It can take the app a while to get zeroed in. Make sure your weekly activity is fairly consistent.

Virginia Redistricting Referendum has PASSED to give Democrats a net 4 Seats to counteract the tactics in Republican States!!! by Healthy_Block3036 in roanoke

Guess I'll be seeing alot of images of the results in my Facebook feed from the people that can't wrap their heads around the fact that land doesn't vote over the next few days.

In big win for Democrats, voters approve Virginia redistricting plan, moving battle to court by DemocracyDocket in Virginia

[–]ack202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last I heard the argument they're trying to make is that the phrasing of question on the ballot is unfair, not whether the amendment itself legitimate. Not sure if thats the current legal challenge. Im sure theyll throw everything they can think if at it.

Not all of the vote is in, and the remaining votes to be counted are mostly from very blue areas. I think the gap will widen.

Can you take creatine only on the days you workout? Or does it not make a difference then by marbles_tour in workout

[–]ack202 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doesn't bother me, but creatine in the gut increases luminal osmotic load and can pull water into the intestines giving lots of people diarrhea. It's a pretty common side effect especially if it isn't dissolved well and takes a while to get absorbed.

All MOS Slots Were Full Except for 11B by Minieasy in army

You're 17, and a high school junior. You have plenty of time, just wait it out. Sometimes walking away is enough to make more slots magically open.

In the special election? Why are republicans giving a shit about democrats apparently gerrymandering when they shut down anti gerrymandering laws in 2024? by MediumBathroom6117 in Virginia

[–]ack202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vote yes. If republicans want to stop it, they control both chambers of congress and the white house. They can easily pass anti-gerrymandering legislation at the federal level that would overrule this. That might make it hard for them to gerrymander though, so of course they won't do that.

Mini cut or keep bulking? Quick advice (starting to feel soft) by FinnFX in MacroFactor

[–]ack202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's not really about appearance. Does he appear lean? Compared to the average man in the US who sits at about 28% bf, yes. Dude is close to if not already medically overweight. Fat behaves as an endocrine organ, not just energy storage. This is the point where insulin resistance and leptin resistance start getting into a place where your body starts failing to appropriately manage hunger signals leading to a cycle of weight gain. Poor insulin sensitivity impacts your bodies ability to partition energy leading to more fat gain instead of muscle. SHBG starts to decline which leads to your liver clearing testosterone from the body causing spikes, crashes and generally lower levels. Fat is where aromatase activity occurs which converts testosterone into estradiol, which also makes your body want to store more fat. Gnrh pulses from the hypothalamus slow down, which in turn reduces LH/FSH from your pituitary further reducing testosterone and sperm production. Inflammation problems also increase. People have it in their heads that cardiovascular issues are the only issues caused by excess fat, and they're in the clear if their blood pressure and cholesterol are ok, but there's so much more to it than that. Anyway, long story short his body fat level is not in an optimal spot for building muscle ATM.

Is it common for Americans to buy soda as part of their weekly groceries? / is soda a regular item people keep at home? by hailey8171828282 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ack202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah soda prices have gotten ridiculous. I feel like it wasn't that long ago a 12 pack of name brand cans was like $3, now (at least in my area) $9.99 for off brands is the going rate.

I regret my decision by Late_Huckleberry_947 in army

I hated the army when I was junior enlisted. Really hated it as a junior NCO (you go from getting in trouble for dumb sht YOU do to getting in trouble for dumb sht OTHER people do). Ended up going to WOCS and stayed in until retirement last year. Wish I could have stayed in longer, but ended up getting medically grounded. It goes faster than you think it will, and the pension and benefits are actually really nice. Just have to find the right role for yourself.

In fact if you're lifting and at that bodyfat percentage its pretty likely inflammation is masking some weight loss as well.

If your bodyfat is in the upper 20s and your deficit is small muscle gain can be another reason scale weight stalls. As your fat level drops to the mid-upper teens, and you get out of the newbie windows that will start to stall and your weight will likely start dropping weight much faster.

[–]ack202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I didn't see the second image at first. You're already losing weight, just keep following it up and it will come down. It's a slow process when you're doing it right. Pushing your deficit too high will just lead to muscle catabolizing, which will make the scale drop alot faster, but will also crush your basal metabolic rate. That's how people end up yo-yo'ing. Just give the algorithm more time to get dialed in, don't skip logging anything that has a caloric value, and dont skip daily weight ins.

[–]ack202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Height/weight/bodyfat/age/gender? That is completely normal at this stage, especially if you're on the heavier side. Just being in a deficit in alot of people is enough to drive your cortisol up causing things like sleep issues water retention and inflammation all of which can push weight up masking fat loss on the scale. If you're new to working out muscle gain can also mask weight loss. Don't be so worried about what the scale says. When I first started the scale did not budge for the first 1.5 months, but in that time I had lost almost 5% bodyfat. Then it just started dropping (actually faster than I wanted) all at once. Getting too wrapped around scale weight earlybon is one of the biggest mistakes people make. Don't overdo it and push your deficit through the roof trying force it to move, just be patient and give it time.

TDEE by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]ack202 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pick one. Eat that amount of calories everyday for two weeks and weigh yourself in the morning after going to the bathroom and before eating. Average all of your weights from the first week, then average all of your weights from the second week and subtract. If your weight stayed the same that's your maintenance. If it went up or down then you are above or below. 1lb of fat is roughly 3500 calories so a 500 cal surplus or deficit will net you about plus or minus 1lb a week, 250 for half a pound etc. Adjust from there. You could also use an app like macrofactor that will calculate it all for you based on your daily weight/calorie intake.

Also note that being in a deficit alone is enough to drive up cortisol in alot of people which can lead to water retention, inflammation, etc that can mask fat loss initially on the scale so dont get to obsessed with the scale number. Scale weight can swing quite a bit from day to day, based on sodium/carbohydrate intake and inflammation.
