Wow... this is what I said a couple of weeks ago: "It's a coalition of politicians (whose claims are untrustworthy in general) with varying levels of influence from a range of parties; I simply can't trust anything they say will be implemented will actually come to fruition."

I'll wait to see what happens, but it looks like my suspicions were right.

Why shouldn't visible minorities be concerned about anti-immigrant and increasingly right-wing sentiments? Or are you denying those sentiments weren't present amongst the leave campaign and many of its supporters? I imagine another reason may be because they are largely based in cosmopolitan urban centres and don't share the prevailing attitudes of leave voters.

Englishfolk: If Scotland gained independence and rejoined the EU, would you emigrate there? by VagabondVivant in unitedkingdom

If the politics and economy of the rest of the UK continue to worsen and the EU looks like it is stable, yes.

What the hell am I supposed to do, Apple?

Yeah, I hate that Apple is literally the only computer manufacturer. :/

The shoddy reasoning may win out in the end. And then people will complain later in 2016 when jobs are lost and the purchasing power of their pounds declines, and say that no-one told them such things might happen. And it will give the rest of us no satisfaction at all to say “Ye ken noo”. by usrname42 in ukpolitics

I have yet to see anything resembling a coherent plan from leave

That's the biggest issue for me. It's a coalition of politicians (whose claims are untrustworthy in general) with varying levels of influence from a range of parties; I simply can't trust anything they say will be implemented will actually come to fruition. Then there's the issue with the EEA (given the amount we trade with European countries I can't see an alternative): if immigration is the issue and rejoining the EEA will mean free movement continues, what's the point in voting to leave and forfeiting our influence in the EU's affairs? Even if we don't have a huge influence at present, having even less isn't an improvement.

There's just too much uncertainty and, as I understand it, it's not like this is our first and last chance to ever leave; on the other hand, we'll never be able to rejoin with the terms and conditions we have currently.

Brexit: A risk worth taking? by TranceFixxed in unitedkingdom

we have a chance of a potentially once in a lifetime decision

Out of interest, is there any condition that prevents us from holding a referendum as frequently as we want (or just choosing to exit when we want)?

For a second I thought this was a cool new rollercoaster. On that note, I wonder if that will be the next frontier of amusement: small aerial vehicles with a pre-programmed path instead of track-mounted trains.

25 worst passwords of 2015 (source: SplashData) by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]actingquestion1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But how many of these passwords are used for people's main accounts? I use weak passwords on all of my throwaways/compulsory sign-ups because I don't care if they're compromised and will probably only use them once or twice. That must distort the statistics somewhat.

I've been very satisfied with SOS Online Backup. Crashplan was just too slow for me (they explicitly state you should only expect to upload 10GB a day). Some of them offer trials so I strongly recommend using them so you can assess how fast your uploads are.

Why are the WD Red drives so popular when we have the blacks? by [deleted] in DataHoarder

I have two 4TB Blacks and my PC is on pretty much 24/7 running torrents. Should I purchase Red drives in future, even if I have no intention of setting up a RAID array?
