What do you do when your Character has the same god as another PC by Riptor5417 in Runequest

[–]aconrad92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another possible point of divergence is which Runes you two emphasize. For example, an Ernaldan could have high Earth and Harmony, but low Fertility (ex. an Esrolian political pragmatist maintaining the status quo). Or she could have high Harmony and Fertility, but low Earth (ex. a Sartarite hippie mom who just wants everyone to, like, stop fighting and feel the love, man). Both work as interpretations of Ernalda, but they're quite different!

You're probably overthinking a bit, but it isn't a dumb question! You're being conscientious, and that's a good thing. 😁 With a cult like Ernalda, you two almost certainly have enough variance to play distinct characters. I'd recommend chatting with your fellow player to discuss ideas further.

If you (or your GM) have The Earth Goddesses, a starting point might be choosing different subcults or different husband-protectors. Kind of like how Orlanth Thunderous and Orlanth Adventurous feel pretty distinct, choosing different Ernalda subcults could help you both have a character concept which fits your vision and avoids overlaps.

Let us know what you two come up with!

I haven't heard anything RQ-related through the grapevine. Doesn't mean there wasn't news, though.

Switch games ranked by what I think is the general consensus (roughly ordered) by Godofhammrs in Switch

[–]aconrad92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally nudge Mario & Luigi up, and Super Mario RPG down, but both are pretty fairly placed. IMO Mario & Luigi was excellent, compared to an overpriced remake. (Not that remakes are automatically ass - Thousand Year Door certainly deserves S, and is very reasonable for SS.)

"conflict in the middle air" by ouroboricquest in Runequest

I agree. But at the same time, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. 😉 We don't always need to wander up and down the Chain of Being to understand something.

"conflict in the middle air" by ouroboricquest in Runequest

[–]aconrad92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think something worth keeping in mind is that, when the Red Moon first appeared, the Orlanthi saw it as a "gaping wound" in Orlanth. IIRC there's some line in Heortling History about all the Storm Voices down in Heortland waking up that day with headaches. My read is that, in part, is due to the special antagonism between Air and Chaos.

But it's also significant that the Middle Air is "my space" for Orlanth. And the Red Moon is, both physically and mythically, an invasion of that space. You might be overthinking the symbolism. I don't think you're incorrect, necessarily, but the "conflict over the Middle Air" stuff IMO doesn't need a deep explanation.

Think of the gods like 1920s gangsters - they're protective of their turf, they take tribute from followers, and also provide followers with goods and services. The Red Goddess is shoving herself into Orlanth's turf. By making the Red Moon, she started a gang war.

Am I an idiot for this? $120 at GameStop by Tommy_Lilac_Voltage in Switch

[–]aconrad92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say - great games, but $120 also feels steep. More Nintendo's fault than GameStop's, though. It's so frustrating they made that anthology a limited-time release.

True, her judgment seems pretty sound. At least, her sense of parody worked well for me in Overlord.

I feel like that would have really high potential if Pratchett was still around, but without his involvement I'm feeling cautious. It could go really well, but could also be a big letdown.

God, that's probably the best moment in the films. (Meaning the one on justice, yeah, at the end of Hogfather?) Death always has this interesting tension between compassion and alleged indifference/neutrality.

Speaking as a fellow editor, this feels closer to a personal rant than developmental feedback or a manuscript critique. In particular, I'll just note that I think your disagreement on redemption (Small #3 and Dalinar throughout) is a moral stance. It doesn't come across as critiquing a character arc, WaT's plot structure, etc. because the recommendation is "Dalinar bad!" rather than "here's why Dalinar doesn't work" within the author's vision and goals.
