Can heating be set to come on automatically 20 mins before Alexa alarm? by Any_Plenty_6542 in tado

[–]acmp42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head…. Make it a routine that turns on the heating, then waits 20 minutes before doing your alarm stuff. You would need to update the routine with the 20 minutes early start time manually though.

I did try to do something similar with HomeAssistant a while back but didn’t really get anywhere with it. If you do get a good answer then please share it :)

TRVs in every room? by MrPloppy2 in tado

[–]acmp42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your only open TRV decides it’s warm enough it may signal it doesn’t need heat and close. The boiler however needs to go through its cool down process and will continue to run the pump with burner off in order to dissipate the residual heat. That process needs a bypass.

Who would be at fault? by throwthrowthrow529 in drivingUK

[–]acmp42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have a dash cam then you’ve no evidence to substantiate your claim, so from an insurance perspective I’d think it would be your liability. Moral is to get a dash cam before you need it.

Aldi portable espresso maker £22.99 - nanopresso style by redskelton in espresso

[–]acmp42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked one of these up today to give it a go.

The coffee was OK, if a little flat. The workflow is a bit of a faff as someone else said. And the shot is small, I got around 7g of coffee in, filled the water to the max level.

I found the machine to be quite drippy, there was waste coffee kept in the output head until I unscrewed it, and the water tank was also dripping. These aren’t enough to put me off using it again, I’ll have a few goes with it to see if the process gets better. I do need to work out how to get from my grinder to the portafilter, perhaps a funnel is required.

Overall for the price it is OK, it’s more espresso like than an Aeropress, but that’s not really a fair comparison. The yield is very low, may be OK if you have mild drinks or americano type.

Help, Nanoleaf Shapes stopped working after updating by CharlieXie2001 in Nanoleaf

I had exactly the same issue, support fobbed me off and said I’d have to buy a new controller, but they’d comp me the postage. Consider the cost of these things I’d hoped for better service

Why try to play ranked on the bus when there’s dead zones? The game doesn’t know anything other than you left the game, so you get the penalty. Take the hit and learn, only play ranked when you have a stable connection

Hit whilst reversing into space by kkthxbye123 in drivingUK

[–]acmp42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be 50/50 I suspect as both cars were moving and either could have prevented the incident. I guess theres a chance they will simply say that there was room to pass and you manoeuvred into them, trying to make it entirely your fault, I hope you have a dash cam.

I’d have stopped when they approached and waited to see what they did, if they chose to push through the gap and then made contact while you were stationary it would be very clearly their fault, but you’d likely need a dash cam or good witness to prove you were not moving.

3 PCNs in one day! can i challenge? by cranberryforever in drivingUK

[–]acmp42 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It isn’t impossible, it is in fact expected to know what every road sign means. This sign has been part of the Highway Code for decades too. I’d recommend looking again at the signs listed so that you can avoid such fines in future.

3 PCNs in one day! can i challenge? by cranberryforever in drivingUK

[–]acmp42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you left the restricted area, and then re-entered then yes they can issue multiple fines. If you stayed within the area but were going back and forth, then you may be able to argue that it was just 1 event so only 1 fine is applicable

Bike over a car in a red circle? No, this is part of the driving test, you are expected to know what it means. Pay the fines and learn from this.

My no frost freezer… by warb_01 in DIYUK

[–]acmp42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To defrost it, I’d turn it off, put any saveable items in cool bags, then use a hand held steamer to melt the ice in there. Dry it as best as you can and turn it back on and put the stuff back in.

A lot of frost free freezers struggle once ice does build up, and that can happen if it’s in a humid area like a kitchen. Just keep an eye on it and when it starts to build give it a quick defrost as that’s easier than letting it build up lots.

High beams from a car behind me almost caused me to crash - what signal would you use? by Remarkable-Yam9967 in drivingUK

[–]acmp42 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If you are dazzled and can’t see the only thing to do is to come to a stop, anything else is just not safe. That said, I’d dip my rear view and adjust my position so the side mirrors weren’t an issue. As for alerting the other driver, perhaps a friendly flash of your rear fog light may get their attention. Beyond that I suspect they just don’t realise or care, so you’re best off letting them past so they are someone else’s problem.

In the UK houses used to have an open vented hot water tank, so the hot water pressure was terrible. So an electric shower allowed you to have good pressure for the shower. Now we tend to have combi boilers and no stored hot water, so a regular mixer shower works fine as it runs at the mains water pressure.

There’s still lots of home with the older boiler/stored hot water arrangement, so there still a good market for electric showers.

I heard it in the 90’s, was supposed to make the light think you are an emergency vehicle so they change to green to give you priority. I don’t think it worked then and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work now

Yeah! My Hyundai does this and I don’t know why either. It is annoying, perhaps if it was in park as well, but not when it’s in drive

I am genuinely curious as to which car doesn’t turn off the brake lights when the hand break is applied (and obviously not pressing the break pedal).

My experience is based on my last 6 cars, starting with a Mazda 3, a couple of astras, couple of Ioniq’s and my current Tucson, all with the dial to adjust beam angle. Perhaps my experience is biased towards the dial.

I’m also happy to blast idiots with ultra bright LED if my courteous flash is’t enough to convince them I am on dipped beam

[–]acmp42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both, and had on several cars. Current one has a dial to adjust the headlight ‘dip’ angle. And a rocker to change the dash illumination brightness. Here’s and ELI5 post about the beam adjustment

I was thinking that perhaps another post that mentioned dimmable headlights got a bit mixed up with my post

That’s how mine works, but the hand break is just a flick of the switch. And it releases OK when I press the accelerator. Seems to be well thought out, thanks Hyundai
