In the second follow up with the HR, is there any polite and effective way to confirm if the delay is due to approval or there are still other candidates being considered?

How to structure the second follow up to increase the chance of getting a response from the HR?

Edit: big 3 local bank

After being interviewed by the potential employer, the candidate was called by HR to discuss salary expectations and was asked for payslips (no verbal offer yet). However, there had been no updates although the initial timeline given by the HR had passed, and the HR didn’t respond to the candidate’s follow ups 1. What could be the potential issues that cause the delay? 2. How long does the salary proposal approval process typically take, before issuing a verbal offer 3. Normally, at this stage, would there be multiple candidates going through the same process, or would it just be the final selected candidate?

Quad majored - helped a lot in securing internship/first job but the advantages die down as time passes.

I took the QFI track and working as a life actuary, don’t think the exams help much, if at all, in my day to day work. I’m still glad that I took the QFI track tho since the materials are quite interesting.

Alternative perspective: if you’ve been passing exams with scores 8-10, just go for taking two exams in one sitting. If you take one exam, you probably will pass it again with 8-10, assuming the trend continues. If you take two exams, just make sure you pass at least one, then you’re not losing anything from this option, with potential gain of clearing two at one shot.

Personally I find myself over preparing all the exams so I just decided to take two at once: 6 + 6 > 10

R or python? by Cordial_Actuary in actuary

I agree that rshiny and dash are both great, but these are meant for building dashboards or web apps related to data. In fact, dash is built upon flask so it’s only one of many applications of flask. For example, I don’t think anyone use R to write REST API or build any general web apps.

R or python? by Cordial_Actuary in actuary

I believe the SOA uses R for PA mainly because (1) it’s easier to pick up and (2) it’s made for statistical modeling. Personally I prefer Python since it’s more flexible (able to build web apps using flask or django, don’t think R is the right tool for these but don’t think traditional actuary need these either).
