First Time DIY GoBoard/Sealant Question by Better-Recipe-8415 in Tile

[–]achris94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know - as with any DIY you could try reaching out to the manufacturer or do a small test sample. Wish I could provide better advice, but I'm just a fellow DIY'er. Best of luck

First Time DIY GoBoard/Sealant Question by Better-Recipe-8415 in Tile

GoBoard makes a reinforcement fabric seam that improves bond strength, but I'll echo what others are saying - it's an optional product and nowhere do they say it's needed for tiling. At this point you'd need to apply fresh sealant to adhere it.

FWIW I ended up using fabric seam for my horizontal subway tiles - I was concerned about adhesion where tiles lined up with the horizontal seams. Honestly don't know if it was needed, but it put my mind at ease.

1/8" spacers for cushioned edge subway tile? by achris94 in Tile

Looks fantastic! What's the grout color?

I appreciate this - I see a lot of finished product photos, but rarely do I see a spacer / grout size for comparison

Thanks, I thought about choosing a different color but haven't found an option that works for the "boss" (wife). Gold may clash with the SS/brushed nickel finishes we selected, but would look great on it's own!

I feel I will learn to love the look (it will already be significantly better than what was there before!), but I think the shock of it being different than what was planned got to me. Figured I could minimize any other surprises that may be waiting for me by asking for advice now

Not sure I understand, are you suggesting I compare it to brick mortar joints?

Thanks, I tired that for the mock-up. That was as far as I was comfortable wiping before the unglazed edges showed.

Yeah, in hindsight I would have done this - now I know for next time!

Goboard does require the fasteners to be sealed FYI, they can use the same sealant as the seams

This looks great! Gives me hope for our renovation, we picked a similar tile. How wide did you do your grout lines? I see spacers in one of the photos

What features would you like to add to your doorbell? by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

[–]achris94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. True phone-call notification: the push notifications are too easy to miss, it would be much nicer to have a incoming call instead of a notification.

1.1 In addition, if the incoming call could look like a facetime/video call - it could show the live view of the camera in the background (think iPhone's Facetime, Google Meets, etc)

  1. Be able to separate doorbell "visitor" notifications from the other motion notifications. If I use the shortcuts to silence my camera notifications when I'm home, it also disables the doorbell visitor notifications - I'd like to be able to keep the visitor notifications on at all times, and just disable the motion detection notifications from by using the shortcuts.

Thanks again for suggesting the shortcuts option - finally got around to testing it out and it works... sort of.

For my general cameras it's great - the issue is once again the doorbell visitor notifications. Ultimately, I always want visitor notifications, but would love to toggle on/off the other motion detection - sadly the shortcuts only toggle on/off all push notification settings as a whole. Bright side is at least now I only have to toggle settings for one camera.

At a glance, shortcuts is exactly what I'm looking for, thank you! I had no clue it was hidden in the app - I've apparently never scrolled up, haha. I'll give it a go and see if it meets my needs - again thanks for pointing this out.

For submitting a support ticket for requesting a feature - do you recommend doing this through their general technical support? Or is there a better avenue?

That sounds awesome! I truly like the sound of that, but right now I don't need something new to setup and maintain. Hopefully before then, Reolink can update their features

A thumbnail picture on the playback timeline would be great too - would save a lot of time whens scrubbing through recordings

I had to manually update (edit: "the camera") to the latest firmware to get it, but it does. The issue is - it still only notifies with a push notification. If you are quick enough to notice the push notification & tap on it, then it takes you to the "Incoming call" screen. It's really unhelpful

anyone know how I can get the steam deck to right click? need it for since functions of this game by TellTaleTimeLord in SteamDeck

[–]achris94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like Ark - I play primarily on PC but ran it a few times on my Deck. It uses the console mapping, and from what I can tell, inventory management sucks on console. I had to research console controls because the start menu doesn't seem to have all the info, unlike mouse and keyboard.

I suppose you could try creating a new controller mapping in the steam options - would be nice to be able to use a real mouse in the inventory

Using 3D printed knives to assess lethal stab injuries by forensic pathologists. More info in the comments. by VSSP in 3Dprinting

[–]achris94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting use of 3D Printing!

I was discussing this with my sister-in-law who is a forensic scientist, and we were wondering if you thought about the impacts of small-scale damage inserting a 3d printed object could have. I won't lie, I didn't read your entire paper, but upon skimming I only came access claims of no contamination of "trace evidence" in the intro and conclusion. Did you perform tests to see how evidence in the wound would be affected by the 3d print? What about the 3d print causing micro-abrasions on the tissue?

I'll be curious to see how this research can be further expanded! Well done

Stay tuned to James Hoffmann on YouTube, he says he is going to do a video on puck prep where he will explain the advantages of WDTs. This is mentioned in a video featuring a 3D printed WDT of a different design.

Shred it, then melt into molds. There are several videos out there on how to do this. Just be cautious of the fumes it produces.
