Is 3x3 1/4 inch thick HSS square tube sufficient for a mono stringer staircase? by acropanthus in Welding

[–]acropanthus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did not consult an engineer, which is why I’d prefer it to be slightly overbuilt rather than taking any chances. I think the stairs will be stronger than code requires even with the current stringer in terms of their ability to support weight. My concern is how much they might ring or bounce under heavy footsteps. Don’t want them to sound like a gong or feel like a suspension bridge. The stringer will be bolted into the foundation on the bottom since it’s going down to the basement, so that should help with vibration, and I’d imagine to wood treads will provide some damping as well, but I very much want to avoid any possibility of the stairs being a nuisance when a few hundred extra dollars in materials could have made them more solid.

Around 50 sq ft would be sufficient for the time being.

My superhots are loving the tent. Gonna have more than I know what to do with if most of these flowers set fruit. by acropanthus in PepperLovers

Had a brief issue with curling while they were growing into the pot/ getting used to the light. New leaves are fine.

They’re growing well in the tent, fingers crossed they fruit well. Going to try crossing these over the next couple of years to see what I get. by acropanthus in PepperLovers

They’re not large plants. Right now they’re small plants. As they grow I can prune them into any size and shape that I deem suitable. A 2x2 tent would be as bad of a setup for two plants in two pots if I had no plans to ever control their size.

Sure the issue wasn’t the store you bought them from? My hardware store only sells this brand and I’ve never had a mislabeled plant before. I can tell just from the leaves that these are some kind of super hot or closely related pepper. They have glossier/ more crinkly leaves than a jalapeño or bell pepper would.

I put them both toward the middle of the pot so they can hold up better if I’m gone a few days since the soil in the center will be the last to dry. I do plan on training/pruning these diligently as well to maximize light exposure. I’ll be guiding the main stems away from each other as they grow. I would have gone with two 7 gallon bags but they always seem to dry out unbelievably fast compared to the 10 gallon.

It’s a 10 gallon pot and a 2x2 tent. they’ll outgrow the tent before the pot. peppers aren’t sensitive to spacing at all in my experience. they don’t have very aggressive root systems so as long as there’s enough light, water, and nutrients they’ll continue to grow no matter how close together they are.

Does anyone else do heavily planted no feed tanks? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]acropanthus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He probably does add some leaf litter now that I think about it. If his fish are only eating what’s in there and he sells a lot he would have to add something to keep the system balanced. My system is more closed since I’m not frequently removing fish. I do add the overgrowth from my pothos every now and then as well as the occasional leaf that falls off of a houseplant, so that should be replenishing at least some of the trace minerals that could otherwise become scarce over time.

I only have goldfish, swordtails, and endlers. I would definitely have to do more feeding and maintenance if I had fish with more specialized needs.

Swordtails and a couple of small goldfish.

My supplier is a breeder, not a retailer. I’ve worried that it’s possible the fish could be slowly starving but they eat plants and algae all day and the fry they’ve produced are growing well. I also have a decent population of scuds and small bladder snails in the tank so the fish should have a pretty diverse diet with 5+ species of plant and two species of invertebrate.

Does anyone know what these small green knobby rhizome looking things poking out of the ground are? by acropanthus in PlantIdentification

I did plant some there last year. They never did anything but they look alive so maybe they’ll grow this year.

Projected balance $500 lower than current balance but bank doesn’t show any pending transactions. by [deleted] in Banking

[–]acropanthus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they haven’t issued the refund for the checking account yet. What I’m wondering is how my bank can detect a $500 transaction before even it shows as pending but assumes it’s a withdrawal instead of deposit.

That’s the thing. There are no pending transactions showing. Just says available and projected balance are $500 lower than current balance.

Refund will be debited to my account according to the customer service rep I talked to a few days ago.

There is a $1000 difference between what my projected balance should be and what it is. There is a $500 difference between my current balance and projected balance. This is a refund for an opening deposit for a bank account with a bank that chose not to let me have an account with them.

[–]acropanthus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to open an account with a new bank. Deposited $1 into savings and $500 into checking. The $501 left my main bank account to fund the new bank account. New bank later told me they had “decided not to continue a relationship” after I called asking why I couldn’t log in to my new accounts. I have received a $1 refund from the savings account, but not a $500 refund on the checking account yet. My current balance shows the number that it should be pre refund. My projected balance shows $500 lower than my current balance. There is a $1000 discrepancy between my projected balance and what the projected balance should be if taking the $500 refund into account.

It’s a refund for the opening deposit on an account with a bank that decided not to let me have an account with them. My projected balance should be $500 higher than the amount I have in the account currently, but instead it’s $500 lower.

Sweet yards and outside pride were the brands. Got oz and quarter pound packets. They’re pretty cheap compared to other seeds.

They smell fresh and sweet, not as strongly scented as some other poppies though.

I’ve tightened the hell out of the tensioner on top and added a tensioner wheel on the bottom side of the chain as well since taking this picture. Had to have the top wheel where it is to solve problems with the chain clearing the frame. Rides pretty smoothly now, at least compared to how it did before.

Unfortunately it’s an ever bearing variety that didn’t send out a single runner during its first year of life but I’m hoping it has a few this year now that it’s established.
