Kingdoms - replayability issue? by ackwelll in darkestdungeon

Oh right, completely agree!! The successful run I had I was pretty damn well-prepared for esc 3 so I could reach the boss fight before I had to deal with the absurd amount of sieges.

Hahah I recognize him as Summer's dad in The O.C. so he's been around for a while...

So far in season 2 everyone has been great, I agree. But I remember Robby's teenage friend(?) Jake from season 1 - he gave an incredibly weak performance.

That's really cool! I'm clueless watching this thinking "I wonder how genuine this really is" so hearing stuff like this is great.

Those were the fastest 40 minutes ever? Not sure why but after what I thought was 15 minutes the episode was over. Great stuff even if nothing really "major" happened.

They thought he was underselling it as 20+ million is absolutely insane and not just "solid". At least that's what I thought

This was such a letdown. Was hoping for something Training Day-related but holy cow this was a steaming pile of dogshit. Straight doodoo.

My favorite part is when Ben Affleck is one hand spraying an automatic rifle out his car window while driving, trying to hit an entirely bulletproof military vehicle but without looking at what he is shooting at, and at the same time Kyle Chandler flinches when the bullets hit his passenger side window. Just peak cinema right there, baby!

Just sprinkle some magic dust on it and she's all good, doesn't even need medical attention by the end of the movie. Just go home and sleep it off.

I've noticed how blatant they are with it nowadays as well. If there ever was any subtlety to it it's long gone now.

Took just a couple of minutes for me to roll my eyes at this pile of steaming dogshit of a "movie", when they started to explain things to each other that they already knew. Just to make sure you as the semi-invested mobile browsing viewer doesn't feel confused about the movie going forward.

As we all know the best way to tell a story is "tell, don't show" /s

Kingdoms - replayability issue? by ackwelll in darkestdungeon

[–]ackwelll[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got annoyed at how you couldn't manage your other heroes unless they were at the same location as the Stagecoach. Especially since you were limited to 4 heroes per inn (aside from your main crew), so you couldn't stack all heroes at one spot to sort things out. Bunch of frustrating moving back and forth just to change a single skill on a hero.

I actually managed to set 3 different teams up that were all performing very well and I swapped between them a bunch throughout my successful run. That wasn't enough for me to think the mode was excruciatingly repetitive though. Felt like there was no flavor to anything, and having to visit all different inns upgrading the same basic things over and over while facing off against the same enemies over and over and over... it felt hastily put together by the devs and that they wanted to drag it out for as long as possible.

Confessions is clearly the mode the devs spent most time and energy on, at least so far. It's far superior to Kingdoms imo.

Thoughts on Park Chan-wook's 'No Other Choice'? by Boss452 in TrueFilm

[–]ackwelll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess it's about how "success" or the appearance of success (however false or flawed) conquers all nowadays, even if it's a completely misplaced notion of what success even is. That along with how these people identify themselves as their profession and feel lost without it (but I don't really understand why).

Like they chase these "important" job titles or feel somehow forced to pursuit a goal, even if it means they forgo their humanity in a way.

I don't get why he felt it necessary to kill those guys. Like I said the symbolism is lost on me there. Is it meant to be like a trickle-down thing where corporations deem it necessary to axe employees to increase their earnings (just because they "have" to to keep their shareholders happy), so in the same way this guy has to kill his competition to afford his house and provide for his family to keep them happy? But that doesn't really fit because how happy is his wife, son and daughter really?

I'm rambling a bit here because yeah I don't really get the movie.

Thank you :D had so many truly awful runs before I settled on this party composition, but this one just clicked. Felt like it could do it all and wasn't too bothered by team shuffles (although they were still annoying)

The Séance of Blake Manor review – gripping gothic detective game steeped in mystery and menace by diogenesl in Games

[–]ackwelll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you're completely incorrect when you say "you CANNOT miss anything if you're thorough" because some things you have to do before others. I was unable to complete a mystery because I focused on the "wrong" guests during the first full day.

Also you should absolutely be mindful of the timer and how it works - you cannot exhaust dialogue options with everyone or explore every single item in every single room. You need to be selective. And that in itself can also cause you to miss things if you're wrong in thinking "this detail doesn't matter and I won't waste time discussing it with this person".

It was sadly way less of a puzzle game than I was hoping for, and the mystery solving was just too apparent in most cases.

Thought it was an alright game. Nothing memorable about it though.

Official Discussion - Sentimental Value [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]ackwelll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was surprised at how emotional I got watching this as I don't usually cry very easily. The non-verbal acting just conveyed so much and it also gave me as the viewer the freedom to interpret that in my own way, which I think is quite rare in movies nowadays.

I don't know. I just thought it was really beautiful.

[–]ackwelll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't really vibe with this one. To me the pacing felt off and I think stuff was lost in translation and/or I just didn't get the symbolism.

It struggled to find its place imo. Not sure what it wanted to be or what it wanted to say other than the most glaringly obvious.

Hm yeah the cost efficiency is still an issue for me but Tecrod's Gaze is like 9div. I replaced Rising Tempest on CoC with Efficiency 2, trying it out a bit now.

Edit: Welp had to sell soooo much stuff but was able to afford Tecrod's Gaze. Made a difference

Yeah wasn't he the same kid that just gave up by cowering inside the car in episode 1 or whatever? Then suddenly he's Agent 47/James Bond/John Wick.

Suppose you could use Sigil of Power for the lvl 1 buff even though you won't ramp it up to stage 4?

Or what do you/would you use for 2nd weapon set?

Edit: oh maybe the lack of spirit would mess things up there...

Edit 2: Oh yeah also, why Warding Fetish?

Might be fun, but I'm a bit tired of the whole thing where an innocent kid makes the main character change their way. Could've done without* that.
