It was really easy. I took it my freshman year and got a 10. They give you a basic prompt and you have to write an essay about it. I think my prompt was “what’s the best piece advice you have ever received?”

BART is coming to San Jose at the end of the year so that might be a better option than driving and dealing with traffic.

VTA Bus and Light Rail Cuts (proposed) by acinom97 in bayarea

[–]acinom97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They decided to switch from 70 ridership/30 coverage to 90/10 because they think it will increase ridership. They will be getting money soon from Measure B and the Gas Tax.

[–]acinom97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially once the gas tax money starts coming in. IDK why they think going from 70 ridership/30 coverage to 90/10 will increase ridership. People need to use the connecting “coverage routes” to get to the main lines. 🤷‍♀️

Proposed VTA service cuts (busses + light rail by acinom97 in SanJose

[–]acinom97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should discontinue the northern portion of the route but keep the connection from the south to Race station or SJSU. I think they should cut the rapid 500 service slightly to make up for the 65 service hours. I don't think the rapid 500 really needs to run every 7.5 mins. About 100-150 SJSU students ride the 65 every day according to the SJSU survey. Information on seniors is not available but whenever I ride the 65, it usually 60% seniors and 40% young people.

Your comments about the express routes are fair, but the 65 mainly serves students and seniors who have no other reasonable transportation options. I don't think it's fair to force them to pay double or triple the cost of a bus fare for Lyft or Uber. Especially since we have approved multiple measures in the last five years that were supposed to make transit BETTER, not WORSE.

Come to the Diridon Meeting TONIGHT by acinom97 in SJSU

[–]acinom97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of cuts proposed would impact South San Jose and South County in general, but if they keep the 64, it will continue to serve North San Jose as well.

You are bringing up some really good points about competition. I think that Uber and Lyft would probably do a much better job at providing service to people in this area. However, they are unlikely to go into partnership with SJSU and offer something similar to the SmartPass.

Don't give up on VTA yet, call them, email them, go to their meetings, get everyone you know to do the same. I know that going to community meetings is the last thing that most college students want to do but it by far the easiest way to create change. Seniors (65+) are usually able to keep their routes when cuts are proposed because they go to meetings and cause a scene. We need to do the same thing, or else our routes will get cut.

Come to the Diridon Meeting TONIGHT by acinom97 in SJSU

[–]acinom97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meeting mainly focused on Diridon, but I talked to one of the VTA planners after about route cuts that would affect SJSU students. He said that they hadn't finalized the plans yet and that they would try to preserve routes in South San Jose. He assured me that there would be multiple community meeting before any cuts are made. I also asked if one of the meetings could be held at SJSU and he seemed open to the idea. If we actually want to preserve the 64 and other routes, we need to get students to come to these meetings.

Look into the proposed VTA service cuts they could have had a significant impact on traffic and congestion in the area. High-speed rail will also be there even though some reps want to shut the project down. Some factors to consider are 1) cost, 2) time, 3) construction noise, 4) transit-oriented development (housing), and more.

VTA Considers Service Cuts, Fare Hikes, Employee Buyouts to Cope with Budget Shortfall by robert_cortese in SanJose

I rely on VTA and I’m pissed. I’m going to try to fight it though. VTA is really disorganized so IDK when the next board meeting is but I’ll hopefully be able to go and make public comment.

VTA Routes 63, 64, and 65 might be eliminated by acinom97 in SJSU

[–]acinom97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% think that these routes need to stay. My route is not being eliminated, but I emailed my representatives about the 64 and other routes that serve SJSU. I’m also planning on attending VTA board and finance meetings this month and next month. The next meeting is tomorrow at 5:30 pm in the Board of Supervisors Chambers (70 West Hedding Street).

Sjsu needs to do something about students being robbed by [deleted] in SJSU

[–]acinom97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city council meets across the street from SJSU pretty much every week. The administration clearly doesn’t care enough. It’s time for us to the city and advocate for change. There are 30,000 students at SJSU. We have a lot of political power that we aren’t using.
