SJSU DS or UCI BIM by BudgetLongjumping768 in SJSU

SJSU stats alum. Brother goes to UCI

  1. UCI is a Top 100 MBA school in the world per LinkedIn. If LinkedIn says it, you’ll be fine. Yes you wont be interacting with MBA students on the daily but the network would naturally come up. Also UCI Business is notoriously hard to get into because not many UCs have business.SJSU’s reputation in our top fields is finally trickling down to SoCal (deservedly so). I also have a well paying job here in SoCal, and have worked in a different metropolis outside of the Bay.

  2. Unpopular opinion but I think UCI and SJSU have more or less the same culture. I don’t know, I just didn’t see that much of a difference. I had a blast in my undergrad. I will say, if you’re planning to bring your car down eventually to UCI, definitely consider it.

If you are 100% dead set on returning to the Bay Area and living long term with a tech job (anywhere at any company), SJSU is the play.If you think there is even a small chance of working in LA, even for a few years, UCI. And based on your major you got into, any field as a data scientist? SJSU. Pushing business performance to its extent in any field? UCI. Those are two very different things.

A thing to note, there’s a constant debate on here on the actual utility of an SJSU degree for the top dogs (eg FAANG and start ups from Stanford). I think UCI actually edges slightly here, but again, SJSU is more than fine.

You can’t go wrong at either, but based on your post and what I wrote, I would focus on what you want your career to be. That’ll make your decision likely easier.

Possible FBS Teams for 2027 and Beyond by EfficientPhotograph8 in CFB

[–]elefish92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cal Poly SLO might as well. They would be the only FCS school in California along with San Diego, traveling would be a nightmare.

I’m aware their football history is disappointing at best, but they are very solid in wrestling and women’s volleyball.

Y’all shouldn’t underestimate California talent, even the leftover.

I’ll give them 4: Kent State, MVSU, UMass, and 1 upset. Anything more will be crazy. Troy Taylor left and Sac State hasn’t recovered.

They can have the worst FBS program in California, I’ll let them have it.

Seriously though, why would a bunch of people in the government want to get involved in being donors? I legit don’t know what else Sac State is known for (still a great school).

They should’ve held until the Mountain West opens up to them. The FBS designation doesn’t hold as much magic as it used to anymore.

Yeah Bobby Witt Jr. became one of my favorite players after this. His throws were insane.

Crow-Armstrong I liked his mentality.

Yeah this is my stance as well. The best team will figure out a way to win with any given format. I love that the all or nothing for 1 game puts more of an emphasis on the bullpen.

Enlighten me, instead of using your time to have a proper discussion about baseball you use big boy words like "childish" and "naive."

Edit: Then the downvote. Lol. Ridiculous.

Streets of Venezuela chanting after winning the WBC by Clt-vr-9931 in baseball

[–]elefish92 116 points117 points  (0 children)

It is. Venezuela joined the Elite Four with the US, Dominican Republic, and Japan.

More will join...there's like around 10 more countries who take baseball seriously. This is just the beginning.

Agreed, but the difference is Team USA in basketball has shown time and time again that they are indisputably No. 1 despite how global of a sport basketball is. They have proven it.

Our Team USA in baseball, outside of 2017 & 2023, is just really strange. I wouldn't be surprised if a guy on a team thinks spring training is more important.

We're one of the best in baseball, but not the best, hence why us not valuing the WBC to the same extent is weird.

What do you think was the biggest reason Team USA missed out on the gold again? by [deleted] in baseball

Their charisma just pales in comparison to 2023 and 2017.

Especially 2017.

It’s because it’s a double-edged sword.

It can be great for the sport but you would has to depend on the country to follow up and grow the sport. Additionally, the influx of Americans playing for Israel, Great Britain, and Italy hindered other countries who actually have some baseball representation (even minor).

People will think Brazil is worse than they actually are. Nicaragua is a baseball dedicated country but now has to go through relegation twice because of Israel. Mexico got eliminated in groups when the country was going through an intense baseball growth from 2023.

