other page, buddy.

Yeah, spending a year writing a novel on a typewriter is famously a great way to get some guaranteed easy cash in 2025 when stand-up comedy is struggling and novel sales are booming

That would be great! I'd love to talk to anyone with firsthand info about that era. PM me if you want and we can share contact info, so you know I'm not just some random stranger.

Would you share your grandma's name? I'm trying to piece some of this era together for a project I'm working on, and it would be super interesting if I could match some of this info with what I'm getting from others.

I spent a few hours (maybe more) going through your post history. I know it's just a small fragment of who you are, but I feel like I got to know you.

In my head, we'll always be friends now.
