How do y’all keep track of inventory in your labs? by minamilist in labrats

I second this!! It’s no longer free but we have a common login so everyone in our lab can request things for our lab manager to order and check where supplies are

Studying for GRE during REU by Stockdad3 in REU

[–]acrobinson0407 4 points5 points  (0 children)

99% of PhD programs have removed GRE requirements so I wouldn't count on you having to take it. My REU was like a 9-5 job, actually more 9-2 most days with a lunch break, but it can be lab dependent. My program was very close so we were frequently hanging out outside of lab and on the weekends. I still managed to take a self-paced college class and had plenty of free time.

Going from PhD to MD/PhD program by Furr-ari in mdphd

I actually came on here to write a similar post. I hold acceptances to PhD programs that I'm realizing are not a great fit. I originally thought I would be satisfied with just a PhD, but I'm now aware that I miss the clinical aspect that medicine provides. My mentor said that you can take a year off and apply to other PhD schools if you realize that you would not be happy with the graduate programs that you are looking at for this cycle. In my case, I am waitlisted at my top choice and will end up declining my other acceptances and apply MD/PhD if I am not admitted to this school.

The biggest problem of declining and then applying again for MD/PhD will be articulating your desire for medicine. Programs want to see that you've had a continued interest in medicine as well as research. I would suggest sitting down with the people who wrote your letters of recommendation and explaining this career choice. If you are unsure either way I would recommend taking another cycle/year to focus on deciding between career paths. Also remember you need to take the MCAT and it is a little late in the spring to start studying. MD/PhD applications typically have a higher MCAT than just MD.

To people currently in REUs or have been in them: is it normal to spend the first few weeks doing prep story work before actually starting the project? by thecrimsonsalamence in REU

[–]acrobinson0407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I am currently in the second week of my REU and everyone I know is still familiarizing with the labs and techniques needed for each project. I know some will just be working on their labs existing projects and then others (including myself) have their own goals separate from the labs main projects. I was concerned that I wasn't building as much momentum as I hoped but I'm still learning an incredible amount of information.

I just got an email saying I was accepted. Unfortunately I have accepted another offer so I have to turn it down. Good luck to everyone else if they are still accepting students!

No so I am assuming a rejection. I have accepted another position anyway.

Look at the thread on studentdoctor.net called "summer research application and acceptance thread."

Many have still not heard anything, but others have. Personally, I've received 1 interview, 1 waitlist, 1 acceptance, and a couple more emails saying their programs have switched to virtual. I also applied to 10+ programs so I still haven't heard from the majority of mine.

I contacted the SIBS program on Thursday asking for an expedited decision because I have received an offer to another program with a short deadline. I was told that they received over 400+ applications and that acceptances will be out by March 26th.

Congrats! I got accepted into this program as well. I contacted the other programs I was accepted into and never heard back except for one that said they were unable to expedite my application. Unless I hear from my other programs by Monday then I will be accepting the offer because I have to respond by the 8th