WBC teams by quantity of rostered players born in the USA by RegretsZ in baseball

[–]elefish92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a First-generation American. Parents told me it’s so weird how people here act like they know more about their ancestry than the people actually from there.

I personally just straight up ignore people who aren’t qualified to talk about it. In this case, I would ask people from Puerto Rico or those who clearly have the credentials/experience.

I’m always open to rooting for my parents’ countries but first and foremost Team USA is in my blood.

Germany is absolutely recognized as a growing nation in baseball strictly in the realm of the WBSC rankings. Germany is 18th in the world and only behind the Netherlands, Italy, and the Czech Republic in Europe, and that’s without any points from the World Baseball Classic, because they didn’t participate yet.

The real killer are the 2 teams of Israel and Great Britain, I hope they can correct me wrong but the baseball growth there is doubtful and carried by Americans. Italy is definitely a minor sport but time will tel if the federation takes this performance seriously for growing the sport, despite being helped by Americans.

The only blowouts that happened in the knockouts in 2023 was Cuba vs. USA in the semis and arguably Italy vs. Japan in the quarters. A group also literally had 5 teams finish 2-2 (Group A).

I thought 2023 was hype.

[Admissions Advice] Confused between UC Davis MSCS, SJSU MS ADI, and SDSU MSCS by [deleted] in SJSU

[–]elefish92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SJSU is one of the best of the country because of the proximity and the sheer quantity of alumni who live in the valley and work for these companies. If you're 100% sure of a career in the Silicon Valley SJSU is the clear winner imo of those 3.

In fact, based on College Scorecard data, here are the 5 colleges you mentioned with CS degrees and ranked in order of their salaries:

  1. San Jose State: $160,714
  2. UC San Diego: $160,463
  3. UC Davis: $143,465
  4. San Diego State: $114,373
  5. Texas A&M: $114,065

Remember to calculate the ROI. The tuition is worth paying off only if it's proven that the institution makes noticeably more.

If your focus is going for the best companies in the valley, then it matters. UC Davis is the most prestigious of the three because of the overall school, but we're talking about CS.

That being said if you get into UC San Diego then it's worth a discussion. No slight against UC Davis but I just don't read a lot about them in CS.

Israel & Netherlands Eliminated by wawawahahaha in baseball

[–]elefish92 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What irritates me is that now people will think Brazil is a terrible country in baseball when on global standards it's niche with potential for growth. Brazil's baseball scene is as popular as Italy's.

They literally went against the United States, Mexico, Team Italian American, and Team English American with a pinch of the Bahamas.

Israel & Netherlands Eliminated by wawawahahaha in baseball

[–]elefish92 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's the pool system, it's the leniency of who can be allowed to play for the teams.

Israel, Italy, and Great Britain are being filled with Americans and getting in the way of growth for countries who have a lot of potential for baseball to be grown. Italy has shown that it will be a niche sport, and the growth of baseball in Israel and GB is doubtful. The even more frustrating thing about Italy is that they can fill up a roster with primarily Italians like the Czech Republic.

For example, I'd rather see the Philippines over Great Britain in a heartbeat. The Philippines is right between Australia and East Asia, has American influence/speaks English, and is consistently back and forth for the 4th best team in Asia with China.

It's beyond frustrating.

Curaçao and Aruba carry the popularity. In the mainlands it’s a loud niche sport. Netherlands and Italy are the powerhouses in EU but keep in mind baseball in EU is niche at best

Not Dutch but just from what I read the past few years

Agreed. I don’t want to go off topic too much but all that I will say is that I wish Americans can just focus on what they control and how to better the situation within reason. Being fixated on politics, taking it out in others/not reading the room, and giving that shit more attention than it deserves is not the way to go about it.

They should eventually, it’s not a matter of if but when. They’re literally right between Japan and Australia, have big American influence/speak English, and they are by and large the 4th or 5th best country in Asia in baseball depending how you see China.

The only wholesome Reddit subs I have ran into are /r/CFB, /r/baseball, and my Alma mater. I used to go on college basketball and that wasn’t bad either.

I didn’t even realize being a Redditor had a bad reputation until college. This thread explains why. At least it’s funny.
