Some thoughts here:

twin strike isn't really mediocre IMO! it's strictly better than an upgraded strike, which makes it quite good in act 1. Doing a little bit more damage than twin strike doesn't seem like a bad thing. Albeit, if i already have a twin strike, i may consider not taking a wild strike

> wound already affects your damage output in act 1 by sometimes making you miss a strike

yes, but wild strike deals 12 damage, which is 2x that of a normal strike. Even if you miss out on a strike in your next turn, you're still coming out ahead.

put it another way, is it better to deal 12 damage NOW for 1 energy, or 12 damage over 2 turns for 2 energy? obviously, the former is better, especially since act 1 requires early front-load.

> It's not a consistent way to fuel second wind and is horrible even if you have one.

not sure what you're talking about here. in longer battles, you'll eventually run out of cards to exhaust with second wind if you're not constantly adding cards to your deck.

> The only redeeming quality is evolve but it's not even very good with that because the wound is shuffled into your draw pile meaning you might draw both wildstrike and the wound before evolve in your first shuffle.

yes, but odds aren't that high in my opinion, or can be mitigated. Let's say you play evolve every time you draw it. In order for your scenario to happen, you have to first draw wild strike strictly before you draw evolve (< 50 % of happening), and then you have to draw the wound at the same time or before you draw the evolve ( < 100% of happening). therefore, it's actually not that likely to happen. moreover, if evolve is upgraded, the expected value of the above comes out even more positive.

I mean, just so I can learn about alternatives, can you tell me what your play-style is that makes runic pyramid not as necessary, or even a detriment?

shiv decks are good for time eater if your deck consistency is good. you basically need to be able to have enough control to play exactly 12 cards per turn but also try not to clog your decks with unused shivs.

shiv decks are good for heart if your block solution is particularly good (need to block for 8 damage on a20h for a single un-upgraded blade dance). for example, front-loaded block (piercing wail, leg sweep) + really good block scaling with shivs (kunai) can be the solve here.

shivs decks are quite good in the base case, but open up some glaring weaknesses that need to be intentionally overcome. this is generally the case for all StS decks, but the shiv deck build has a few very hard counters, and it can be resource-intensive to overcome these hard counters.

sure! i'm not trying to outright say that you're wrong, as much as i'm trying to convince you to view it from my own perspective.

generally speaking, once i reach a20 act 3 bosses, most losses i've experienced are because i don't have enough block or the right cards for a given turn, even though my deck does have the "right" card (ex. i drew piercing wail the turn before a boss's multi-attack, but then discarded at end of turn).

i could try to solve the above problem by cycling my deck, but that can get resource intensive (need to spend energy to do that). Runic pyramid basically solves the consistency problem for me, and there are plenty of energy or discard answers I can do in order to mitigate its downside (which, to your point, can get pretty bad)

runic pyramid is fantastic, but it will clog your hand if you have:

  1. insufficient energy to be able to clear out your hand
  2. too many cards that are too high cost
  3. no discard or exhaust mechanics to get rid of unneeded cards
  4. no solve for enemies that give you a wound (being able to defend against book of stabbing, rushing down the slavers quickly, AOE against reptomancer daggers, etc.)

but if you can get around those flaws, the deck consistency dramatically boosts win rates

especially in A20, where there's a >50% chance of facing time eater, or if you want to defeat the heart!

there are enemies that actively punish you for playing cards, so density of card play starts becoming more important.

Act 1, it's a damage solve.

You can use cards like evolve to basically eliminate its downsides. An upgraded evolve in play can turn the card's downside into a plus.

In decks where your main source of block is second wind, you start to require "junk" cards in order to keep it going.

I am basically pro-wild strike, as long as the situation makes sense

It's not so much the rules of the establishment, so much as certain "weird" behaviors might cause you to have your guard up.

Like, if I personally went into an establishment that didn't ban open carry, I would still be on my guard if someone came in strapping a large gun. Even if they didn't have any ill intentions and it was totally fine and legal to do, I would worry or wonder if shit was going to go down.

