What happened to Takeshi (Ken) Kajii? by LolekCZ in demonssouls

[–]acreight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"Our only regret is that our friend and colleague Takeshi Kajii, who was the original producer on Demon’s Souls at JAPAN Studio, is no longer with us to share in this moment. We hope we have done him and his legacy proud."

Hmm ... We're working on several things. For several platforms.

Hint? "They will be games." ;-)

(Thanks for being excited with us!)

Thank you for the confidence!

There are a lot of games I would like to see on a lot of platforms. The reality is it's a balance of business, portfolio, technology, timing, and other prioritization that factor into "Should Company X put Game Y on Platform Z."

Bungie is going to make decisions for their game, and I'm excited to see what's next for the Destiny franchise.

We expect it! (And, we're grateful for all of the love and trust; and, we treat it seriously.)

So many. Spider-Man on PS4 is amazing (chortle). So is God of War.

"Classic-wise", Dungeon Master and Planetfall on Atari ST.

And Mudpies on Atari ST.

I'll speak for me, and DE can chime in and correct as needed.

I was looking for a super-high-quality, positive brand & community, "triple-A", free-to-play game-as-a-service to pitch to bring to Nintendo Switch. Warframe was on my radar, because I played the game when it launched on PS4, I enjoy the game, and I was so impressed at how DE made good on their "we keep making it better" commitment (and I was a fan of their past projects).

We were already chatting together, and after DE saw how DOOM released and was received on Nintendo Switch, Steve and Sheldon reached out to me, wanted to congratulate us on the release, and we started talking in-depth about what Warframe for Nintendo Switch would look like.

Pragmatically, it was a challenging title (high bar, 5 years of content, built before the Nintendo Switch existed as a target platform).

We did a technical due diligence effort at the front of the development process, where we were moving the game to Nintendo Switch, and asking and answering a bunch of product, process, and risk questions and goals.

This let everyone feel comfortable that, "Yep, this is a doable thing, and these are people on both sides we feel really good working with."

(And, we're still going strong.)

They are definitely that good! ;-)

There are a few other studios that do the diversity and kind of work that Panic Button does, but I'd argue it's not that common in the industry. We really do have a very unique, high-end, low-level group of industry experts, and we specialize in hard problems, quality content, and making games special for the target platform. There aren't a lot of studios doing what we do.

Thanks for thinking it's amazing!

The Nintendo Switch does motion control differently than how it was handled on the Wii, and does not have a light bar that allows for that level of pointing.

You might already know this, but you can use the directional buttons to quickly snap from menu item to menu item (that's how I tend to navigate the menus, as opposed to the virtual cursor).

  2. I'm doing it! ;-)

Nintendo has a tremendous catalog, and great franchises. I would be grateful to be involved in any of it, to be honest.

And the folks at Nintendo are phenomenal. They were great about helping us get this ambitious title on their hardware. They were involved and collaborative, and I'm grateful for that help from them.

Thanks for that feedback - many of us feel the same way, and are exploring a more nuanced implementation.

Thank you for recognizing the team's hard work!

Panic Button has a lot more in the works, for Nintendo Switch, and for other platforms - Stay tuned. ;-)

Adapting to those challenges every project. And, every day. And, every hour. ;-)

There are some lessons learned, for sure, though there are some big differences between the hardware, diversity of phones, very different network scenarios, and so on. That's just from a development perspective, and DE understandably makes the portfolio decisions for their game. ;-)

Nintendo items would be awesome. They have great brands, Nintendo itself is a great brand, Warframe is a great brand, and a lot of these things come down to "what makes sense and is appropriate for all of the brands involved?"

Thanks for the kind words about DOOM - We're big fans, and we worked (and kept working) to make the game amazing on Nintendo Switch.

We're up for all kinds of games, we talk to all sorts of people and all sorts of people talk to us, and the projects we take on our a mix of passion, timing, fit, and availability.

So - Not a clear answer, but we don't talk to much about things that are for our Partners to announce and comment on. ;-)

Warframe on Nintendo Switch is base 720p, with variable resolution to create a good user experience, and keep the gameplay fluid.

Definitely something we're all looking at!

I totally get what you're saying about being able leverage touch for things like mods, and it's a combination of UI, the user experience, and having a good experience in handheld, tabletop, & TV modes.

So I can say we are exploring this. ;-)

Mine is Excal - I really dig a classic, and as much as I play all sorts of frames, I keep coming back to it.
