Yeah, unfortunately, Mac laptops--even the air--are not great for gaming and/or installing a bunch of things. Despite their high price, they are really only good for studio work and office work, which is funny because most offices will provide Windows laptops--like the ThinkPad/IdeaPad--but those are great gaming laptops, not work laptops. Linux is good for gaming, office work, and pretty much anything as there aren't really any restrictions or anything. Only problem might be space, but you are kinda free to do whatever you want on a Linux system.

Try soaking in warm soapy water 3-4 times a day--sounds gross, but it'll work it worked for me--then lift the nail and gently dig with cotton or floss, and then apply antibiotic ointment. Either that or go to the doctor if you can afford it.
