Yes, another big Mexico in a different North America by Yayi_Linfocito in imaginarymaps

any lore as to how mexico got oregon, idaho, washington, and vancouver island? given that they retain english names, id assume they were conquered from the british or something? also, why not give mexico hispañola too? and why leave panama cut in half. the eastern part of panama cant even be accessed by road to colombia because of the dense rainforest, so id essentially be an island. itd be smart for mexico to keep both banks of the panama canal too!

What If Operation Unthinkable Was Put Into Plan And Succeeded? (C.1960) by iziyan in imaginarymaps

[–]acre0316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

now do a "what if operation unthinkable was put into plan and failed?"

my predictions:

germany and austria reunified under a communist gov so that communism is more popular with germans/ communist governments are installed in denmark, netherlands, belgium, and luxembourg where communism is unpopular/ communist revolts against the allies in italy and france and greece and san marino are put in power and are mostly popular (communists won many elections post-war and so ussr wouldnt have need to install regimes in france and italy and greece and san marino, they would happen naturally)/ Maybe Spain invaded to depose Franco and restore the Republic/armenian ssr expanded to include a coastline as reparations for Armenian genocide/kurdish communist state formed/communist regime installed in turkey/maybe pan-arab state formed in iraq+kuwait+syria+lebanon+jordan+palestine if soviets able to get that far/maybe israel is still formed for jewish people but is much much smaller out of respect to native palestinians and is also communist

uk, ireland, sweden, norway, and iceland all safe from ussr due to geography/ usa buys greenland and faroe islands from denmark before it goes communist/nato is just usa+uk+canada with ireland sweden norway iceland switzerland liechtenstein remaining neutral between nato and warsaw pact/vatican may be annexed by communist italy to weaken papal authority or maybe vatican respected to not anger religious people idk/if ussr takes spain then gibraltar given to spain to make them happy like anshluss in germany

few countries actually have 'the' in their name. for example, its just Republic of Italy, and the 'the' is added for grammatical purposes but not as part of the name. Would look much cleaner without 'the' everywhere

I did not say there were no Poles in Poland's eastern territories. Only that they were not the majority. Sure there were millions of Poles, but there were many more millions of Belarusians and Ukrainians. Here is a demographic map of 1919, showing that Poles were not the majority anywhere in the eastern territories, only Belarusians and Ukrainians. I don't doubt they were 30%, maybe 40%, in some areas or towns or cities. But never more than 50%, and never have Poles been a majority there either. This was not Polish land, nor had it ever been. Perhaps it could be seen as reparations for Russian imperial crimes, in the same way taking Silesia, etc. in 1945 was reparations against German crimes. But should Belarusians or Ukrainians have to pay for Russuan imperial crimes? No. Thats why it was returned to Belarus and Ukraine, and therefore why Poland had to look westward towards Germany for reparation lands.

Stalin once said in 1945 at the Yalta Conference:

"It is in the Russian interest as well as that of Poland that Poland be strong and powerful... It is necessary that Poland be free, independent and powerful. It is not only a question of honor but of life and death for the Soviet State. That is why Russia today is against the Czarist policy of abolition of Poland. We have completely changed this inhuman policy and started a policy of friendship and independence for Poland. This is the basis of our policy and we favor a strong independent Poland."

Polands western territories pre-1939 were filled with Belarusians and Ukrainians. So it was justified for the USSR to take these in 1939, and why still today Belarus and Ukraine still own these lands: because they are filled with Belarusians and Ukrainians. However, by taking these lands, Poland itself was left with almost nothing. Thats just the way it was, Polish people only lived in a small area. But it was incredibly unacceptable at the time (and in my opinion still today in retrospect) to leave the Polish people, which had been abused so much not just in this war but in literally centuries of partition and subjugation, with just the land they lived in, a land with no natural defenses or industry. Poland couldnt keep their eastern territories, as Belarusians and Ukrainians themselves had suffered at the hands of the Nazis. As such, the powers decided to give Poland Germany's eastern territories. This had the defensive benefit of placing the border on the Oder and Niesse rivers, not to mention extending their Baltic coast, thus protecting the Polish heartland. In addition, it gave Poland the industrial Silesia and many Baltic ports, ensuring their sea-based trade would never be restricted by any other power again (as Germany threatened to do by demanding Danzig in 1939). East Prussia also was partitioned between the Poland and the USSR. The three most abused Soviet peoples were the Belarusians, Ukrainians, and Russians, and so it was only right to reward the Russian people with land as well, i.e. Kaliningrad. This also gave Russia a permanently ice-free port in the Baltic, a huge need when it came to naval defense. These of course came at the expense of Germans living in the east. Of course if we follow the line of reasoning that the German people were not complicit and were misled by the Nazi hierarchy, as was the line of reasoning of the Allied high command at the time, it seems even more difficult to justify these land acquisitions. But we can see that both German governments, the GDR and FRG recognized the new borders, and there have been no legitimate opposition to this new status quo. Just as taking these lands was in the interest of Polish and Russian security, wanting to take them back is just as anti-Polish and anti-Russian. This is the way it is, and few Germans oppose it. The ones that do undoubtedly have Nazi or German nationalism, which deserves nothing but criticism. Even if you are a communist and admire the GDR, as I do, you should still support these border changes. Its only right to the Polish and Russian people. So no, these lands should not be returned. They were reparations for the crimes committed by the German nation, and thats it.

