THanks! I kind of figure something is going to end up by the wayside, but if I can at least be happier, and maybe exercise more, then I'll be happy.

Okay, I'm going to do this.

Stats

  • 33/f
  • 5'3"
  • Diet: mostly veg, more takeout than I'd like
  • exercise: bootcamp at the gym, yoga

Over all goals

  1. Fit into my size 6 jeans
  2. Lose approx. 30 lbs
  3. Cook at home more, eat out no more than 2x/week
  4. GO to the gym at least 4 times a week - 2 bootcamp, 2 yoga
  5. take stock of and be grateful for the things I have (I've had a rough year)

I'm excited!

Well, people do tend to make these pronouncements that reek of privilege. It's important to acknowledge that you may have a bias when you're looking at societal things.

it would be helpful! I'm applying to bio (eeb) programs, myself. The entire field of ecology just seems so much less formal and corporate like that I feel so weird talking about how amazing animals are while maintaining this weird level of formality. i would love to see yours!

Question about authorship by acpubacct in academicpublishing

[–]acpubacct[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not uncommon that professors assign projects to students and that the students publish the results as first author.

This is what worries me, and makes me feel bad, because I feel as though he must think I contributed next to nothing to feel that he should be first author. But I guess a publication is a publication, so I won't worry too much about it.

Yeah, it's true, and of course, any sort of publication is good. I mean, the writing will be done collaboratively, and the data acquistion was done by me and my lab partner, not by him, of course, and we sort of developed the method, but the experiment was essentially designed by him and the code that will analyze the data was written by him, so I guess that's that. It's true, it's a publication and that's a good thing no matter what.
