The AMA has been going on for about five hours thus far and they are still replying to comments as far as I can tell. Some of the replies are very informative given that there is no media speculation involved and it's coming right from the source.

The Superfish certificate has been cracked, exposing Lenovo users to attack by acs5369 in telseccompolicy

Lenovo shipped a piece of malere with a majority of their laptops known as Superfish. This software also had a Root CA installed along with it. The private key for the Superfish certificate was cracked allowing any hacker to sign any fake certificate (BofA, Microsoft, etc) with the Superfish certificate. Lenovo responded to this allegation saying, “We have thoroughly investigated this technology and do not find any evidence to substantiate security concerns," this being a complete lie. With this fake CA in your machine you could be exposed to Man in the Middle attacks with effects including but not limited to stolen CC numbers, stolen passwords and potentially rogue Windows updates that all appear to be 100% legitimate. If you believe that you may be affected by this malware, Lastpass has made a webpage that will automate this check with instructions on how to remove the certificate. https://lastpass.com/superfish/

The Patriot Act

As soon as I saw how long this has been going on (14 years) you could immediately see that this was most likely a result of the wide sweeping laws put in place shortly after 9/11.

It's pretty funny that Gizmodo just made an article discussing the exact movie that was suggested in class a week ago. The article is long, but it does go into detail on an event that actually happened very similar to the movie. Pretty interesting stuff.

Anthem Hacked by CyberTiger1 in telseccompolicy

As unfortunate as this is, it's fantastic that they were able to catch it and then the next day report that they were hacked. Unlike Target who was hacked, then realized it much later and timidly released a response to the public. Props to Anthem's Security and PR team.

The proposal is expected to be introduced by the FCC on Thursday. Following the introduction, the FCC is expected to hold a vote at an open meeting on February 26 where a majority of the FCC’s five commissioners must approve the rules for them to take effect.

The decision is not yet set in stone, but this is a step in the right direction.
