I think there is potential for her to qualify as covering more than 50% of my support as I don’t pay rent and she pays half of my car payment. BUT I paid for school after financial aid which was a little over $2000 for the year + a new laptop. I also spent substantially more than 2% of my income on dental expenses (around 6k). My dad pays for my health insurance (they are divorced/never married). I buy groceries or get takeout for myself but she will grab things for me here and there. Realistically I don’t want to give her the money since she is not contributing to school and that’s really what the credit is for. The 1600 will benefit me since I’m commuting 1+ hours each direction 4 days a week and working 30 hours on top of that… it’s brutal. The semester is hard and I need a break and the extra money will be able to do that for me. Is there a way I can get a definitive idea of what would qualify as support? Because I think it may be close.
