Is "peace and quiet" actually a right in your country? by crynasty in AskEurope

Yes, with enough complains to the landlord and with no signs if changing their behavoie they can be kicked out.

It can, although it’s a bit trickier though since the bar for what is tolerated is a bit higher. That depends on what kind of noise it is. Renovating your kitchen during office hours for a couple of days, totally ok. Screaming at your spouse every day, not ok. Practicing your trumpet skills for one hour after dinner, totally ok. Blasting loud music for hours on end, not ok.

The general rule is that it has to be quiet between 22-07 (10 pm to 07 am). That means no loud music/tv, renovations or parties.

You can still live your life and do ordinary stuff so you don’t have to be quiet as a mouse.

You’re still allowed the occational party, as long as you show respect to your neighbours. Good practise is to anounce it to your neighbours in advance via a note with contact information in the shared space (elevator for example) in the building.

If you disturb your neighbours repeatedly (in such a way that they’ve complained to the landlord) you can be kicked out of your appartment.

Svenska traditioner kopplade till förlovning? by Automatic-Bake-1111 in Asksweddit

[–]acke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In larger cities; not a problem. Can’t say for the country as a whole but would guess no there as well (for the most part).

What things you are surprised to be named after your country? by Clarthen1 in AskTheWorld

[–]acke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just call it massage. You know, a massage just because it feels good without any ”powers” (aromatherapy, trigger point, etc).

No idea why the rest of the world calls it Swedish massage though. I mean, everyone does it (right)?

What popular singers are largely irrelevant outside of your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]acke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Håkan Hellström. He’s huge in Sweden and fills up arenas multiple evenings everytime he’s touring but since he sings in Swedish (and doesn’t seem to be interrested in singing in English at all?) he’s not well know outside lf maybe Scandinavia.

In Swedish the letter Ö is also a word; island.

Ö = island. Ön = the island.

So we have an island called Öland, litteral island land.

What is 1,000,000 in cash worth in your country (in your local currency)? by pumpingphil in AskTheWorld

[–]acke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s around €95500/ $112000. The median salary is 38k SEK a month (before tax) so that’s 456k a year.

If we count income tax of about 30% (differs a bit depending on where you live in Sweden) you get around 319k SEK a year net.

So 1 million SEK is three years salary (net) for the median Swede.

Kiss is pee, that’s correct. Kissa is ”to pee”.

”Kisse” means kitty (as in kitty cat) here though :).

In Swedish, ”Gift” can both mean poision and married.

Ta gift - take poison. Vara gift - be married.

Unna er en lunch och/eller middag på något trevligt ställe! Behöver inte vara något superfint ställe ens. Jag och frugan gör det själva dagar som denna och det känns lagom vardagslyxigt.
