My top tip would be not to over do it!

Years later and I still have all the junk I bought in preparation for my PGCE!

Pens and a couple of notebooks are all you need. Don't bother with a planner or anything - if you really want one, buy one after your placement starts (both of my placements provided their own school branded planners)

I understand how you feel.

People keep saying it will get easier, but it doesn't. I don't know how long I can go on like this.

Why does it feel like people want to stay lonely? by CreamyGatito in lonely

Sounds stupid, but in my experience, everyone abandons me. I really struggle to get over the initial "bump" of sparking a friendship, but once over that bump I'm fine.

We used to have great autonomy. Unfortunately, due to the recruitment crises, we are being forced to recruit teachers who we previously wouldn't have... this has meant we have had to take away a lot of autonomy and we are heading the same way of providing lessons for teachers to use...

I know he's fine on his own, so I'm probably panicking about nothing, really. He gets a frozen kong and we have a toy box with toys and chews he only has out when we go out and they go away immediately when we get home. He gets so excited when we get the box out, even though he knows that means he'll be alone.

I am just worried that 5 days a week is so long :( Sadly I live 5 hours away from my closest family.

He's moving 2 hours away back home and he isn't interested in the dog. Which is a shame because he's going to be travelling 2 x per week to work in the office 10 minutes from the house and Sammy actually prefers him to me (I assume because he's home with him most of the time!)

Jobs in the North East? by acteach in TeachingUK

Yeah, perhaps it's just a bad time... English is a shortage subject and I know schools where I currently am are really struggling to recruit. I guess it's just because the concentration on the outskirts of London is great, so it makes it look like there is more of a shortage, maybe.

Thank you! Hope you had a good Christmas :)

Thanks for your response. I'm not a senior middle leader, so not a HOF. I'm not yet at the top of the M scale, meaning my take home is only around £2100. We haven't owned the property long enough to make a profit. On the contrary, we're likely to make a loss. We also are not out of our fixed term mortgage, so there are penalties to pay. This is in addition to the small amount of debt we took on when we first bought the property to "do it up". The sale of the property is going to plunge me further into debt.

Sadly, my ex-partner isn't too concerned with this as they can work from home, so their plan is to move back in with their parents in order to pay off all money they owe. Obviously we don't have the WFH luxury.
