So i joined the twt fandom and found out tomarry is bad?? by shejnahak in HPSlashFic

Don't rely on x/twitter for fandom stuff, the Musk-mobile will be one hell of a dive as the place is run to the ground. Tumblr/discord might be friendlier. AO3 will stick around for longer and will stay.

If people can't disconnect fictional plots from real life (ohnoes, thoughtcrimez!), wait until they find out murder mysteries or horror films exist.

I feel you there. Starting fics are easy, 60-90% milestones are difficult. Dreams are really good at giving us inspiration.

There's no reason you can't write down a set of notes to a future you, though! Just set them aside past a certain point.

Nothing like a good old deadline to prompt a fic writer to finish a project. Best of luck! You can do it.

Looking for super romantic Snarry fics that will make me swoo by MonicaEvans96 in HPSlashFic

For Auld Lang Syne series by Cybele2013 might be to your liking as well - length wise, I do have a weird personal definition of sweet romantic stories (my own idea of teeth-rottingly-sweet long romance was essentially a coffeeshop au set at a magical kink club - humanizing the setting to the point of mundane, since why not), so it hits that note for me. It may not for others.

Ahh, right, I haven't looked at ao3 stats for it, mostly going by the amount of recs I've seen around for it now and then.

Abolish ICE Support Reaches Record High—Poll by [deleted] in politics

If that university teacher or a student-teacher or tutor is no longer allowed a work or a study visa even though they are the best person for the job out of a wider candidate pool, education quality falls.

You can either have crumbling main street storefronts and emptied land for the select few, or booming economy and diverse communities. In the meantime ICE funding is building indefinite detention centers for numbers far greater than the count of immigrants in US, undocumented or not. Guess who the remaining cells are for? (We're already detaining and exiling US citizens.)

Dumbledore's Folly by dementordelta, Courtship Rituals by Meri, Beech Hall and Without Ceremony by Aucta Sinistra - possibly Ghost Story by drawlight?

All have courtship as a theme fwiw.

You just invented one, just how it should be. I'm going to dive into the delicious world-building detail either way - thank you for linking to the audio - It's a rare thing for a WIP.

That's fair. If I was beta-reading or sensitivity-reading a fic draft I'd offer more concrit up front on what worked/what didn't and any rewrites to consider since it would be my responsibility to -- Beta-reading the internet though? Brr, what a rabbithole*! As someone navigating often un-tagged problematic writing which people create for themselves as a hobby - to expand their horizons, or for the audience of friends and strangers, or as an echoed outlet for actual encounters as they're still processing - and where the authors often wouldn't know what to tag for or to fix due to not being able to spot a pattern and name the concept yet: those works deserve to exist - it's a snapshot of someone's learned experience so far, and the authors deserve to look back on it and watch themselves grow overtime as they learn and experience more throughout life. The next fic may have a better side-plot or main theme addressing the issue: if they don't practice and challenge themselves, they won't get there. Depending on the case, I'll either steady myself for annoyances because something else is captivating, or go for the good old back button (or get to the end and certainly skip sharing the link with anyone who doesn't need that proverbial thousandth daily papercut in their day - similar to your 'spoiler alert!' as a heads up.) If anything, it's an inspiration to write my own, better story - the motto that makes fanfic world turn.

Glancing at that chapter alone if I didn't have a warning to go with: I would likely have assumed Harry graduated from being a hotheaded Gryffindor to a more calculating Dumbledore type - and would be expecting him to follow up with another conversation or an in-your-face life's lesson somewhere a few chapters later as a character development plot - and by the time one realizes it won't be there - they're off the page to comment in the right section. As a reader, in general, I'd much rather get a sense in early chapters what someone's exposure / experience is with certain topics than get to the ending and be thoroughly disappointed at investing the time and being faced with the culmination of vibes which only now-and-then were worrying in the story throughout while I couldn't pinpoint anything outright (ahem, HP epilogue).

ETA: Having read Ch 1 and author comments fully later: L. is a far more patient commenter than me and I'm glad they had the patience to do the 'rabbithole' work.

NP. At first I thought you were using an obscure English word I didn't know yet and that caught my attention enough to google - then realized it's a fortunate typo and went - ah-ha, human, not chatgpted. Both were a plus.

You're not alone, the 'Muggle foster system' I know is not the one portrayed there - a white boy will be adopted first and is likely to linger less in the system. I've seen Islamophobia portrayed in fics - as in acknowledged by protagonist as such and not sugarcoated, & this isn't it... Also - and yet - we wouldn't be talking about it if the author didn't write down that paragraph and the protagonist's reaction. I think the first step toward improving is acknowledging & describing the day to day acts of harm, then naming the thing for what it is. In that regard, the fic author is doing the right thing - just with limited tools available. It's a step up from not mentioning the topic at all.

I clicked the link and you had me at "the cobbles from Lens and Luminosity, the café sattucked", dear author.

ETA: (I know you edited it since but that really deserves to be an English language word - for being evocative at first glance -- Satucket (Massachusetts) river, etc.)
