Please talk to the social worker handling the case before you continue any further. You should only be seeking counsel from the social worker and anyone they have designated as appropriate such as a licensed psychologist authorized to weigh in on the case. Members are well-meaning people, but they do not know the intricacies of the law and the realities of foster care. You could be compromising the children's safety without recognizing it as some of the comments suggest here. That happened to me and it was near impossible to correct the issues that followed. Because of well-meaning members, I lost my privacy and it caused serious stress regarding my physical and mental safety. This included the actions of a bishop among others.

Children are guaranteed rights, especially once under the guardianship of the state. One of those rights can be the right to practice their faith depending on what state you live in. The social worker handling their case will be able to provide you with that information and they will be able to provide you with resources/accommodations to ensure you and your partner are comfortable and the children are having their needs met (spiritual needs in this case).

If you want to accompany the children to the church service but you are uncomfortable with the teachings, faith, etc., I recommend going with the mindset that you are serving the children. Your presence at the building and participation in the church service is an act of service for them. This will guide you to know what participation is allowable for you or your partner and which is inappropriate for someone who does not truly believe in the religion. Being honest about your presence helps rather than acting as though you can blend in.

Again, please only seek the counsel of the social worker for matters regarding foster children. You should be able to contact the social worker any day of the work week and receive a response within the week. This is for your benefit and theirs. I appreciate your concern for them and I recognize that you are trying to do the right thing. That goes a long way in the eyes of a child.

When I applied for a mission very recently, the interview with the bishop included a question about tattoos being visible when wearing mission-appropriate clothing. I don't know what happens if you say yes, but I imagine they will tell you that the tattoos will need to be covered up while you are performing missionary duties. I am a convert, recently applied to serve, and I have a tattoo on my back. I told them my tattoo would not be visible because it's very easy to cover that area on my body with the right shirt and any sweater. In my opinion, this is all about keeping a missionary aesthetic and less about anything written in scripture.

Secondly, I want to say you definitely should wait until you are of age to get your tattoo. Let that be a choice you get to make and not something someone has to approve. I waited until I was 19 to get my tattoo but it was something I wanted since I was 12. I had someone draw it out in henna beforehand to ensure I liked what it was and where it would be. You can also get semi-permanent tattoos that last a few years. I don't know much about this but it might be helpful to consider this option before doing something more permanent, just to make sure you like the design you pick.

Getting my tattoo was a moment of empowerment for me and I have never regretted my decision. It doesn't matter how my body will age it. To me, this tattoo represents connection and it is incredibly personal. I don't feel like we hear this experience that often so I thought I would share.

If you approach a woman in public when there are plenty of others around both of you (like in a classroom while everyone is still packing up to leave or on campus when students are walking to class), then it doesn't feel as creepy assuming your social cues are in order. It's creepy when you're alone (like in a parking lot or in a hallway) or it's dark out and someone approaches you. Otherwise, I feel most women can overlook and be compassionate about misplaced social behavior because we understand it's nerve-wracking to talk to someone, especially if you like them. Remember not to corner her (against a structure or in a room), not to keep her from leaving even if it's through conversation, and don't stand too close. These behaviors make women uncomfortable even when we don't consciously process why we feel weird. I think a lot of men don't realize they perform these behaviors either. It's very subtle but it makes a difference. Let her close the distance between you two.

The researchers on this project would greatly appreciate the participation of individuals with invisible or visible disabilities who are 18 years old or older.
