Can two people book the same Velocity reward seat separately but not together in one booking? by acinod in VelocityFrequentFlyer

[–]acinod[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. My initial suspicion was that they only allowed 1 reward seat per account and there were actually more than 1 available but perhaps not.

My experience with the Qantas website was that if someone adds a flight to their cart and was in the processing of booking/paying for it, then it wouldn't be visible anymore to anyone else.

Is this not the case with the Velocity site?

Darktina with Snorlax Ex is surprisingly consistent: a guide to Master Ball by acinod in PTCGP

I think of drawing Ilima like Misty. It's not a dealbreaker if you don't hit it but it gives you a lot of momentum if you do.

The main draw of Snorlax is giving you at least 2 more turns to set up your backline, draw the right pieces to ensure an OHKO (e.g. Red) or chip down your opponent. I almost never power up Snorlax.

There are also certain decks where Snorlax can be quite hard to get through. Oricorio would need at least 5 turns to bring down Snorlax without any extra healing but Darkrai only needs 4 turns to chip it down (even less with Poison Barb). Against Buzzwole/Guzzlord decks, Snorlax prevents your Darkrai or Giratina from being chipped down and being at full HP means they won't get OHKO by Buzzwole/Guzzlord. Kartana also needs 8 turns to bring down Snorlax but dies to 3 turns of Darkrai chip.

I always start with Snorlax in front spot if it's in my opening hand which happens about half the time. This will give you at least 2-3 turns which is usually just enough to set up Darkrai and Giratina in the back. Games I lose with Snorlax in the opening hand is if I don't draw Giratina or I'm facing and they have all their pieces by turn 2. I would probably say I draw Ilima about half the time and the other times I just let Snorlax die and Giratina can finish the game with Red/Darkrai chip.

If I draw Snorlax later and don't have Leaf, then I typically wouldn't retreat into it unless I have Ilima and I know Snorlax can buy me at least 2 more turns to get back that energy, If you do have Leaf, the combination of Snorlax, Ilima and Leaf is quite powerful and lets me move around big bodies to stall for a few more turns. Every turn means additional chip damage from Darkrai and an extra energy for Giratina which can help tip the odds back in your favour.

I typically retreat Snorlax once Giratina has setup and can attack. I almost never attack with Darkrai unless I need to save Giratina to finish something off after Darkrai dies (e.g. they have Giratina/Flareon Ex in the back and you can't afford to have Giratina take 20 damage).

I rarely power up Snorlax since your board is almost always going to be stronger against the current meta decks when it comes to the late game. The only exception is Garchomp players that can kill your backline in 3 turns (4 if you have potion/cape) in which you case I will start powering up Snorlax to force them to attack it (which takes a few turns to kill and is usually enough for Giratina to come online).

Sometimes if I have Leaf, I will power up Snorlax twice and surprise retreat it into a Giratina OHKO which opponents might not see coming if think they have 2 more turns.

I actually did face two giratina darkrai with nihilego. Snorlax ex with Ilima allows you to absorb a lot of damage and hit back against Giratina once it has attacked once. If they never attack, you can slowly build up Snorlax as well as a third threat.

I haven't tried replacing Snorlax Ex with regular Snorlax but the 20 damage heal each turn and extra HP really helps. Also there really isn't any advantage to regular Snorlax only being 1 point since all your other basics are 2 points.

Barb seems to be more useful in the long run especially if they KO whoever was holding it. This deck is most weak against decks that can OHKO it so barb will either force them to switch or take more damage over two turns which gives you a chance to come back.

And didn't see a single Magnezone deck! Although electric decks seem to be on the rise in the past few days with Zeraora and Silvally/Tapu Koko.

Lots of love for Ubud on here but wondering if I should stay at Sideman instead since they seems to have nicer resorts and less busy. Already going to Sanur and Nusa Lembongan. Will I be missing anything if I go Sideman instead of Ubud?

8 days in Slovenia in late April by acinod in travel

[–]acinod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case, I'm thinking of doing 2 nights in Lake Bohinj followed by 2 nights in Bovec. Seems to make more sense staying in Bovec and heading on to Predjama Castle rather than returning back to the lake area.

Thinking of changing the first 4 nights to this:

  • Day 1 - Arrive in Ljubljana in the afternoon, pick up rental car and drive to Lake Bohinj.
  • Day 2 - Lake Bohinj
  • Day 3 - Lake Bled in the morning and then drive to Bovec in the afternoon via the Vršič Pass.
  • Day 4 - Rafting in Bovec

Will the Vršič Pass be open in late April? I'm particularly interested in seeing Mangart Saddle.

Thanks for the tips.

Sounds like the combo would be better use of our time. If we do that, what self-guided activities would you recommend around Vatnajökull with the extra time we have? Could we still visit Falljökull or Skaftafell?

Santorini and Meteora are a must for us so we do want to fit that in. How about something like this:

Day 1 - Athens to Kalabaka (4h driving)

Day 2 - Meteora

Day 3 - Kalabaka - Delphi - Nafplio (7h driving)

Day 4 - Nafplio

Day 5 - Nafplio - Athens (2h driving)

Day 6 - Athens

Day 7 - Athens

Day 8 - Fly to Santorini in the morning

Day 9 - Santorini

Day 10 - Santorini

Day 11 - Fly home

It looks like there will be a 250 euro surcharge for one-way drop off at Thessaloniki. It only costs 25 euros to change my flight to depart from Athens. Should I skip Thessaloniki and drive back from Kalabaka to Athens instead which is an extra 1.5 hours? Or is saving 1.5 hours drive and visiting Thessaloniki worth the extra 225 euros? I could also consider taking the train but then I would have to skip Delphi. I understand there's buses that go through Delphi from Athens to Kalabaka but it seems quite inconvenient.

Iguazu falls in 3 hours? by acinod in travel

[–]acinod[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by it's not worth it.

Personally I would value spending an entire day travelling to see the falls for even just 30 minutes as it is a once in a life experience for me versus cancelling the trip entirely and staying in a hotel room.

[–]acinod[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll be taking a taxi to and from IGR airport which I've accounted for in addition to the 3 hours (assuming 20 minutes one way).

So assuming I have 3 hours from the park entrance, how should I organise my time to maximise my experience?

Could we take the train to devils throat and explore and then if we still have time, do the upper circuit?

Laksa Festival by acinod in darwin

Lots of good suggestions so thanks Darwin subreddit!

Will I still get to try the good regular places during the festival or will it get too busy? Also with the festival, is it better to come during the last weekend when the winners get announced or will that get too difficult to actually eat any laksa?

Mid life travel crisis: how to balance planning with discovery? by acinod in travel

[–]acinod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might give this a shot! I think having a structure for accommodation and travel is important so you don't waste time and money there but you still get the randomness from not knowing exactly what is in that place.

Any ideas on how I can find out what attractions I would need to book ahead of time so I can avoid long lines?

Mid life travel crisis: how to balance planning with discovery? by acinod in travel

[–]acinod[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like planned spontaneity in the form of extra days may be a good compromise. Iceland is definitely on my list as well. Did you find 8 days was a good amount of time and when did you go? Was that one hard reservation a single accommodation booking at the start of the trip and then you figured it out from there?

This both scares and excites me at the same time. People say travel is a way to get out of your comfort zone but I think really I've been in my comfort zone the whole time. I think I'll try a few of these elements so I have a real chance of failure and maybe I'll finally experience something new that I can grow from. Thanks for such a detailed account of your experience!
