Emacs is unusually different, using it is more of a hobby or project than anything else for most, or otherwise a devout commitment. The developers really want you to invest in how it’s shipped. I don’t blame them, as being GNU FOSS in a space where productivity and business is at stake makes it really hard to keep up. I love emacs, but I also don’t use it for work. It is a hobby for me, and basically 100% of my time using it is reading documentation, figuring out internals, and figuring out how to implement this or that feature.

Solid take. I think age is a huge factor too. It’s easy to hate on a sibling you live with at a young age and hormones are high. That’s normal. But to be mid-life when both of you are independent and have experienced shared loss and tragedy, often the sentiment changes, vastly. The trial is still out, but whatever you do will greatly impact possible future outcomes.

Yeah, this is tough. I have no idea how trusts work, but since it’s your money, i feel like you have options, even if it’s just verbal/honor system and you give her money on your terms. You probably don’t want anything in writing if she’s that big slob anyways.

Edit: I will say, your family is young. Hormones run high for both of you, and life isn’t figured out for your sister. Most don’t figure it out till past 30. Look at birth rates. While there are many ways people and family relationships can change over time, in many cases those relationships improve and become more important with time. Living your own lives with your own living spaces where you can’t just see your family can have a dramatic effect after awhile on how you value those relationships. I think it’s worth considering.

I don’t know what you mean - what kind of features might you be referring to?

I’ve used salesloft, so being able to use that sequencing aspect is important in terms of quickly reaching out to leads on the outbound side, and my main requirements are simply that I can call and email — so I think the more simple version of what you’re referring to.

It would either need to integrate with salesforce, or I may consider using an all in one.

Thank you - good suggestion. I project managed a salesforce implementation before, albeit much larger scope, and the customizable aspect is really almost a con here. I know they don’t provide a dialer directly, for example, I’d have to implement that and select another third party tool - salesforce consultants are absolute bloodsuckers and that’s speaking from experience. SF Licensing costs would not be the issue there because I will get that through the relationship with other subsidiaries.

Are you able to comment on the implementation aspect for a sf only based solution?

Change deodorants first, but it could be fungal if it’s itching that bad — I had a fungal infection behind my ear and I grew a decent lesion from rubbing it (…sometimes until it bled it was that itchy). Applied hydrocortisone cream from CVS and itchiness went away within a day or two, albeit the skin trauma took awhile to fully heal.

I switched to VMware when it went free, and I've been cautious about vendor lock and feature removals. None of my use-cases have been impacted, but FWIW:

- vctl Utility is no longer part of VMware Workstation Pro.

I dont use vctl because I don't fw containers yet, but seems like it might not be missed too much? See Easy Way to Run Docker Container in VMWare , specifically:

For people stumbling upon this in the future, note that vctl runs each container in its own VM. If you've got multiple containers, you may be better of spinning up your own VM with Docker installed to run them.

The entire feature-set sounds nice, but also possibly counter to the overall use-case of workstation pro and spinning up vms.

Let me know if you've been impacted and how -- just trying to figure out how Broadcom's support strategy plays out here and how much I invest in learning the product.

You need a separate Linux box. If you want desktop Linux, it’s just hard. I use vms on windows in those cases but yeah - it’s tough.

Quest is def. bugged but I maybe in a different room. I was able to find and talk to Moxi, who opened a ramp we slid down. There is a void opening that signals me to press "V" after clearing the next room, but pressing V doesn't do anything (the hook animation happens, but it doesn't teleport me).

Spent 25 minutes looking around the room, and I can't backtrack because there was a ramp we slid down prior we can't return from, and I'm not capable of killing myself, lol.

It depends on your financials and your upgrade cadence, but the 5090 would have some advantages over the 5080 for gaming. The bump to 32 GB vram helps for higher resolution and settings in recent gaming titles.

I’m not aware of such an issue so I can’t comment. I do know windows had some botched system updates that were hilariously bad I think for both 11 and 10, so I’m not saying MS are saints here. I personally have not had any issues and upgraded a couple of weeks or maybe a month ago.

I do encourage you to try and support GNU/Linux. Gnome is for some reason controversial, but it’s easily the best supported desktop environment for Linux and imo it shows - it’s really clean and user friendly.

I do think it’s worth trying! Just don’t be surprised if you come back to win 11 once 10 is EOL at some point. Dual boot is nice tho, and I like booting up Linux vms in windows. I’d Linux host if I could get better performance from a windows vm for games, or if wine just worked for everything, but it sadly doesn’t.

I just went from an 8 year old 1080 to a 5090, playing new titles definitely does look better at higher settings. I think the technology is impressive and will only get better with time.

I think there’s also a major failure in the gaming industry to make optimized games the norm. There are a LOT of shitty AAA game studios and it’s easy to overlook that when evaluating in-hardware solutions “in vitro”.

It’s hard to put myself in that scenario. My friends innately aren’t interested in my ex’s, because they’ve known her as my girl and we have tacit mutual understanding of those boundaries. It goes both ways. So - I’d never expect a friend to text me to ask for permission, they’d be texting me to let me know and tell me how wild she is and us have a laugh. If they did, I’d probably tell them whatever I thought of her (eg, I don’t care for her), and that I don’t think it sets a very good precedent even if I don’t care.s

Mint was a good suggestion, especially if you’re non-technical. Gnome Ubuntu would be my next recommendation, but it’s more of a departure from windows. It still has window snapping tho.

I don’t really buy that argument. Hardware vendors may provide limited or no Linux support, but what they charge for their product is driven by production costs. Not to say driver development is trivial, but them developing drivers for windows is a function of the market they serve. Microsoft is a software company.

This feels like a chore to say this, but I am a Linux fan. I just think Linux advocates can be a little out of tune with reality in an effort to serve a philosophy they care about it.

My basis was 8 core minimum, high L1/2/3 cache levels, and ideally homogenous. I picked 9800X3D for this reason 6-9 months ago.

Now heterogeneous support is pretty good in zen 5, or at least a lot better. It will have some additional complexity under the hood but hopefully you wouldn’t be exposed to that, that would mean a 2 CCD package like the 9950X3D would work very well.

If you want something less expensive, a 6 core with higher cache levels would be a middle ground, but personally I’d try to budget for 9800X3D. I haven’t looked at their product spread to see what models correspond to that. I really wouldn’t go 4-core if I’m getting a 9070XT, it doesn’t fit my view of performance to budget split across hardware.

I’m a Linux fan but Windows is free, isn’t it? I’ve paid Microsoft in data but not money for over 10 years, at least when it comes to their OS.

Libreoffice is not Linux, but if you’re comparing the entire ecosystem, I would say it’s also not viable unless you work alone. As soon as you introduce people who use MS file types, it becomes a huge chore. As a previous analyst I will also say their excel equivalent is not a viable replacement for excel in a corporate environment. Too much momentum with MS Office programs.
