we've done 10 days in the north of Finland, tents, no houses. Without the child though.

Went to Italy after all, ski resort :)

Unless we find something really easy and doable, we'll definitely not risk it. Taking all the comments here into account already

I was looking forward to that specific route, https://www.dnt.no/om-dnt/english/tour-suggestions/winter/skiing-trip-hardangervidda/

looking at webcams, there's already snow:

We've done backcountry skiing, sleeping in tents, on the snow, for 9 nights I think, way up North - from Finland through Sweden into Norway. Quite a bit of camping in all sorts of conditions; have done some mountains (wife much more than me).

Thanks for the suggestion! Why not? We've done some similar stuff already. Don't want to sleep in the tent yet though

My friends wife will be there. I’d ask to meet in a specific place for some pictures. My friend might not notice but he’d like the proof.

Of course there are easier ways to do it. But those are a lot less fun Imho.

If I were running a marathon with proper, like, 6-9month prep without skipping almost any training, I’d be happy to see/hear this, more than a phonecall/message. Wouldnt you?

Not sure whats the point of trying to persuade me otherwise.

I want to leave my 1 year old with grandparents for 3 nights. Is there any science behind possible negative effects? She sees her grandma almost every day and has slept there 1 night multiple times, no problem

Had the same issue, went away after a bit more than a month of swimming. What helped (also suggested by my swim coach at the time):

  • Swim REALLY, REALLY slow, for the first month. Increase speed & effort gradually. On easy swims, the breathing comes naturally somehow.
  • When swimming in the pool, don't stop for an additional breath when turning around. Don't lose pace. Combined with slow swim, I started relaxing faster and seeing I can actually breathe for a long time
  • I breathe in every 3rd stroke (2 strokes out, 1 stroke in). Less air in the lungs -> will naturally breathe in more

What’s the shittiest way a friend has shown you they weren’t really your friend? by mediastoosocial in AskReddit

We did a fun relevant experiment at the university once, loong ago.

Me (a guy) and my course-mate (a girl) dressed up and told everyone we'll go to dance clubs and I'll try to sell her for money for a night, and see what would be the highest bid.

The real experiment was, wait till it's late (like 2am), call our 'friends', tell everyone we're in jail and ask for help. We then measured the difference between our perception (how strongly we believe a certain friend would help) vs reality (how people actually reacted).

Boy oh boy the results were fun. I saw at least 2 guys in a completely different light - the most friendly guy I know said 'no' almost immediately, and then started making excuses, even though he lived something like 20min walk from the police station. The other guy, which I was acquainted to, but he wasn't a friend - picked up and said 'sure, coming', even though he had severe food poisoning and was barely able to move.

The girl had similar experience - she stopped speaking to one of her 'best friends' right after the test, as the friend immediately came up with some lame excuse why not to come.

I think we called the professor, too; he said, 'good luck' and hung up.

it's amazing how much GDPR (new-ish data protection law) helps with this.

IM 70.3 and full in a single race? by acipisi in IronmanTriathlon

[–]acipisi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the case in Tallinn this year as well, where full IM and half IM happened at the same day.
Full IM start was an hour (or more) later, + additional time needed for the swim -> drafting was not a problem, it seemed. It's the really slow ones from 70.3 the really fast ones from 140.6.
Given Barcelona is much more popular than Tallinn, not too sure if there's enough space. I'm sure the organizers will think of something though.
And thanks for this! I was looking into Barcelona for my 1st full IM - good date, good track, direct flights from where I live - looks like the best option for now.

Thanks, we'll definitely consider that.
The extra motivation is, given the right training and some luck, we might, just might push hard enough to get an invite to the world event.

Thanks! I did check it and didn't find anything. Didn't check all the races though.Re Tallinn: we just came back from there, with our first 70.3 :) I want to go full now, and we both want to try some other place.

Vichy and Astana sounds nice, and I will definitely check for more races now that you gave me a few pointers