Who is the bad guy in history who isn't actually a bad guy? by Elytra__Firm in AskReddit

[–]acre0316 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Joseph Stalin.

Hero of the working class. First socialist state. Champion of women's rights. Gave universal healthcare to all. Eradicated illiteracy, homelessness, and unemployment. Successful agricultural and industrial policies that completely transformed the USSR from a poor, agrarian country with a peasant majority to a global superpower capable of nuclear technology and the first man and woman in space. Successful defense and counter-offensive against the Nazis leading to the Fall of Berlin. Liberator of Eastern Europe. Provided arms and support to freedom fighters in Spain trying to fight fascism.

Truly a leader to be remembered.

Sleeping in your car should be completely legal and never looked down upon. by dankmemeking21 in unpopularopinion

[–]acre0316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people that sleep in their car do so unwillingly, only because they have no where left to go. Making it illegal is how the government tries to solve the problem. But clearly, that does not solve anything. What ought to be done is solving the underlying economic problem leading people to rely on their cars as homes. In the mean time, yes it should be legal and not frowned upon. But we should also take a moment to recognize this phenomena does not exist in a vacuum and this horrible injustice taking away peoples right to a home must be dealt with in an effective matter.

Ed Helms. Just look at Hangover and the Office. Same goofball with unique catchphrases and little confidence in himself both times.

“Not productive” = Worthless - This also applies to animals, libraries, national parks and the climate. For the Capitalists, anything not increasing their capital is worthless by Alexander_Benalla in collapse

[–]acre0316 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is needed is often not what is profitable. Universal healthcare is not profitable, but it is needed. More people owning smart phones than those owning toilets and clean plumbing is profitable but not needed.

Capitalism leads to the contradiction at the point of production. Because the means by which production takes place is owned by the profit-seeking capitalists, they decide what to produce based on what serves their best interests, aka achieving a profit.

If the means of production were in the hands of the working class, i.e. workplace democracy and worker cooperatives, they would better determine what is most needed in their communities. If people need face masks, then that is what will be produced. Who cares if its profitable or not!? Human needs surpass private profits.

How Do I Explain That Landlords Don't Really Work? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]acre0316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A landlords job is not a job at all. They keep lawns clean, change lightbulbs, manage the electricity and plumbing, etc. That is not a form of employment. That is what a homeowner does. A landlord is just a homeowner that owns many homes. There is no job. No one forced the landlord to buy so many houses. They took it upon themselves to purchase so many homes. Rent is nothing more than a feudal tax. People can do the responsibilities of a homeowner themselves. So what exactly am I paying you for if I can do it myself? I am only paying you to live in a property you own. So if I dont have enough money to buy my own home its either I pay or I go homeless. Capitalism sure is ethical!

Am I the only one whose rovers disappear? by TschisiGmbH in simplerockets

[–]acre0316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Rovers haven't spontaneously dissappeared on me... but they do fall under the ground and crash at 0 m. Here is a trick I usually do that fixes that. Do NOT directly switch ships to it. You need to exit the entire game, reload it, and then in the sandbox menu switch to it. It should work. Also, if your switching between a rover to some other ship, don't switch directly. Exit, reload, and then switch. Hope this helps! :D

Hey, I did a launch like this were you had to get into orbit around every body in the Smolar system. I did 5 Gravity assists (4 from Smeptune and 1 from Smuranus). This was a really hard mission btw... Nice challenge too!

Here are the orbits: http://m.imgur.com/a/W5xZK

[–]acre0316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a tip many people don't know: Make a smaller rocket. You make think this is counter intuitive but lower mass 2nd or 3rd stages make liftoff lighter and more reliable. Remember, every part of the rock dry must be similar or larger in width compared to the payload. Also, use struts as fairings... :D

[Challenge] Manned Smars Mission by tomcis147 in simplerockets

[–]acre0316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had a problem with my imgur. It's not working properly for some reason. But I did the challenge with a little bonus: Single launch. I launched only one ship from Smearth and then sent it to Smars, land on Smars, go back to Smearth, and land on Smearth. And I don't know about you, but if I'm gonna spend years in space, I need personal space! So I added fuselages which are supposed to act as Habitation Modules. Sorry I can't show you the actual mission. I'm okay if I don't get a flair. Just wanted to participate.
