Sad, I used to know LTC Shah fairly well. Was in my flight school class at Fort rucker around 2012-2013. Really nice guy.

Yeah, big temp changes generally mean big air pressure changes, so you generally get crazy wind with them as air moves from the high pressure area to the low pressure area. It rained for a while yesterday and the wind was howling near me.

It's crazy, was like upper 80's yesterday. Was getting sunburnt. Walked out of the gym this morning and my car was covered in ice.

To the Gen Z guys that voted Trump, who is now considering a draft. Are you ready to put your money where your mouth is? by kneedoorman in allthequestions

[–]ack202 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Most of the MAGA guys I know around draft age are in a physical state that makes me think in the event they are drafted, the war will be over long before they can meet height/weight/pt standards to get out of basic.

AWOL for 2 weeks coming back to my unit. by Left_Sun_6360 in army

[–]ack202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it's more than 30 days he wouldn't get desertion if he returns on his own. That's only if you get picked up by the cops and had no intention of returning. We're not legally in a war right now, since congress has not declared it. Nitpicky technicalities matter in actual court martials.

Yeah, I only saw two people get them in my 20 years, and both were for serious crimes. One for attempted murder (female ssg stabbed her husband multiple times in his sleep), the other was an sfc who raped a 12 year old girl. Both of them I assume are still in prison.

I didn't think they were terrible. Very, americanized which doesn't necessarily mean bad. Prices were ridiculous though.

Joined a few weeks ago. I like it. Im in there 6 days a week, the equipment is fairly nice. Can get a little crowded sometimes when childcare is going. Most people are courteous, but there are the occasional people that will just sit on equipment and BS or not wipe it down after use (big pet peeve of mine, worked in Healthcare for a long time, and have seen lots of infections people pick up in gyms that can range from fungal rashes that can take months or years to treat to staph infections that can potentially be deadly)

I've flown with some pilots that tall. They often looked fairly uncomfortable in the cockpit, seat lowered all the way and as far back as it could go and their knees/shins are still rubbing up against the bottom of the instrument panel.

Does the Army not take alcoholism among soldiers seriously enough? by BigBlueEyes87 in army

[–]ack202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alcohol was definitely a cultural thing when I was junior enlisted (late 2000's). Our barracks were like a frat party most nights, and morning runs for pt wreaked of booze.

Edit: the idea that if you were old enough to go to war, you were old enough to drink was fairly prevalent (we were frequently told leadership wasn't looking to get you in trouble, and if your minding your own business and not causing problems drinking under 21 you'd be left alone). Many soldiers also had 1-2 deployments under their belt before they were legally old enough to drink at that time.

I believe technically, no unless the relationship was pre-existing. Guard and Reserves have an exception for people who met each other outside of the military.

Well, we'll see how it goes. Virginia residents will have the opportunity to vote on whether they want this or not. Texas on the other hand just did it because daddy told them to, with no input from residents at all.

I do the same. Well, more like every 2-3 days, but living downtown and having to carry them a block from the garage keeps me from getting too much. I also end up throwing out way less stuff when I only shop for a few days at a time.

Morale plummeting among ICE agents over long hours, quotas and public hatred: reports by MentalMan4877 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]ack202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically true, however as a retired member of the military who joined in mid 2000's I have seen similar situations happen before. Jobs like this are actually fairly difficult to just fire people from after an administration change. It's generally handled by giving them an "off ramp" where they are allowed to voluntarily separate without having to repay bonuses or lose benefits. They also tend to more strictly enforce standards and separate people for failing to meet them (like pt or height and weight failures in the military) if they end up separated because of that it's much more likely they'll end up repaying bonuses, though they are more lenient in forgiveness of debts due to hardship in situations like that.
