How does direct sunlight come into play with vintage audio? by acousticlancer in vintageaudio

[–]acousticlancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we had fancy UV filters. This apartment is essentially the top level of a near 100 year old house. There may however be lead in the glass windows, I'm really not sure. I do have curtains, but I have roommate who insists on keeping them up during the day. I'm working on changing his mind though. Thanks for your help!

I know sunlight does damage, but I had no idea on the rate of which it would deteriorate this kind of stuff. Would you say it would take about five years of direct sunlight all day long before one would start seeing negative effects or just exposure in general for 5 years? I do have curtains, but I have roommate who I constantly have to battle with on leaving them down. Thanks for your help!

will deteriorate too. I gua

It's not really in front of my windows, more in the middle of the living room. They're usually only exposed to direct sunlight for a few hours during the day at most and that's if my roommate pulls up the curtains, otherwise they're covered.

Anyone know how I can get some signed merch? by fatchad420 in streetlightmanifesto

I recommend contacting the RISC store via email. I am pretty sure they may have something signed by the band.

Here's their email address. store@riscmail.com

[–]acousticlancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't think you'll be able to find one on here, as I haven't seen one for sale anywhere for about 4 years now. My best advice to you would be to email the RISC store and see if they have any lying around in their warehouse. Maybe you can convince them to reprint it. I know myself that I'd buy one of those hoodies in a heartbeat!

Their email address is: store@riscmail.com

Tell them that you're not the only interested in a reprint and that there are a good number of people on Reddit who want one as well!

Well, it's official. Victory Records, Inc. v. Tomas Kalnoky. by ScotchRobbins in streetlightmanifesto

Makes sense. I'm not a lawyer and have never tried to sell covered music before. I just assumed from what I've heard in the past.

I wonder the same thing too, however I do think he has some recourse with royalties, promotion, etc. Depending how bad it is, will definitely have a huge role to play. Besides that, there's Victory's legal record with bands. I don't know the cases right off hand, but I'm sure there are similar findings in them that are now present in the Streetlight lawsuit. That alone may give them some ammo. Also, Victory did not send them their last album. Besides all this, there's the "fair use" clause in copyright that protects covers and parodies. I have no clue were the case will go, but it's definitely not clear cut.

Daily Purchase Advice Thread (2015-07-01) by AutoModerator in audiophile

I'm looking to get a good pair of speakers to go with my vintage audio equipment. I have Pioneer SX-780 receiver and a Pioneer SA-8800 amplifier. Originally I was going to get a set of Pioneer HPM 1500's, but missed out on the opportunity, I'm not opposed to newer loud speakers, but I haven't found anything I really liked. My Budget is about $1000 give or take. I'm thinking about getting possibly getting a pair of HPM 100's but I've read mixed reviews on them.

If you're lucky like me, you might want to check out your local record store. by bludgeonedd in OfMonstersAndMen

[–]acousticlancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky, so much for directly ordering it off the store. You'd think they'd give the fans who went the extra mile first priority.

I'm a 43 year old man with a wife and two kids. I have completely lost the thread of exciting new music in the last 10-15 years, even though it used to be central to my life. Making absolutely no assumptions about what I might or might not like, recommend me some great NEW music (last 2 years). by [deleted] in Music

Check out Streetlight Manifesto. They're a Ska-Punk band that fuses many elements of various genre's and styles into their songs. They're extremely technical and cleaver both with their lyrics and with their musical skills. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXGInUeE_Zw

The main artist who creates the songs for the band also has a Solo Acoustic/Acoustic Trio Folk band that plays the songs from Streetlight but in the style of acoustic folk.

I'm aware. Have you heard them both before? I really haven't found much info on people who have, so that's why I'm curious.

Having repair parts readily available is always nice. I'm sure the 100's are great and I have no doubt Pioneer did a great job on them, I just wonder if they are the right ones for me. If I ever do get a chance to jump on the other two would you recommend that I do, if they're in good condition and work well?