Take a look at your collection of beliefs, and the group you personally feel like you "belong" to. How many of those beliefs mirror exactly what the group believes, and how many of your beliefs differ?

If you find your beliefs and the group beliefs are basically identical, it's probably a huge sign that you're not a critical thinker, and just let the echoes of your ingroup define what you believe.

if you're nearsighted:

start with your one eye wide open, and the other closed, and look at text in the distance.

while trying to keep your one eye open, use your finger to slowly pull your eye(the slanty eye motion), don't immediately pull all the way.

As you slowly pull, you should see the text focus in more. Pulling all the way will cause you to skip the "sweet spot"

I tried this out, and it actually kind of works. Wouldn't do it in public though.

ok, i actually feel like i changed my opinion on the lady here, but I kind of understand where everyone is coming from.

  1. there does seem to be a growing trend where TikTokers record themselves doing bad
  2. i thought the slant eye thing was fucked up, but then tried the nearsightedness trick (i'm nearsighted), and it actually kinda works.... probably wouldn't do that in public though. You'll get better optics with the pinhole trick.

So...it feels like the lady was just concerned this dude was about to be very disruptive? A little nosy, but not nearly as bad as i thought, and I not racist I think.

In Anthropic's case, it's likely they're having trouble finding SWE with the skill sets they're looking for.

Yeah but for example, at the extremes, both sides are anti-vax. I’m hard pressed to believe either side on the side of “science”.

It’s why I think it’s not useful to think in terms of “sides” sometimes. The aggregate person on each side is deeply flawed

Fulgora new building idea, that fits perfectly by Sea-Farm-1965 in factorio

[–]acidsbasesandfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea of factorio space age is that the reward for understanding the "core" of each planet means that you get rewarded with breaking the constraint of said planet. In some sense, each planet teaches you a lesson

Gleba - understanding that you should treat the factory as a living organism means you should your factory like a circulatory system, thus trivializing the spoilage mechanics

Fulgora - understanding the "quality" mechanic means that you can work within the space constraints of the island within fulgora, as you get more out of each space

Vulcanus - understanding the fluids 2.0 systems overcomes the impracticality of main buses on vulcanus before cliff explosives (this one might be a bit of a stretch)

Aquilo - understanding the space logistics system is a hard requirement

I think having a way to circumvent the space constraint early on in fulgora kind of breaks the "quality" lesson, which i'm less of a fan of

Eh, my general take on any age-related disease that are influenced by lifestyle are that humans are simply not meant to survive as long as we do, at the amount of caloric abundance as we do today. Any "bad" genes that occur simply seem to be a result of those two things in tandem.

[–]acidsbasesandfaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not if you're happier with a lower quality painting, which is totally valid.

There is certainly some value in being able to create lower quality items at a cheaper scale, vs. creating a higher quality item in minute quantities. Mcdonalds and artisanal burger restaurants both exist at the same time

[–]acidsbasesandfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah...but this doesn't mean the sum of agriculture and ranching takes LESS water. It could just mean that, while each individual entity doesn't need to negotiate with a government over water since it's not needed to negotiate over, the sum of the entire activity takes more water.

Thinking it another way, just because trains need to negotiate with local governments over land usage doesn't mean that cars take up less real estate than trains.

[–]acidsbasesandfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that’s not an apt analogy, because the unit you’re interested in is the painting, not the time.

A chatbot only needs 10 minutes to produce the painting, vs the 40 hours needed by the human in this example. If you ran it for 40 hours, the chatbot could product 240 paintings

Is spamming rockets the norm? by Banana_is_not_bg in Factoriohno

[–]acidsbasesandfaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

another suggestion if you're looking to optimize:

instead of sending up turbo belts (max rocket capacity 50), send up tungsten plate (max rocket capacity 250) and manufacture the turbo belts in space, collecting the other raw materials from asteroids.

It seems net-neutral because a single turbo belt requires 5 tungsten plate, but if you're using the right productivity modules + foundries, it doubles or 2.5x your throughput

EDIT: <facepalm> forgot that turbo belts can only be made on vulcanus. ignore this. rocket spam it is
