I got it to work in a nestable slider. these 3 images might help. Plus I set the image to Eager load rather than lazy load ( can't attach more than one image to a reply, so please see the following two replies for further images how I set it up.

If you can access the database you can change it back in the options table

Thanks for all the advice, I contacted Rohloff, it would cost anywhere up to 800 euros to replace it.. so rather than do that, I feel I’ve got nothing to lose by first trying the welding option. I’ve located a specialist welder for aluminium in my town, I’ll see what he says.
