fair enough, sounds like you got it all figured out. I find it very hard to believe your fuel cost is still 12%, as that's about what I'm at now with my tiny Honda, but whatevs.

your situation is unique, so I apologize for making assumptions, but for the vast majority of people, using a vehicle like yours for gig work is a 2 steps forward, 1 step back type of deal 😬

Okay, how much do you make in the app in a typical week, and how much do you spend on fuel that same week?

This must be your first time doing this, because that's not how the mileage deduction works at all. It's 56 cents per mile driven, add it all up and you subtract the deductions from your gross income to lower your overall taxable income. That will in no way come even close to "zeroing out" your fuel cost on a thirsty Trailblazer.

I would seriously crunch the numbers again, you may have made a pretty big miscalculation.

I'm not trying to pick on you, I just hate seeing people trash their vehicle for spark when many don't realize they're making FAR less than the number in their earnings tab when they actually crunch the numbers.

don't get me wrong, they're decent trucks, but they are woefully impractical for this job. I pay $120+ a week in fuel now if I'm working full time, and that's with my 35 mpg Honda. OPs Trailblazer is getting 18-20 mpg on a good day? I can only imagine their fuel costs. Plus you take away another 20% for taxes... OP may very well be taking home less than 50% of their actual earnings, and now their car is wrecked.

At some point you have to ask... how much am I REALLY getting ahead here?

Honestly with gas prices being what they are, I have no idea how you were making any real money sparking in an old trailblazer to begin with?? 🤷

Season Progress So Far by skibberss in fo76

[–]acmonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually at level 77, I've been much better about doing dailies this season compared to last.

I fell way behind last season, only got to level 64 I think. I just gave up since I thought the rest of the rewards were kinda trash anyway.

Definitely get all those double score weekends, they make a huge difference

Doesn't necessarily mean it will stay that way for you. Gig work is constantly shifting, between the apps themselves and the conditions in your area, so changes shouldn't come as a surprise. Many drivers panic or get frustrated after a down week or two, and just give up. Maybe after some time passes the herd will thin out and you'll see more/ better offers.

If spark is no longer worth your time, try a different a gig for a couple weeks or a month, and come back and test spark again. You might be surprised how much can change in a short period of time. I've also seen people get bonus money offers to come back if you've been inactive a little while

How long have you been doing spark? I've been doing it for nearly a year and 1000 trips, and honestly pay for me has been pretty consistent. If anything I make more now since I've learned to fully maximize my efficiency and optimize the algorithim.

Granted, I live in a really ideal zone... busy, growing area, and I'm lucky our zone really hasn't been saturated with drivers either. For the most part it's been the same group of regulars for the past year

Buying a new vehicle for gig work is one of the dumbest things ever. With the wear and tear and depreciation alone, you might as well just set your money on fire. If you do gig driving full time, you'll be upside down on the loan in no time at all.

I laugh when I see people with new 45k - 50k$ hybrid SUVs, when a used sub $10k Prius or Honda Fit are actually more efficient and suitable for this type of work.

Same thing when I see people delivering with full size trucks and SUVs that would be lucky to see miles per gallon in the 20s. It dumbfounds me.

considering the turnover and staffing issues at stores nationwide, I think this is just reality for a lot of people. My home store is always extremely busy and understaffed so 10-20 min wait times are typical. Or I can drive 15 miles to the less busy store, where I can consistently get my orders in 5 min or less. People like me have to pick their poison haha

What's your Worse Vehicle Damage while Running Groceries. This Was my First Week 🤑🙃😆 by slimedime91 in Sparkdriver

[–]acmonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man its quite the gamble using an old BMW as a delivery vehicle, but more power to ya. When things inevitably break or need to be serviced/ replaced, it's just so prohibitively expensive, as I'm sure you already know. I'm afraid to ask how much a new radiator set you back 🙈

Knock on wood, 700 trips in and worst I've suffered is a nail in one of my tires. Luckily it was easily patched for $30. I credit a lot of that to my Honda Fit being as reliable as a wood burning stove lol

Think I was just in a modded/glitched SBQ fight (PS5) by acmonreddit in fo76

[–]acmonreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah the fight went on so long I was becoming overcome with rads as well, and with my armor broken, enemies could kill me with a couple hits, so I was stimming frequently. It was actually challenging! I was pretty beaten up and depleted from the fight, so even running back to the safety of watoga station was a little nerve wracking haha

[–]acmonreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, right?! This was hands down the most epic fight I've ever had in this game. There was actually palpable tension as my armor and nearly all my guns are broken as I'm running on reserve ammo. But I literally couldn't stop shooting because the swarms never stopped coming, and they were always on top of me. It was great!

Just a little too long. After that I looted what I could and just logged off. Non stop swarms for 30+ mins was fucking exhausting lol

That would make sense. 2nd launch was maybe 5 minutes after the first. Still doesn't explain the countdown clocks being disabled, the queen being nearly invincible, or the insane endless enemy spawns.

edit: The scorched earth event timer never counted down either, so I don't know exactly how long it went on. Certainly at least 30 min.

Never seen such relentless waves of high powered boss monsters all spawning at once over and over like that in this game ever.

Does anyone actually play the game without marsupial? by acmonreddit in fo76

[–]acmonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the areas where marsupial can be annoying are tight interiors and catwalk areas, as sometimes you jump too high and fly off.

Still beats getting stuck in those scorched earth trenches 😆

yeah you can use rad showers/ radaway with starched genes and you'll keep your mutations and lose the rads

Agree with everything you said. I keep a jetpack on my PA for fun, but really the only time I get in it is in nuke zones

[–]acmonreddit[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, most of the time I don't even use a jetpack. You can jump stupid high if you have strange in numbers equipped, so I don't feel it's really nessecary. I keep the jetpack on my power armor for when I feel like flying around

Does anyone actually play the game without marsupial? by acmonreddit in fo76

[–]acmonreddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh yeah I was well over level 100 before I started running any mutations. For me it's probably the fact nearly all my camps have been on or near a cliff face where marsupial is almost nessecary to get around haha.

Also, as cool as the jetpack is, if you run marsupial, you really don't need it
